Just how rare are these things? Any numbers on drop rates?
Just curious what your experiences are- we farmed them til ransack before first TR- literally every single freaking day until ransack, off ransack, rinse, repeat.
Now on one of my first times out to Sands on TR.... I pull one of the ****ers.
I've seen items on Argo's auction house of similar value (around 9 mill gold) such as the Royal Guard Mask, and we farmed up RGMs without a problem.

I'll give you my useless opinion:
Ive farmed (before i left) the desert for very long time....Each week i take ten toons (sometimes more, but usually always ten) through the desert and ransack both chests.
Thats 10 toons x 2 chests x 9 pulls to ransack each =180 chests per week.
I pulled on average 1-3 stones per week. At least one, not usually more than three, occasionally four, but not often.
Yes, you'll hear stories of incredible luck, first pull, first two trips, etc and so on...these are lottery winning luck, not the average...
Take it for what you will...and good luck.

I have seen a few of the "lottery win" pulls on first or first few runs. I'm on the other side of the coin. I've never pulled one myself over the course of several hundred pulls. I would guess in the 1-2% range is accurate for getting one.

my 2 cp solo is better cause it will fall and when it does it always falls for you :)
Lorichie's numbers look about right to me altho i only ransack with three toons a week i pull one on average every three weeks and have had a few 2 a day runs as well all luck i think and work too

It might be easier to grind Weapon Shipment for the Arrowhead. Run with a group of casters trying to get the Bauble, and chances are they aren't looking for the Arrowhead.
In the meantime you can try and gather Tomes/Plat to try and trade/but your bloodstone.
I've pulled 2 Bloodstones in my life..... but grinding the desert is mind-numbing
...or just bring a F2P newbie into the desert: their first chest has a +900% chance of dropping a bloodstone.

I had the same exact experience. I farmed on many toons for 4+ months, never pulled one.
TR'd my first toon, got to lvl 9, jumped out into Sands solo for a few quick explorers and kills.
Bam! pulled the Bloodstone, first run, first chest. Kicker is, I had already purchased 2 bloodstones from AH and now
that bloodstone sits in my bank for future use.
Congrats on your pull.

That is an incredibly high rate. How long ago were you running that? It seems like they've altered the drop rate since then.
I'm with Chonas... about 100 attempts and nothing great to show for it (anyone want a coronation sheild???) The drop rate is believed to be somewhere in the .5% to 1% range.
I have recently started documenting my runs to get a sense for spawn/drop rate. The best item I have pulled so far was a +1 strength tome from Pulamak's chest.

Ah, so that is what you do when you are not running the Shroud!
I would say from my experience that it is a 1/100 chance to get a Bloodstone from either chest.
Oh, and don't you hate it when you see that big red rock in the chest and realize it is a freaking dusk heart and NOT a Bloodstone?
The Boots are probably the same, but I have only ever gotten one pair :(.

I've only run it seriously on two characters, but both are solidly in the 200+ area (one might actually be over 300), with no pulls. Still, as mentioned that isn't really enough to come up with any concrete numbers.
If I were to guess, I'd put the drop rate a bit under 1% though.
Edit: Also, the Masks have in my experience a substantially higher drop rate (2-4% maybe?). On the other hand, they're out in a quest. Not in a wilderness zone you're probably gonna ransack at every chance.

My experience...
I have been running one or two toons every week until ransack since the desert was released, I have not dropped one... zip .. zero... nada!!
I have one that I traded my soul for a while back but that's it. It really is ridiculous how rare (if ever ) it drops.
Then again, my tunes are cursed so they almost never drop anything of worth.

First off, I really have nothing to back this up but it seems to be holding true for me.
I've read somewhere there is some mystical hidden luck roll when you create a character determining how lucky your character might be in any given situation. How it all figures into everything I have no idea, but I have noticed considering all the farming or end rewards I have luckier characters.
I too have done bloodstone runs till my shoes were full of sand.... I have one character in particular that has always been luckier than the rest. Out of the 4 bloodstones I've pulled, three of them were pulled by one character.
Again, I don't have anything to back it up, but I read it somewhere and maybe I'm just looking into it more but it just seems be the case...

Ransack on 2 characters a week, checking Palumak -> Thirsty -> General -> Ddoor/recall to start -> Errulf (more often Ayurro).
I have no idea how many chest loots I am at for each of them, I never counted because those runs are so mind numbing. I put on some music and look for something to browse on the web, while using auto run to get from A to B, drop AoE spell, etc etc.
It takes me ages to ransack as well, I can do 4+ runs in a row without a single one of those 4 rares popping, that gets really dull.
It's gotten to the point where I do not even look left at Thumok while checking Thirsty, or check Harajah/Darkfur on the way to Errulf, just to shave a few seconds off each loop.
Bloodstones: 2
SS Rings: 1
Dusk Hearts: 4
Greaves: 0
I get a crazy number of Coronation Shields, and quite a lot of Dynastic Falcatas and Tourney Armors.
They are definitely more common.

Are there normal (gem) bloodstones as well? I ask because I pulled four of them from somewhere a week back. (Not the sands, haven't been out there.) and there didn't seem to be anything special about them. I vendored them off for normal cash. I'm hoping the reply does not make me scream; the cats are sleeping.

