OK So I took Spell Focus: Conjuration at Lvl1 Sorcerer, and planned to swap it at lvl8 before lvl'ing up to 9 to Spell Focus: Illusion because I read that costs go up every 4 levels, and I am taking Phantasmal Killer at lvl9 and would like to try it out and see if I like it.

HOWEVER

I did Lockania's Quest all ready and have my Free Feat Swap, and I just read that you HAVE to use that the first time you make a Feat Swap - wish I'd known that. I was going to ultimately swap this out at the end when I decided what type of Caster I enjoyed playing the most - as I am balancing out my spells as this is the first time I made a caster. I was also going to take the Spell Penetration line, but if at end game I prefer being a nuker, I will ultimately want to get rid of one or both and put in a Spell Focus line instead.

So what I would really like to know is how much it is going to cost me to swap feats at various levels? I HAVE to lvl to 9 in about one quests time due to lvl banking.

I've searched the forums and have seen no actual post that lists this. I can't find a thread that lists the prices of how much it costs to swap feats out per level. Closest I have seen was someone jokingly mentioning to swap 5 feats at once would cost a total of 50k plat.

So can anyone give me a list, or indeed point me to a thread with it in please?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

FYI

Ultimately I wanted to have these Feats in order of level taken/swapped

Human Bonus: Force of Personality
Toughness or Empower (depending on what I felt I needed more) [right now it is Spell Focus: Conjuration] probably will want TOUGHNESS
Maximise
Extend
Heigthen
Spell Pen
Spell Focus xxx (probably Evocation)
Greater Spell Penetration or "Greater Spell Focus xxx" depending on how I preferred to play my caster

If it helps I have Niacs, Firewall, and Acid Blast right now. I mainly use Firewall (quel suprise!) but Niacs is still handy for single mobs and fire based creatures, and acid blast for oozes. At level 9 I am taking Scorching Ray (so Niacs will be used even less) Displacement, and Phantasmal Killer. I have an illusion focus weapon I have banked to use but the illusion focus FEAT would help out even more.

What do you recommend I do?

I can't help you with the gold costs as I don't swap feats very often.
Aside from the gold though, you'll need a Siberys Dragonshard of increasing quality as you level higher.
Level 01-04 = Flawed (equivalent 100 Fragments)
Level 05-08 = Imperfect (equivalent 1000 Fragments)
Level 09-12 = Regular (equivalent 10,000 Fragments)
Level 13-16 = Exceptional (equivalent 100,000 Fragments)
Level 17-20 = Flawless (equivalent 1,000,000 Fragments)

Take note of the 3 day cooldown per feat-swap.

By the way, I would personally go for Necromancy focus and plan for the long term when you get Finger of Death.
Phantasmal Killer requires 2 saves, Will and then Fortitude, so when you pick up FoD it really takes the back seat.

Edit:
Regarding the gold costs I remembered this page in my list of DDO bookmarks, here you go http://ddowiki.com/page/Fred

ohhh sweet.

you lifesaver.

thank you very much indeed. +rep

ultimately I am indeed going to take Finger of Death and get rid of Phantasmal Killer. Also Wail of the Banshee, so Necromancy Focus or Evocation Focus is what I will probably have to work out later on. FoD isn't until Lvl14 though so taking Necromancy right now may be a waste of a feat for 5 levels.

Thank you for the thread. Those are some crazy prices. lol

I think I may just take TOUGHNESS, and then once I get to lvl 14 I should have worked out if I prefer nuking or "whatever the other one is called", and decide whether to go Spell Penetration or Evocation Focus.

Since Kaervas answered your question.....
Just wanted to chime in that most folks dont take spell focus lines until much later in game when you need that extra dc to your spells to get them to land. And getting them to land generally refers to phantasmal killer, finger of death, and enchantment type spells (otto's sphere of dancing and irresistable dance, suggestion/domination). Early on you really don't need those, I normally don't equip a spell focus item until I am using those spells. Lower levels casters generally focus on maximizing your damage as that is the type of spells you are doing, and in your case you say you are using those spells (niacs acid blast and firewall) so folks take maximize/empower/extend. If a monster makes a save from niacs its generally their reflex save rather than a save based on your dc, if that make's it clearer?
I would definitely recommend toughness, as a caster you get very little hp per level, so you need every lil bit of assistance. Taking toughness not only gives you the hp's from the feat itself, but also opens up additional enhancement lines (1 to 2 depending on your race/class) that can add 20-50 hp depending on what is available to you.

Mmm... you could get mileage out of the necromancy focus early on even.

Stuff that it works for that are in game includes Blindness, Bestow Curse, Command/Halt Undead as well as Symbol of Pain iirc.

Each of them is useful in its own way, but in truth a wizard usually gets more use out of those than a sorc.

Necromancy focus and spell penetration are going to help alot with your PK/FOD and wail. I have both of those maxed on my wizard.

As far as plat cost on feat swaps, I don't know about lower levels but I did swap a feat out at level 20 and it cost me 80kpp plus the dragonshard (120points in the store) Definitely try to get those swaps in earlier if you wanna save some plat! :o

PK is illusion, not necro. Necro helps wail and FoD, but once you get the napkin, you'll need 2 feats for 1 DC, which is both hard to fit in (need to sacrifice a spell pen or a mental toughness) and not too worth it.

Either way, I prefer enchantment, as mass hold seems to be much more efficient than wail. Its effectively an insta kill, and the save chance is much lower.
