View Full Version : Laggiest VoD ever!

Maelstrom hosted VoD. Everything was going fine, we were having some laughs, discussing game mechanics etc. So we send our trusty ranger/rogue to disable the traps. Disable. Yeah, right. He fails all the traps, so we laugh at him for a bit, but no big deal. But, all the trap boxes keep on exploding. Not dealing damage. Just the exploding graphic.
Now, here comes the lag monster. At first, we lag a bit. Then a lot. Then, even the devils start lagging. Later, even Suulomades himself lags out!
That design doesn't work. And lag is not fixed at all.
Anyway, it sure was fun :)

Ha ha ha. That is hilarious and unfortunate!
There is the Theory of the Moebius, a twist in the fabric of space, where time becomes a loop, from which there is no escape. ...

see if that ranger raises you again before we even get to the quest lol

For all that its worth the ranger/rog in this party was not designed to disable traps. the main point of this thread should be the fact that game designers put an exploding trap in this game that does not stop. This created terrible lag, some characters even locked up completely.
After the first trap we were like wow ive never seen that before, and it wasnt that bad, but then our "rog" tried the other traps and failed, which basically created so much lag, some could not move and other things like spells were so delayed peeps started dying.
So the real question is why would someone put something like this in the game knowing full well DDO has some lag issues? Next why would someone not test this to see what kinda lag it would create? Although these traps are seldom failed, this is something that should be taken out of game. Id post a screeny but was so frustrated by the whole ordeal, and working just to get to sulu that I forgot to get a screen shot.
By the way we still won.

Well isn't that interesting..... Better not have rogues fail your checks for the time being =D

I don't recall the search or DD DCs being anything special in there.. did he forget to change items, have a set of masterwork tools, have feeblemind and curse on him when he did it?

The lag was not so bad to start but the 4th of July sparkler effect got faster and faster and faster (and never stopped) creating more and more and more lag until everything locked up.
I have a screen shot as soon as I can remember what computer I was playing on :)

I thought your dungeon alert fixed the lag.

Ohh I saw it in one of our test servers it is bugged and will be fixed accordingly.
On another note it is at least pretty to look at till you stop.

Not all lag is alike.

Heh, had this happen a couple of weeks ago when I tried disabling a trap with my fighter/rogue in VoD. We didn't suffer from too much lag because of it, just the endless, explosively embarrassing reminder than I suck :p

It was interesting to say the least at first, but with all traps going it was unbearable. We honestly thought that it would stop when the traps went away, but sadly it did not.

I blew up a biox on my piece of junk old multi-class, didn't have na items on and wasn't really expecting to have to rogue it anyways.. But yes this bug has been aroung a long time.... It was at least 9 or 10 months ago that this happened to me... it was reported and of course the report found it's way to the DDO filing cabinet (read trash can):cool::D
These days, no rogue, just leave the traps.... They go away after a minute, just stand against the wall or in a cubby and you're safe.

Exactly. See, there's the lag we notice, and the lag we don't. The latter is fixed...

This lag is caused by multiple sprites. If the trapboxes are stuck in an endless loop, sending information of a "Fail" back and forth to the server, then the lag is also (or only) caused by this as well. I would confidently guess that it would affect only the people in that instance. The lag issues that are supposed to be fixed by DA are server wide (and much more chaotic).

And unnoticed by players.
Remember a little while ago how they disabled it? 404 said he saw an increase in <bad things that cause lag>, but most players didn't.

Been absolutely horrible lag lately in the shroud (bigsurprise) and all over the sub.

It's really hard to know what "most" players did or did not in a game that has thousands of players :)
