Zergers that are gimped are liabilities. Please let us knock this gimp out so we dont have to heal him. I get tired of soloing this quest and then losing track of the the dude and next thing i know i fail.

After the nerf to Air Elementals, there is no need to make the ending any easier.
The friendly NPC in question has enormous hitpoints, and keeping him safe has little difficulty at all.

I have never seen that NPC in danger, lot alone die.
He can definitely take care of himself. On the off chance that he gets in trouble, just toss him a heal or hit him with a displace/protection from elements.

By chance is the one complaining using a melee character with gimpy DPS?
The only way that guy can get smacked down hard is if you let him pull most of the aggro and KEEP IT.
I can solo with absolute ease with just a few spells... Mass Suggestion on the mobs and a displace on him. Issue solved. Sit back and watch the fireworks, finger the casters let the charmed elementals make paste out of the regular gnolls and charm the two orthons to speed up the beatdown of the red name at the end. When finished with them give them the finger. Easy, really really REALLY easy.
Back some time ago we tried buffing him to the max and letting him solo the rest of the dungeon. He was pretty slow at it but got it done eventually. (Buffs did have to be recast though)

Its pretty much impossible for him to die... How bad was your party that the NPC took 100% of the agro and no one in your party could manage to help fight or to heal mr 10,000hp npc?

In case you didn't know, even if the NPC dies, you can still fight the end boss and get the final chest.

I want you to recreate this for me....I really need to see how this happened?
He only moves on when each area is clear so how did he zerg off ahead to the point you couldn't keep up?
Portals being in place and so on.

He did say he was running it solo.

The NPC can die? Really?
Solo'd so it does not need fixing.
The DPS gods cry for OP.

Buy a Cleric Hireling and tell it to heal him every few minutes.

I've had him jump off the cliff before going after random gnolls who went off the cliff and die. Sad but true. I tried to get down there but I was too late, as he got caught in a gnoll archer shooting gallery.
Other than that, never failed it due to Paetus dying.
