View Full Version : THF or TWF KotC?

First, I need to know - does KotC proc on Glancing Blows, or just standard hits?
Second - Can I make use of my monty haul of greataxes, or should I default to the excessively stupidly overpowered Khopesh yet again?
Third - Assuming I go for Weapons of Good(Paladin 20), would the sacrifice in AC be worth it if I am not the main tank?
Fourth - I have a THF Human Paladin 10 that I would prefer to avoid deleting... can it be saved, or should I just kill it and make a WF instead?
Method:
a) DPS comparison: 1) 100% fort 2) 0% fort 3) Smites
b) I am not going to grind for ultra rare AC gear like the chattering ring or icy raiments. I don't want to waste that much time. Assume therefore I do not pursue these things, and my concern is in DPS and HP

I found a few builds, but they don't scream out at me...

THF should be ok. KotC damage works on all Glancing Blows as far as I know, but you want Falchions over Greataxes.
Build looks ok, though I wouldn't worry about Concentration at all.

The build I have going(if it would ever UPDATE! ARGH!) is here (http://my.ddo.com/character/argonnessen/mylvania/). She's nearly level 11 now, and was level 10 when I last logged out in Oct 2009(myddo shows her as a level 5 - it goes to say NEVER TRUST MYDDO for build info on the fly). I may get rid of her surname, but it's good to know I can salvage it. :D

KotC DOES in fact work on glancing blows, just thought I'd confirm for ya. Happens to me all the time. Silly wights ganging up on me :)
On the build you've got going.
I'm roughly following the same idea. It's a matter of personal taste, but I opted to take Im Crit: Slashing over Extend at 9. I solo so much that my mana pool is rarely a problem, even in things like C06 4-6 when i'm constantly keeping my resist energy/bless/DF up. Depends on what your priorities are. Energy of the Templar is required for KotC anyway, so it's typically enough to last me. If i run into a snag, I can just pop the archivist's necklagce for ~45 to 50 mana.
The irony of that is that it took me until lvl 9 to get my Carnifex, so I'm not really utilizing the **** feat anyway :)

Just a question about the TWF build pally's. Why Khopesh`s? If your looking for dps damage, would not Dwarven Axe's be better, if you want to burn the feats on the exotic weapon? Or what about battle axes? Are they not the same damage as a Khopesh without burning a feat?? Some insight would be nice on my noob question!

Khopeshes deal more damage over time than Dwarven Axes though. Also the two special attacks that a Paladin likes to use love to crit, which will happen much more often on a Khopesh.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I read(from Jaunt's pally build forum post) that with pallies you want weapons with a higher crit rate as opposed to a greater crit multiplier because your pally special attacks crit at the rate of your weapon.

TWF will be more damage than THF due to the way smites double up if timed right.

Just my 2cp: If I take out my impact holy stick of bash skeletons, glancing blows don't proc. This could be because I have the TWF feats line as opposed to the glancing blow bonuses from THF...

Are you using a one-handed weapon or a two-handed weapon?

Kopeshes are 1d10 3x 17-20 with improved crit. Dwarven axes are 2d8 3x 19-20 with improved crit. Kopeshes crit more often and work much better with smites and divine sacrifice. That puts them ahead on anything but mobs with 100%fort.

Today's blanket ddo damage announcement:
in pen and paper, base damage is good. moving up from 1d6 to 1d12 is a huge bonus in your per-hit damage.
on DDO, people routinely run around dealing weapon + 65 damage per attack. The difference in weapon dice is miniscule. Differences in critical behavior are, for the same reason, massive: the difference between a rapier and a longsword is tremendous due to the 50% more crits, as an example.
Dwarven axes are only good for dwarves and only then with a lot of invested AP, and even then they are worse than khopeshes, just not feat-costing.
Critical traits > all other weapon base properties.

Critical traits > all other weapon base properties.
Thus: Epic Sword of Shadow (http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Weapon:Epic_Sword_of_Shadow)
The build is more or less designed for something of this nature. I'll push Exalted Smite and Divine Sacrifice as high as I can, and focus sacrificially on DPS.
