Try plugging it into the Video Jack instead of the RS-232 jack.
THere are only 3 different jacks PC's use.
15 Pin VGA.
DVI
HDMI
Unless its a really new PC, you probably don't have HDMI. That leaves DVI or VGA.
VGA is often confused for RS-232. the shape of the connections are exactly the same, just a different pin configuration.

so did mine, it in a drawer at home. I was a little nervous about brinig it in ( on a whim while brushing my teeth before work) so i didn't really plan it all out very well. Maybe now i can join caffiene, as it was not strategically savvy!

Older Apple monitor had a different pin config as well. I still have ran into some monitor with RGB connections too,

I don't know where you work, but if one of my users brought in their home PC and tried to plug it into our network (sorry I'm an IT Tech) I'd either have to kill 'em or I'd have to play DDO with them, depending on whether my boss is sick or not ;)
