I have a level 4 fighter. I took 3 levels in fighter, then a level in cleric. However I can't use the cleric spells because my "ability level" is too low. I have no idea what that means, or what i should do. Any suggestions?

Means your wisdom is too low. Remember when you multi classed and the trainer said something about your wisdom not being high enough to cast all the cleric spells?
To cast a spell your primary casting stat must be 10 + Spell Level
For Clerics, Rangers, and Paladins this is wisdom
For Wizards it is Intellegence
For Bards and Sorcs it is Charisma
Don't know about FvS, they arn't a core class.

Your Wisdom stat is too low. Thats the stat which determines spellcasting for Clerics.
You can either equip a WIS item, and/or read a tome to increase WIS, as well as take a WIS-raising enhancement if you have at least 2 levels of cleric. This can raise your WIS stat to 11 so you can cast level 1 clerical spells. WIS 12 for level 2, 13 WIS for level 3 , and so on.
But be advice that your offensive spells will simply bounce off of enemys, as WIS determines how hard they are to resist. A WIS 8 cleric has many similarities to a STR 8 Fighter. Unless you know exactly what you are doing, and have a plan, you shouldnt multiclass on a whim.
If you state your complete base-stats and your race, as well as the reason for you multiclassing into Cleric, it can then be determined if your character is really salvageable with the resources you have at hand, or if a reroll (perhaps lesser reincarnation +1) would be better for your game enjoyment.
P.S.
You can now use all cure-wands without problem, so at least you got access to some self-healing.

you dont have enough wisdom man, samething happend to me different classes require different stat points to cast spells, clerics its wis.

i have some noob questions if anyone can answer, does wisdom also effect how much your character can heal with spells like cure light wounds ect? and also you talk about resist if someone wanted to go sorc would they need high charisma in order for opponents not to resist those spells as much? or take a spell penetration ''feat'' i believe?

Do not multiclass if you did not plan it from start.
Staying pure is never an error. Doing multiclasses wrong can easily yield undesireable results, like not beeing able to cast spells :)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's probably reroll (or a +1 lesser (?) resurrection) time.
To a certain degree you can patch it up with a + 3 WIS item or tome, so you can at least cast first level spells - albeit with a tiny spel points pool - or alternatively, just limp along with divine wands - which you will be able to use. But it'll be hard for you at higher levels -so, decision time.
Sorry, but there it is.

I would suggest a re-roll. I went lvl 1 fighter and then the rest cleric (dwarf), and am loving it. Super fun build.

Sadly, this is a typical new player mistake. If you're not planning for a Reincarnation of some kind, it may be best for you to reroll now, unless you don't care about a sub-optimal build at high level.

Multi-classing without planning for it yields bad results. Fighter splashed cleric is not a good idea, cleric splashed fighter is ok... One level of cleric is not effective for self healing at higher levelsl... at lvl 16-20 would you bring in a level 1 cleric into a level 16-20 quest and ask him to top off your 600hp? A few csw potions out-heal it... and as foir wands paladin or ranger lvls would have got that.
