In many crafting recipies it seems that you need the trap the soul spell to make soul crystals or whatever. That means it effectively blocks all classes except for sorc and wis from crafting. Please, someone correct me.

or you could just buy the gems from a wizard or sorc that have already done the trapping...

Consider yourself corrected, as you are very wrong.

The only crafting that requires soul gems is the Adamantine rituals on the Stone of Change, which are a useless joke anyways. And even should you have the desire to use them, soul gems are not bound on aquire- people who can cast Trap the Soul can make and trade them.

in fact, you don't even have to trade one from a caster! you can craft a trap the soul guard item in shroud and trap your own souls when creatures hit you. its pretty low percentage, but you theoretically can gather them that way.

Ok I thought they were bound. But if they're only used for addy rit then what's with the greater earth spirit or whatever? There are like 10 different combos for crystals. You can't mean that all of those crystals are only used in the addy rits.

The only soul gems used in crafting are the ones for the adamantine ritual, all the rest of the rituals/crafting use collectibles or ingredients than can be obtained by any character.

And all of the other kinds of soul gem besides the earth essence are useless. It could be that they will have recipes one day, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

And if soul stone will become important in DDO, this is how you do it. The same trick as in any game with 'crafting'. You create an alt.
