View Full Version : I would like to feel some more MASSIVE in this MMO!

Well but how to do that?
Yes I do know this is a party dungeon crawler game...but even all wilderness areas are party only wich makes it feel like a lobby based multiplayer game...and not a mmo.
So what could be done against this?
I do NOT ask to make wilderness areas open for all and non instanced as this would cause WAY too many problems in my opinion...neither do I want more people in the dungeons since that would ruin the balance and the fun part of the dungeon crawling I guess...
But what do you want now?
Well I would like to see something like a big demon battlefield...imagine a wilderness area that is designed for bigger scale battles against the demons! Massive and huge portals to the other planes, creating a constant flow of reincorcements on the side of the demons. And since a normal group or raid party wouldnt be enough...you need every man (or woman) that you can get in there. Of course you are still able to go in there partied up..but its a more open area just like the normal city areas...maybe you face a battlefield 1, 2 and 3...but not 500 parties being in 500 just for them instanced regions
And what are we supposed to do there? Just endlessly kill monsters in big groups?
Well that would be partially up to Turbine I guess! But my idea would be for example this big battlefield with lots of monsters...on 1 side you have your personal slayer award...and on the other side the whole server gets rewards if you fend off enough monsters. Maybe the Silver flame could hand out some death resistant 1 hour buffs for everyone once enough monsters are beaten...or something like...when enough monsters are slain a message pops up and for the next few hours people would be able to enter a special raid dungeon that only opens if you kill 100.000 monsters server wide. Stuff like that! Also an idea would be to finally make some use of the siege weapons like in house D ;o just a little hint...theres tons of things you could implement and do there!
So what does everyone think about this? And please, do not give a bad rating because youre all like "It would lag so it sucks"because some people do play without lag and if well programmed this shouldnt run worse then most other parts of the game!
That is all for today~
Cheers~

Umm...there is a demon battlefield...it's called Shavarath, and it's for levels 17 - 20. You do fight portals that spew forth demons and such...it's called Part 1 of the Shroud Raid.
Have you see the new Velah? She IS massive.
Yeah...

They would have to make entirely new AI because yes, it would lag sucktastically. That number of mobs all talking back and forth.. yeah, won't work with the current system.
They DID prove, however, they could put in a "marketplace" (and you know how many different textures that has between buildings AND players) throw in 8 really powerful creatures, and let all mixes of players go to town without much of any lag. They did this with the devil invasion.
So a battlefield would have minimal textures compared to marketplace, but to have massive numbers of mobs.... I don't think could happen as things stand. Unless they made a new hord type. 1 that locks in on one character and goes untilt he creature is dead, does not bounce agro, does not talk to other mobs. Then, in that instance, it could be done I have a feeling. The semephore flags won't be sent out so tremendously.
Could be interesting... the death of the tent was a fun night.
Emm.. maybe.... 8 dragons? :)

and ... um ... lag?
if it can't cope now with a very contained VOD environment such a picture you create would not work.
admiring the art work in weapons shipment today i would like to see some more of that sort of effect if not too laggy. i wonder if there are possibly some tricks of the eye/perceptions too that can give a feeling of massiveness.
i can relate a little to what you mean in books i think. so if i read Dune i am impressed by the immensity of the universe it creates - whereas other sci-fi just doesn't seem to bring up the same sense of hugeness.
i wonder though if we just adapt. like the move avatar. so 30mins in and all sense of 3Dness was lost for me. a friend said she maintained it by deliberately taking off her glasses from time to time. i wonder if there is a trick like that to maintain a massiveness to the game (and of course it would annoy a lot of people, and everyone would ask it to be fixed... )

Sheherazade - I LOVE your name. It is one of my favorite compositions by Ravel.
However I don't like the idea of wanting this to be like other MMOs.

IMO here is what it will take, I'm highly doubting we would ever see this in this game, but if we did awesome.
Think LOTRO's landscape and then put all the DDO's instance quests throughout that. One day we log in and bam "*** just happened here?"/
Some quests in cities, some quests in caves and the country side between towns. Let the imagination go from there. IMO best of both worlds.
Perhaps a typical crafting system, to give the landscape something to do other then killing along the way, the killing would be to get to the resources. Perhaps a housing system to fill the country/cities.

A fairly good idea, but impractical with the current game engine and server limitations.

I'm still wondering why that quickfoot/drow area has no quests in it .. that explorer area near the twelve .. *brain fart* you know the one.
Id love to see a few there.

Searing Heights, and according to the Devs, some quests ARE coming for that area. As a matter of fact they have already added a gate you can't enter to it.

I'm just the opposite. I like the "massively" part to be confined to the cities and the LFG player pool. Adding areas where dozens and dozens of people are all fighting just lends to the feeling that my character is Would-Be Hero #48788.24 in the world of heroes, whose swords wouldn't be missed if he hung them up and took up forestry. I like a world concept in which adventurers are rare birds, and that's a hard concept to provide for hundreds of thousands of users simultaneously while still providing a robust multiplayer experience.
I like playing like a lone ranger. I also like playing like a power ranger. I wouldn't want to play like an Army Ranger. I can be a unit in other games.

Great then we can add rare camping, and kill stealing as well. No thanks, the DDO mechanic of instances is far superior to fun gameplay.
and rendering the environment/players/mobs......just think of the dps lag that would be prevalent in there
If 12 ppl can generate enough dps in Shroud to lag almost to a standstill.....think what 100's could do in a wide open area all beating on mobs......the zone would be a wasteland, because the lag would be so bad.
Also, never understood the thinking behind coming into a game and wanting to make it just exactly like all the other games....play and enjoy it for it's differences, don't try to make it conform to the others.
I also don't get the fascination with walking around, just to be walking around....played EQ/EQ2 for years and I HATED having to walk to the different areas, in the end I played mostly wizards just so I could port around as the walking from point A to point B was SUCKTASTIC.

I dont think people understand the OP at all ....
I agree with him
as someone who played COH/V and has been around since pretty much launch this game is missing the danger around every corner feel of DnD.
They need instance based attacks where or NON safe areas.
Not just adventure areas with weak as hell bosses but a 12 man area like sub T with purple named bosses ...
random purple named bosses in a serious quazi hell related dungeon where you can go down but you cannot go back up (without D door) and rare purple monsters with uber chests (maybe dropping epic tokens)
or have MMO standards kept up with a once every couple hours have a big purple named nasty drop down and attack the houses .... House D seems almost preped for that kind of change to happen soon ... the 12 has lots of space for a purple named boss to randomly appear killing all who get to close.

that would be cool

anyone else remember the free for all before mod 9?
beholders in the bars!!!! free for all beat downs!
(though personally i think the next big events going to be house D, If you talk to the NPCs their gearing up for something... and the statement that only something from the sky could get in....)
