I am trying to work on making a FvS build that is an affective trapsmith, along with the ability to range enemies.

I know its an odd combo, but I would like to have the rogue skills in order to make duo-ing quests with my boyfriend more plausible. In our current builds we are a bard(me) and rogue/fighter/ranger(him). He does the DPS and takes care of traps while I take on the role of healer/caster/bard. We would still like the major bases covered in our next reincarnation so while he is doing the barb/fighter role I would still like to take on the healer with a bit of rogue mixed in. Just so you can understand why I am going for such an odd build.

My major hopes with the build is that I can take on traps (even if it takes a few tries to get it done), do decent ranged damage, and heal. I would be caring about 75% buff and heal spells with a few damage spells tossed in.

This is a rough draft of the build and any suggestions would be awesome! I've never built a FvS so this was a bit of an experiment. At one point the builder put in a Monk Feat, which I have no idea why, so just ignore it. XD This build is without equipment obviously. I would have +6 to all major stats and SP items etc. But, I want to get the main structure of the build up and running first before planning out my gear.

That ranger lvl doesnt give you much at all. I would just go FvS18/Rog2 ... this gives you evasion and the opportunity for better rogue skills. In fact, my personal opinion is that a Clr18/Rog2 would be better for a duo group as youll have more flexibility with spells and may not need as many SP to keep entire groups up. I also advocate that players try Cleric before FvS to get a handle on the various spells available to the classes. Just a thought.

Regardless if you go FvS or Clr, I would pretty much forget about the bow. Ranged combat doesnt mix well with casting due to combat animations impeding spellcasting at times (plus youll want your hands free for potency/lore/power/etc. items. You could take the Silver Flame enhancement line and still use a bow if necessary, but youll quickly see how much more effective a nice hold person or greater command would be in place of pew pewing with the bow.

I looked over it quickly... i would never play something like this but...

Drop Mental Thoughness Feats and pick up something better you will have over 2000 spells points anyways.
Keep In Mind you get wings at level 17.

If your really stuck on rangeing... 17/2/1 maybe better.

Ranged combat is going to be a let down with this build.

Max Emp Quicken Blade Barriers for the win!

The 18/1/1 blend is perfect on Rangers and Rogues because those classes get evasion at level 9, and so don't benefit as much from a second level in anything.

The 18/1/1 doesn't seem very useful on an FvS. 1 rogue only gets you trap skills and d6+3 SA. 1 Ranger gets you... Favored Enemy and Bow strength (for a 12 STR toon). IMO you'd be much happier dropping Ranger and going with 18 FvS/2 rogue, and taking advantage of the survivability from evasion.

14 Wisdom will leave your offensive casting very weak; you may as well drop it to 10 and pump Str and Con, since a 12 STR archer will be incredibly short on DPS. (A 14 Str archer won't be much better, but it is an improvement!)

All in all, I don't quite understand the choice to take 18 levels in FvS when you are spending most of your stat points and energy on archery and traps. You could go 13rog/6rang/1barb, 12Fvs/6Rang/2Rog, or any of a number of other possibilities and be better at your desired goals!

I have played a cleric before, and I loved it, but the whole idea is to eventually play every class once on my TR toon. So, next is favored soul.

I have been thinking of losing the ranged portion and going melee with it. I didn't want to take too many levels of another class though because then you lose out on spells you would need by end game in the healing department.

If I took two levels of rogue instead of one, what would the benefits be?

What sort of stats should I be looking at? Should I put more into wisdom for those few offensive spells I would have? Or just go heal bot and pump everything into Str, Int, and Dex?

Original: I thought about dropping mental toughness too. I think I will. What do you think I should take instead?
Ghetto: Points taken. You really made some good suggestions. I had forgotten that sometimes while using a crossbow with my bard it always bugged me that it took longer to cast a spell. Which could prove annoying.
Gava: I like the idea of the 12/6/2 build. I am going to check it out and see what my spells would look like.

Well 2 levels of rogue over 1 will give you evasion, thats the most important factor there. Of course your dex (reflex save) needs to be high enough to make use of it. plus youll get access to the rogue dex I enhancement.

FvS builds can be a little complex at first. Stats are highly dependent on race/function of the build. The juggling between wis/cha stats can be tricky but most people start with 12 cha, then eat a +2 tome and use a +6 item, maybe they get a rank or two of cha enhancements for good measure.

Wis stat depends on the role of the build. Melees generally dump this stat or keep it low (like 12). Casters max it out (17 or 18) and put points here during lvl ups.

Dex is the same situation. Melees that plan on TWF usually start at 15, then eat a +2 tome at lvl 7 for 17 and access to the rest of the TWF feats.

For Str, melees start at 14-16 and put points here during lvl ups.

As a TR melee drow FvS you could go:

Str 14
Dex 15
Con 14
Int 12
Wis 12
Cha 12

Edit: The more I think about it, a melee might want to drop Wis entirely and put those points into Str as youll get pretty good saves from FvS levels.

Theres some wiggle room between Con/Int/Wis there. Im not sure if this will give you enough skill points to max rogue skills. Shortswords would be effective for a drow FvS, although not quite as effective as elf with scimitars. Though drow shortsword user wont need OTWF or suffer the to hit penalty. Something to consider.

Personally I love offensive casting FvS's, theyre freaking ridiculously powerful. However, trying to be a caster and rogue will be tight when it comes to your wisdom. On mine i pretty much dumped int and kept dex real low ... like 12 (pure FvS) in order to max wis.

As a TR caster drow FvS you could do something like:

Str 13
Dex 12
Con 12
Int 12
Wis 17
Cha 12

A 13 str plus items will give you enough punch to still finish most mobs off when you want to save a few SP, or you can dump Str to 10 or 11 and add some to Dex/Con or Int.

Hope these suggestions help you.

Edit: As an FYI if you go 12/6/2 FvS you will have to choose between blade barrier and heal. Tough choice IMO.
