I went back to my original server to go ski jumping and get coins.

I discovered on that server, Ghallanda, I have a large stash of weapons. Very large.

Obviously. I cannot add Icy Burst to all because my ski jumping is not uber enough to allow me to get, in my estimation, 10,000 purple coins. My recipe 5 drop has been anywhere from 0 per 100(thank you House P Jack Frostbite) turned in to 6 per 100.

So, I am making a priority list based only on my preference.

VORPALS and Smiters - IMO, should only have FROST added to them. On a critical their head is chopped off or destroyed, so the Icy Burst effect would be wasted. CONS, on monsters immume to critical I guess the Icy Burst would work. I have no idea. I have NOT added an Icy Burst to a vorpal or smiter yet, and I don't plan to.

Paralyzers - I almost have to add it to paralyzers, I do not care of the plus on the weapon. I figure a paralyzed monster is better than one moving around hitting back. Why not add a little extra oomph to the damage. All my paralyzers have frost on them, the higher crit ranges have Icy Burst. I have one Keen great Crossbow of Puncturing, crit range 15-20, that I found in my inventory that I will be adding Icy Burst too.

+(1,2,3,4,5)s - Greater <insert monster> Bane. SOrt of a mini rule set here. Some greaters I add it to, Greater Evil Outsider Bane, some I don't, Greater Chaotic Outsider Bane(why do I have these weapons?). Greater Elemental Bane is iffy as is Greater Construct Bane. But I have added it.

+5s - Since the idea is to get to end game with your powerful characters, your powerful characters will more than likely be carrying some +5s. I add frost to all +5s and icy burst is then added by higher crit range priority. Most of my maces and Morningstars will NOT have icy burst on them. The clerics carry these and all my clerics are healers.

+5, ML 6 weapons. Twink gear for the low levels. What could be better than a +5 Icy Burst <insert weapon> for a 6th level character? The low level baddies are not immune to cold, rare instances, and I find that the bad guys go down quite quickly.

+4, ML 4 weapons. Twink gear for the low levels. With Vet Status in play, and that awesome starter gear I get from the warforged on top of the spire, I decided I would rather have a +4 Icy Burst. What could be better than a +4 Icy Burst <insert weapon> for a 4th level character?

I looked for keen, found a min lvl 4 keen rapier of righteousness.
Of course I only ever pulled 1 recipe 5.

It might still be nice to have icy burst on Vorpals. The vorpal effect only takes place when you roll a 20... and then this roll has to be confirmed. If you roll a crit (non-20) or your crit is not confirmed, you'll still have some extra damage via the Icy Burst.

No, under UM's base idea I still have to agree with him.

But, and this is the only exception I can think of to it, and it applies to vorpals only.
1. has a secondary property of maiming/enfeebling, or some such.
2. (and this is THE kicker) You/you party with someone that is doing such consistent stat damage, you are able to auto crit them in a very reasonable time frame. At this point, burst makes decent sense to have.
3. Optional: it is a battle or dwarven axe. The x3 crit works well for "burst" damage. Better than x2 of swords.

For low level gear - Icy Burst goes on high-crit weaponry, preferably ones with another elemental damage and pure good. The only exception is Heavy Picks - which I've added Icy to a few.

High levels - mostly maladroit weapons and heavy picks.

+2 keen weapons lvl 4 (like rapier, scimmy, kopesh, heavy pick)
+2 keen of rightousness lvl 6
+2 keen of maiming (for x3, x4 weapons)

imo the effect is best for twinking. still works in gianthold though...

I put it on lowbie items, stat damagers, greater ele banes, monk handwraps, and then whatever remaining non named dps gear.

Fire Burst Khopesh of Righteousness, rr ml4

Still using it at lvl 8, still leading kill counts... on a wizard

[One person led in kill count using a carnifex during a run of Tear, but somehow he was slacking towards the end and stopped getting as many kills :D]

I think adding the burst effect is most appropriate or twink gear and good greater banes (elemental, dragon...). Not worth taking a crappy item and upgrading it, IMO

Wow you're unlucky with your 5/20 rolls ... I've handed in less than 100 purples and have been able to put icy Burst on almost all my wraps and still have 2 or so left over.

I guess I put frost on everything and Icy Burst on anything that can gain critical easily, weighted, paralysers and stat damagers. But then on banishing, smiting, disruption, destruction & other burst weapons. But with Stunning Fist it makes it a little bit juicier at times :)

Must depend on how readily you get the Icy Burst.

Maybe it's just me that prefers to save it for Velah beaters, like a +1 Axiomatic Burst Falchion of Greater Dragon Bane.

That's now a weapon that's superior to Lightning 2 against Epic Velah.

I've found some of the bet things to put icy burst on are greater banes that affect fire type creatures.
Greater Gaint banes look out fire giants

Greater Ooze banes Kicks butt on living spells and icyburst on ever bright wpns so u can say good bye to muck and muck doom

Greater Elemental Banes nice dps on fire eles , Ive stacked this on some flaming or shocking burst ele banes and they rock on earths too

Greater Dragon banes for Epic Velah or Tor farming

Ive been adding it to all my ele bursting greater vermin and animal bane since those two classes are immune to holy or alignment based stuff and it gives better dps for epic vairants of these we will be seeing.

and of Course the biggie is Weighted items and paralyzers for auto crits if you have a blunt stunning blow build throw this on as many of ur wpns as u can so when u stun then u can go to town

I did break down and throw some on my Vorps since some days the 20 roll gods ignore me!

Greater Evil outsider banes great for lots of stuff in the Vale works on limited stuff in Amrath like teiflings, and its great on Reavers and Renders

I also threw it on my collection of lvl 4 to use holy wpns and a few nice race restricted lower lvls ones.

I wish more ppl would take advantage of this as its extra dps and ive grped with several other tunes in guild who farmed and frosted stuff and it helps the whole grp overall if everyones putting out extra dps

I also threw it on most of my holy greater banes like elf dwarf and human since they are not cold immune

Add it to metaline of pure good weapons for ghetto green steel to use while leveling.
