Hey,
What does Quicken do?
Do sorcerers cast faster than wizards? Is this an activated ability? How much faster?
Does this effect cool down on spells (eg wall of fire)? Does Quicken effect cool down on spells?
Does a quicken-enhanced sorcerer cast more walls of fire / minute than a non-quickened wizard?
Thanks,
KJ.

a sorc without quicken will cast faster than a wizard without quicken
a sorc without quicken will cast slower than a wizzy with quicken EDIT: wrong, was looking at this for scorching ray, and assumed it was the same for all other spells, sorc is as fast as wizzy with quicken, for most spells...
a sorc with quicken will cast faster (just barely) than a wizzy with quicken, as both are extremely fast now
quicken does not effect cooldown timers in sorcs or wizzies, however your spells cannot be interupted while you have quicken on, so no concentration checks are required when hit while casting, quicken does cost extra sp however.
hope this helps

Yes, you patronizing plebian, I see it.
Why don't you try using it to find another thread that answers this question? Not just "any old thread" about quicken, but one that actually addresses the points I asked. Or even just one of them. Find me ONE thread that addresses cool down of spells with quicken.
Go on. Try.

Thank you, it does.
I take it then that really the only benefit of a sorc to have quicken is to avoid concentration checks which, unless he's soloing, he shouldn't really have to make anyway.

Hes wrong, a sorc without quicken casts exactly as fast as a wizard with quicken.
Quicken negates concentration checks and speeds up the casting animation. Sorcerors naturally get the faster animation on all but a couple spells (which are bugged). They don't get the concentration benefit. There's little reason to take quicken on a sorceror that isn't a wf that wants the no concentration checks for self healing, as long as you keep your conc score high.

There's steps both classes can take to where they shouldn't get hit as much and therefore shouldn't have to rely on Quicken. Blur/Displace. Jump. Haste. And don't skimp on your Concentration skill.
I only really use Quicken on my caster when casting fogs because of the abysmally slow casting speed. Now that fogs aren't really as effective, I may even get rid of Quicken.
I'd still recommend a WF caster take Quicken, for uninterrupted healing when it matters.

JUST tested this in pvp, had a wizzy cast scorching ray with quicken, and me on my sorc (without quicken) casted scorching ray, and the animation for the wizzy was faster, cooldown for sorc still was faster so they can get more off, since the cooldowns are not effected, but the cast time was faster for wizzy with quick compared to the sorc without quicken.
EDIT: nvrm, look at mr cow's post below, s ray is bugged, my bad :(

Scorching Ray and a couple other select spells (like Cone of Cold) still have an age-old issue where the wizard casts it with fast-casting, and not the sorcerer.

You're right!, my bad D'oh. Tested it with mm and fireball this time around.
