Wohoo Got me a Carnifex...now what

Well I am a level 8 pure fighter WF THW. I tend to like Great Axes. Currently running with a +1 GA of ethereal bane, +2 Flaming GA of Pure Good, +3 Maul of Pure Good, Muck Bane, and just got me a Carnifex on my first run ever of Delera's. I know most say to grab Voice, but it is guarunteed and some say carni is rare so I grabbed carni.

I am assuming I need to use carni as my default weapon correct? Should I keep all the others or can I get rid of some of them?

Also, how long should carni be my main weapon?

Carnifex's benefits come from it's crit range. On targets that are crit-able, it is most likely your highest DPS weapon. (Use your PG Maul on stuff like Skeletons.) I don't know the comparison between a Carnifex and a +2 Flaming GA of Pure Good. I imagine they are fairly close.

Also: Get your voice of the master as soon as possible.. that 5% xp adds up quickly.

You chose correctly...you can always go back and get the voice next time, its always there.

Carn is a great weapon, massive crit range. For anything not crit immune you will do some insane damage numbers. I've really enjoyed it on my current fighter. Some other weapons will start to outstrip it as you level, but its BtA so your next melee will LOVE it as well.

I hope you have Power Attack. If not, pick it up at level 9. And add the power attack enhancements that you get as a warforged. Then you'll really be rockin with Carnifex.

I tend to use it until i have problems hitting or a lot of mobs gain dr, still nice to bust that thing out in gianthold

Carnifex is now your soul mate. Use it, love it, until you make some GS. It is the best Greataxe your gona get vrs mobs that have no dr/fortification.

On a related note, does anyone know what the crit range of Carnifex becomes with the improved crit feat? I'm guessing 15-20...

The Base crit range is 19-20, but it's also Keen making it 17-20.

Improved Crit doesn't improve on Keen...

It's default crit range is 19-20, a greataxe is 20. It starts off with double the critrate of a great axe, then gets keen thrown on top of it. It's effectively double-keen.

Grabbed one on my third run through. First run grabbed a Golden Cartouche, second run grabbed the Voice, then third run (getting guildies through it) decided to pick it up since I didn't need anything else that was offered. :p

After I don't know how many runs through, I finally got one last night. I was also presented with the linen gloves and the Devotion Handwraps... grrr, had never had the handwraps listed before either and now both together. Oh well.... My new WF fighter is very happy.

Unless the compendium is wrong (entirely possible knowing Turbine) the base damage is the same as a normal +2 Greataxe. The Durability and Hardness are higher though (+10 and +1 respectively).

Too bad you can't throw Icy Burst on it with the winter recipes...

Just posting to say Carnifex is awesome, and I did the same thing on my new toons first Deleras run - took Carnifex and the Voice on the next run.

Also, just want to say I bought a Maelstrom on the AH for 60k GOLD. Another awesome piece of kit for crushing the heads of kobolds.

You were lucky to get it after 13 runs.. I've been playing for 3 years now and I got my first ever Carnifex 2 weeks ago :P
