View Full Version : Players Sabotaging Quests?

Hello.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this thread. I was looking around and this was the best place that I found. If I am mistaken, please let me know where I can put this in the future.
There have been more and more occurances where players are entering parties with the intention of sabotaging quests! I've heard that there's a website or a guild that purposely does it and gives out points after seeing how much damage was done or if s/he made the party wipe. Tonight, I was in a GH quest and I know for a fact that the cleric we had in our party made us wipe intentionally. S/he could hear us, but still did everything wrong, trying to get the group killed.
Now, I love the game. A lot! But this makes me not want to play and cancel my subscription along with my fiance's who also plays. He's tired of it too. I come here to unwind after work, but instead these people are ruining it for everyone. What I want to know is, is there ANYTHING we can do to insure this doesn't happen? Can they be reported? Can they be banned? Anything?
Thanks for reading.

You can report them for harassment, if you believe that was the case.

Is that accessed through CTRL+H and submitted via ticket?

Otherwise its still a minority, just ignore/ban them and shrug it off. You'll never have to deal with em again.

I guess it depends on what you mean by deliberately caused.
If they just did nothing at all, that'd be all you. All a player would really need to do in a quest such as Prison of the Planes would be to take a few of the power orbs and keep them - especially if it was the first ones. That'd be a reform.
Merely running ahead or running ahead and then back through the party - well, that's unhelpful but you should be able to work around it if you're any good at this game.

It's more like, getting the aggro of EVERYONE in the dungeon- which harries the group and makes it near impossible to kill, since we're all slowed and confused.
Purposely dying somewhere after having a key, or horn, or etc, in a place that is impossible and suicidal to get to.
I know if someone does nothing that's a reform. Don't act like I'm stupid. I know that if something is an accident, it's okay. This is my first post, and only claim, and I wouldn't post anything if I wasn't sure my assumptions were based on facts.
Other players have noticed it too.

You've been playing long enough to realise that the best way to deal with people like this is to leave the group.
Unfortunately it means redoing it again, but just as in real life, some people like to make it as impossible and unpleasant as they can because they are shrivelled up inside. Also don't forget that you don't know how old they are, they could just be 10 and the f2p option can let anyone download and start to ruin.
I haven't had as bad as this, just bad players who have no idea how to play, which is why I play solo mostly these days.
Although there is always the danger you may start doing this to yourself and then you know you are in trouble.

This is your answer.
Should you actually know the guild name and/or web site, you can PM Telero or Tarrant and let them deal with it.

Just say no to PuGs. Find a guild, problem solved.
U must be unlucky or being specifically targeted.....I've run on 5 servers and play like it's my job and have only run into this one time ever. Sadly for that player, I and a few other in party just dominated the situation and there was no run breaking thing he/she/it could do....
We laughed are asses of at the pathetic efforts, and i never saw that player again. Honestly, unless your being hunted, or your server has just stumbled into a six pack of guilded azzhats......problem should not even happen to you again.

99% of the cases its just more idioticity than malicious.
In a few months PuGing I only met 1 malicious player, and he more wanted XP for free, that is runned around the first corner with the group and then hid and wanted to wait until the adventure was over. However, we all left the group and reformed, suddendly he was not AFK anymore :-/
However I met a few dozend idiots :-) But still 3 out of 4 PuGs are still all very nice people, at least once you pass level 10.

I have noticed this in the past, especially since F2P, but not at such a high level as GH.
I follow the rule of 'Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity', at least for the first time.
It's a sad fact, but occasionally in a pug you get some stupids. If you find a good guild, then you won't have to deal with that.
When I pug, I sort of approach it like a blind date. Sometimes it fizzles, and I stick in until the end and then drop group. Sometimes it is downright nasty, and then I drop group in the middle of the quest, so to speak. And sometimes it turns into an all weekend loot and xp fest, complete with guild invite :)

Good luck. I prefer to play than spend my time administering other players and I guess Turbine probably has as well.
If I was a f2p saboteur why would I worry about being banned if all I have to do is get another Hotmail account and sign up again to start over. Unless they can ban IP addresses.
If there are 50k plus players that someone has suggested that is a full time job for a team to report the mentally questionable ones.

Allow me to speak with my personal experience on the same thing lately.
Our guild had a player who thought it would funny to grief some parties he was in. This player had two toons in our guild.
This happened for approximately a week and sadly, no one reported this player to our guild. Our guild leader, just by happenstance, grouped with another guild leader who was griefed and was questioned about this.
Once our guild leader had this information he had to excuse himself from the group and we had an impromptu officers meeting. While we don't have strict rules on what we will do, we do try to come to an agreement by majority. The officers were told of the incident, voted and turfed the user from our guild. It was a unanamous decision to turf the players two toons from the guild.
I bring this up simply because a lot of people don't realize that many guilds really do care. And once a player causes issues that player can be turfed from their guild. If they are involved in griefing then we also blacklist that player and thier known toons.
What effect can being kicked out of a guild have? That player loses the support of the guild, shared loot through the guild bank, assistance with flagging, spaces saved for raids etc.
Please, do not assume the entire guild is for griefing just because one player makes that statement. Speak with the guild and if you need to, make it sounds like you're curious about joining and ask if they have an application or website. if they do, more than likely their values will be publicly visable and you can judge for yourself if you think you can trust them to handle a player or if they are also griefers.
Lastly, you did not mention the server you were on. If it was on Sarlona then yes it is possible that this griefer was the one kicked from our guild since we released them just a few days ago. If it was our former member then on behalf of our guild I would like to apologize to all users on our behalf and if there is any way we can help you out, please do not hesitate to ask.
You can check our website from the link below and I also posted a public message on our forums about the member that was released.
