I guess i just want to know why lately more than before has common curtosy gone out the window. earlier today i had someone with a well just odd build 8 pal 1 rogue 3 sorc try to join a lfm i put up, i was just looking for a meat shield but i sent a tell asking why that combo i was nice i just wanted to understand his playstyle (justified i think) and i got a torrent of garbage about he dont need to explain himself to me and im paraphrasing here

well im not claiming to know anything but ive been here awhile and lets just say well, shut up if you make a crazy build hay thats your thing but know people are gonna ask why

Someone was trying to argue that it wasn't because the sorc level gave them access to more SP and still uses the extra feats for higher DCs. It smelled a lil fishy to me but again I'm still a bit new and maybe a little gullable as well.

Yup, that's gimp. They will get a TINY bit more SP and in return lose 1 on spell pen, get an extra L1 spell but lose a L8 & L9 spell, miss out on 1 wiz bonus feat, miss out on the wiz capstone (so you give up 1 DC on all spells plus since the capstone increases your int and lowers the cost of using metas, that probably more than offsets the few extra SP from sorc)

A few days ago, I see a LFM for a group where the leader had, 6 cleric/5 fvs... thats to me the most stupid build imaginable (just maybe after a similar sorc/wizard combo). But maybe I'm just far to a gimped-player to not know the true genius behind it. No I didn't feel like PMing and asking about his/her build, but stayed miles away from that PuG... Makes me wonder, it stood there over an hour, not finding anybody :-)

I'm a lvl 19 cleric and considering taking my last lvl as a fighter. I love to kill stuff but when joining LFMs I usually ONLY heal unless someone tells me to do something differently. My problem is, I hear so many complaints about battle clerics. I don't want to play someone else's idea of the perfect build. I want to try something different, and think this is ideal. I took scimitar feat a while back so that I could be self-sufficient and solo alot. It has turned out well. Taking the fighter lvl will allow me to trade that feat in for something else.

I agree with folks here, but if you asked that question before adding them to your group it would be pretty easy to think that you are trying to judge the build before deciding whether to accept or deny it.

I'm sure the person would love to discuss his interesting build with you, but that person was maybe sick of being denied from a group for the 10th time that night because someone spotted the unusual level combination and made a jump in judgement. Also, it would be easy if this was asked before accepting the person into the group to think that whatever answer provided would be used to judge the "quality" of the build. First time answering the question only to be denied access to a group is one thing, but I bet if it's happened dozens of times the person is pretty sick of trying to explain himself to people who might not be willing to consider it to begin with.

If you wanted a meat shield, I would have considered replying with "I'm looking for a meat shield to fill up the group, that's what we are looking for to win with our current strategy. Is that you?" instead of asking about the "unusual" nature of the level choice. If you wanted to discuss this person's build, I would have accepted them into the group and then said, "Hey, curious about the build, want to talk about it?"

First i would like to say i agree with you maybe he was just tired of all the questions maybe i could have invited him and gave it a trial run point taken.

but the second point of this post is one we have not touched on very much proving not only my toons but my post is gimped. that point is (wait for it its good i promise ) over the first year of playing ddo i played with realy great groups, people helped each other and their was civility.

since free to play released our servers are packed (yay) right more people more groups more fun right. well maybe not experienced players are berated told they are wrong on the simplist of questions by people on their first toon who ask for help. common courtasy is gone and when you ask questions well i get answers like the one i started this thread with. as a result i see more veterans not giving advice and not helping new players

i find creating a group more like navigating a mine field these days, and only really want to join one if i see a name i know our fun and beloved gimps are not the real issue facing ddo today its common courtasy the socal changes ongoing in the new playerbase and the price of advil.

No not anymore. The game is so cookie-cutter, gear-dependent and easy that now you can play at least 90% of the quests without having a 32 point+ decked out toon. You can get pretty good weapons easily. Just play what you like, ddo is now designed that way. I have a friend he dies tons and tons in every other game so he always comes back to ddo because he says its easy.

Unfortunately that proves nothing.
Many party leaders (myself included) won't boot other players unless they have nasty personalities or do OUTSTANDING bad job. I.e. they need 3 resurrections in Shroud pt2 or can't read/listen.
