Just a quick thing, to those of you that put up LFM's and if someone applies and you are not going to take them please for the love of god hit the decline button, nothing worse having to wait to know if you make a group.

And if you get a tell asking if you are going to accept or decline have the common courtesy to at least reply or click the accept or decline button, it makes it hard then for players to decide if they should try to join another group while waiting for a response from the first group.

Being polite to your fellow players does not cost anything and would be greatly appreciated.

I agree 100%

You dont owe it to me to take me into your group, but you cant deny that the polite/respectful thing to do would be to decline a person you arent interested in so that they can continue to look for a quest to run. Even a "hey, we are noobs who need 2 clerics, so we arent going to take your tank" tell would be great....but all I am asking for is a quick decline to stop wasting my time.

I was nice enough to accept your LFM that you posted publicly with my class and level highlighted in it.....you can give mutual respect without it taking too much of your time.

Agreed. I went for a Xorian Cipher LFM last night with my sorc and I had a quick tell saying they were looking for Int. I was not offended in the least and was happy to at least be able to start looking for other groups without wondering why I was being left hanging on the XC request.

This is arguable.

If you're looking for a certain class and you get a join request from another class (most often bard for me). I'll hold that person while looking for a bard. If I get a class I'm looking for then I'll decline the request by filling party. If I can't seem to find anyone in a couple of minutes I'll take the join request.

Holding it indefinitely with absolutely no plan of accepting is definitely not cool though.

I'm sorry but you just said that you're doing what they're complaining about... at the very least you can send the person a tell saying you're still looking for a certain class and are going to give it a couple more minutes. It's not fair of you to let them sit around for a few minutes while you hold out for something better.

Who has time to send those kind of tells? Typically if I have someone "on hold" it is multiple people on hold and I'm holding off because I'm seeing what classes guildies etc. are switching around to. By the time I type up individualized tells (hopefully) I would have answers for all of you anyway.

But the point I am making is that they have ALL classes advertised, I am not going to try and join a group if they are not asking for my class, but when they have all classes advertised and then go silent thats the problem.

I probably would have posted to guild chat about what I wanted to run and see who was going to switch characters and such to run that with me before putting up the lfm to fill with non-guildies. Even barring that it really doesn't take that much time to send a quick tell.

My guild isn't that big, but it always takes a minimum 5 minutes for folks to check timers etc and find someone to run with. Why wouldn't I throw the LFM up (easier for them and for me) so that, when they are all done, I can accept what I need and be ready to go?

No offense, but if you are too impatient to wait that 5 minutes 1) you are my kind of people cause I'm the same way :D but 2) if you feel it is a crime against you and I should send you a tell to soothe your feelings, give me a freaking break and get over yourself. I have better things to do than send polite little nonsensical whisperings to every tom,****,andjane hitting the LFM.

I try my best to not leave people hanging, as it can be annoying. A lot of times I try to put in the LFM that it might be a few minutes, but there's not always room in the description. However here's some of the things that could be going on while you're waiting.

-Guildees checking characters
-I'm clearing the pre quest, i.e. DQ1 while forming the group
-I'm afk for a minute or two (and not more than that)
-I'm dealing with the dozen people firing me tells
-I'm trying to figure out what classes are coming and not
-I'm MyDDOing you

There's a middle ground here. If I leave you hanging for 5 minutes, its likely one of the reasons above. I'm not likely to leave anyone hanging much more than that. If I can send a tell, I will. If there's too much going on I can't.

If someone is keeping people on hold for more than 5 min, I always assume I'm not getting in group and go elsewhere.

Now we have to come to the agreement on how long is too long to wait for an accept?

One minute? 2? 5?

I too may wait to see who joins...hell sometimes I put the LFM and then go AFK...like setting a trap and seeing what ya catch.

Additionally, at what point does a glance become a look, and a look becomes a stare?

And how would you know if they were staring at you UNLESS you were staring at them!

In all seriousness, send a tell if you feel the wait is too long.

I work it from the reverse angle:

If I ping your LFM, I'll give you 15-30 secs to accept.

Then I ping the next LFM I'm interested in.

You snooze you lose.

Likewise, I've never had anyone keep me on hold for more than a minute because they're wasting my time, if they feel the need to sit around and go afk or wait for their guildies after they post the lfm rather than prior to posting it, it's not worth my time, especially if I have xp pots running for my non capped toons. When I do guild runs the guild gets into a group first then we put up an lfm and get other people to join that way no guildie is left out and no prospective player is left hanging.