Yep. My wife got some out of a smashed barrel (can't remember where...). She asked about them and we determined they are just gems. (Backed up by the fact that they auto-gathered into her gem bag)

I'd say its about a 1% chance. I have pulled 3 bloodstones in maybe over 300 runs.
On the other hand, the firestorm greaves kill me. I've never seen them drop for me.

Now this one, this one was a pain in the rear...same ten toons, drop it down prolly to a year of straight ransacking....10 toons x 1 chest x 9 runs = 90 pulls a week....
Ive pulled about 12 in a year, so little less than one per month...This is my cursed chest, however, its an absurdly easier and faster run than the bloodstone runs so, i suppose in some sadistic way, its meant to be.

Also greaves are much harder to pull because you have 1 possible chest instead of 2 possible chests for the bloodstone.

My first character, on my first time in the desert, on the first rare I came across (mephit), I pulled one. Nearly crapped myself.
200+ chests later (between myself and teammates) have seen one other pulled, just the other day by a guild mate.

I have no calculations only fact I spent 2 years farming them on various girls finally decided to run my ranger 3 times a night (more if nothing else was going on) out into the desert farming both chests to see if Id get lucky.
I struck gold 2 times once in the Palmek chest the other in the Thirsty one that was last year I have not seen another blood stone drop.
so I cherish the two I have now. Its the same luck with the ring of spell storing farmed and farmed finally got one on my favored soul's solo run out there the other one my cleric monk pulled in a group and had to tell people yeah im keeping it lol.
Wish you luck in getting one op keep at it it will happen eventually.

So I got the Bloodstone-
Today (around a week later?) we were running out in Sands looking at the new graphics. Killed some ****, looked around the market, went to House K and we went to go check the Orchard.
Two hours after running Sands, I go to sell in Necro and what do I find in my inventory?
Firestorm Greaves.
Didn't even notice I had pulled them.
Then I went and farmed Risia tokens.
Firestorm Greaves + Slay Living = Dead Fire Eles = Tokens = Win.

I have 3 toons that are 3000/3000 undead kills, from only kills for Bloodstone and Spell Storing chest. This number doesn't count the fact that on 2 of those I was running in there before it was a slayer area. Or the fact that I, foolishly, continue to run Bloodstones. Total Bloodstone Drops: 0
I did pull the Dusk Heart the day after it was added to the loot table...I was ****ing thrilled

Also greaves are much harder to pull because you have 1 possible chest instead of 2 possible chests for the bloodstone.
Now I actually encounter more Errulfs than undead rares because even though Ayurro can pop, there is always EITHER Ayurro or Errulf up, where I can go for many runs in the desert without a single one of Palumak/Thirsty/General spawning.
I haven't gotten any Greaves yet though, but this is largely due to me not actually checking Errulf for quite a while on my earlier desert runs (just undead side -> reset) before realizing that was a stupid thing to do.
I've run an easy 200+ times, not a one. Guildie alt has pulled 4 in less than a week just killing the reds as they go to quests for normal leveling.

have farmed for the bloodstone so many times i couldnt begin to count over the last few years. my success rate so far- bloodstones = 0 lol, too many dusk hearts to count. when i make the run for those two chest i try to work in the fire reaves and have had a lil better luck with them.
I'm starting to figure out how to get the bloodstone to drop. if u never farm for it, u run with me and it will drop for you on your first try lmao :) jk but it seems to happen alot lol

The beauty of it is that since there are two chests that drop the bloodstone you could pull it twice on the same run... but what are the odds of that?

Hmmm. I thought it was the desert that introduced wilderness areas and the rares/slayers format. It's been years, though, and my brain is shot...

Thanks, Articus.
I guess that's why many in my guild (including myself) weren't too into the desert when it first came out. All those mobs needing to be killed to get all the way out to Chains of Flame, and all you got were some Bronze Tokens? Thank god they implemented the wilderness area system, or I'd almost never go out there.

My friend and I can't pop the Thirsty One at all, we're not even going for the Bloodstone really, just finishing off the rares. He's hiding and won't come out!
EDIT: We actually popped him last night right after I made this post. He's a regular skeleton! No wonder he doesn't come out of hiding, he dies so quickly. The only thing we seem manage to get from the rares are multiple Zephyrs and a Coronation Shield from the General.

If you farm it to ransack and don't get one, go out on your wizard or other character that has little use for one. Murphy's law says it will drop for you. I've pulled 2. One on an AA ranger on the 2nd trip to desert, one on my wizard after his 40-50th run or so.
It's luck. You are just as likely to pull one on your first run as your 50th and if you are specifically trying to find a blood stone, it will never drop. Both of mine were totally unexpected. I was just trying to hit 3000 undead kills on my wizard.
NEVER sell them. Pass them down to your new characters ;)

They're so rare that it would be easier to find the real lost ark instead of getting a bloodstone...

I hadn't realized they were so low on drop chance (coming from a fairly experienced newb) it makes me ill to think that I pulled both the greaves and the bloodstone on my first try on the same character... just wow
