View Full Version : Mid-High Level Weapons?

Not being rich, I'm wondering what the minimal number of weapons are that I should look to acquire for questing between lvl 9 until I get greensteel scimitars (probably 20 ;-). The goal being that I want to be able to kill every mob that I fight.
As I'll need to prioritize purchases, I'd appreciate if you could comment on what the particular weapon is used for. For example, if it's used on a single mob in a single quest, then I might just skip the quest until I've bought other higher use weapons.
If this question has been answered before, unfortunately I haven't been able to find it. [You'd think that it'd be on a wiki or guide somewhere...]
I'm a LG FvS/Monk Splash.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Teran

My advice, scimitar of smiting for times when there are orange named robots around, a metalline of pure good weapon(hoping you're lawful good since you are monk splash) for most others... and now you can put icy burst on it with the recipes 3,4, and 5. Vorpal scimitar (not absolutely required but a good weapon to have for trash mobs in shroud and several others, roll a 20 and most likely their heads will roll if they're not immune to instakill) Now the metalline of pure good the plus 1 version is lvl 6. Since you can put icy burst on the metalline of pure good if you can go about doing that, I'd say that's it for the weapons that work well in most situations. Only other two I'd recommend is a paralyzer and a fire burst/shocking burst/icy burst weapon, for the times when there are cold/fire sensitive baddies I have a shocking burst of pure good that I use for my fvs at lower lvls, although now that I can put icy burst I am probably gonna just take a lvl 6 metalline, put icy burst on it and use that till I can use GS. The paralyzer is very nice on trash mobs as they keep them from hitting you, indispensable in Madstone crater and some of the other quests in Gianthold, it starts at lvl 10 unless you get a race required one, but they are so worth it in making sure things don't get to hit you back.

I prefer shock weapons above all others, simply because it's resisted so much less than other types. Acid is decent too.
Paralyzer, Vorpal, Smiter, Disrupter...if you were using piercing weapons, I'd say Banishers too, but slashing weapons don't come like that.
My current primary weapons are a +5 shocking burst icy burst of pure good, and a +5 holy frost of righteousness. I keep all kinds of weapons around for special circumstances, however.
2 Banishers
2 Disrupters
2 Paralyzers
1 Smiter
1 Shocking Burst Frost of Greater Aberration Bane (F'ing beholders...)
2 Muckbanes (Thinking of banking these, I haven't actually used them in months)
2 Casting weapons (Skiver, and Superior Potency VI)
1 Shock Returning Thrower of Precision
+5 acid frost of pure good (for neutrals where the holy one won't work)

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'm wondering what I should aim to buy over the next few levels. This is what I use today (all scimitars unless noted):
+1 Keen of Pure Good / +1 Holy of righteousness. Main weapons against evil mobs.
+1 Shocking Burst of Pure Good / +1 Keen of Pure Good. Main Weapons against Neutral mobs.
2x Muckbane. Oozes.
2x +1 Metalline. In case there's something I can't hit (today that's probably constructs, but I know that more are coming as I level).
+1 Ghost Touch Staff of Greater Undead Bane (lucked out and got this on a drop). For Skeles, Ghosts, Shades, etc.
+1 Mace of Greater Elemental Bane / +1 Vicious of Pure Good. For Elementals.
For level 10 I managed to buy a Paralyzer which I'll use (probably use it as the second weapon in my Evil and Neutal sets, getting rid of the Keen of Pure Good).
Based upon the responses, I think that my next purchases are likely (a) metalline of Pure Good, and (b) either a smiting weapon or a Greater Construct Bane. If I can get vorpals as well then great, but I'm not holding my breath in seeing one for a good price / one dropping.
If you'd recommend something different, then I'd appreciate your advice. :)
Thanks,
Teran

Ah yes. The ones I listed are just the ones I carry all the time.
In the bank:
+1 anarchic icy burst silver of pure good (harry beater, and also effective against the High Priest of Vol in Litany)
+3 holy of greater construct bane (portal beater)
+2 icy burst of greater construct bane (also portal beater, I'm keeping my eye out for something with a more useful prefix)
+2 holy burst frost heavy crossbow of pure good
+2 holy frost of 5% weighted
+1 wounding frost of puncturing
A metalline weapon by itself is...just not terribly useful, to be honest. The number of monsters which are vulnerable -just- to metal...and which you wouldn't just throw down a blade barrier (which absolutely nothing has resistance to) is pretty small.
Iron golems, most vampires, mindflayers, eladrin, fire giant mages with stoneskin...these are about the only things where metalline by itself is useful. For the really annoying enemies (demons, devils mostly) you need /Good on there as well.
