WELLLLllll it all started around 5 PM central time last night.

I run the shroud on Thursdays and Sundays on Khyber. Knowing this, every Thursday I come off ransack timer. Since I don't keep a quest log that tells exactly what time I looted the first chest I often run probe shrouds to see if I'm off the ransack timer. This is what I did.

I joined a group and we start talking about the shroud (I joined because there was a 20 cleric and 20 sorc which usually means good heals on part 5 and good clears on part 1). We start shooting the breeze as we fill. I share a puzzle solver @ which the group leader takes offense. I then say I like running with higher levels because it seems to go faster, he kicks me. No big, never been kicked from a group before, so I start my own. We complete it in about 30-45 minutes, I'm still on ransack so I go eat my dinner.

Come back around 6:15 and join a group of 4 that says VON part 5, Elite 6. I just purchased VON and flagged so I'd be permaflagged for epic, but have never done these 2 parts so I join. There are 3 other people in the party and we get to the levers over lava part but realize we need more people. So we leave dungeon, convert to raid party and fill. We get in and hammer through 5 in about 15 minutes (remember I haven't done this before), and we go through the doors behind orphene and up to the top. Open the 3 trapped doors into the room with the dwarf and I talk to him.

I now know this should not be done until you're sure everyone's in the room.

5 people got locked out, and they were a little upset. . ok some were pretty effin mad, but the rest of us agree we don't want to attempt part 6 on elite with 7 people so we leave. I mean we agree that it would be rude of us not to do part 5 over and bring the other 5 back. . . So we run through it again in about 10 minutes.

Get to part 6 (still don't know what I'm doing), and they go take the bases. Our guy on 3rd dies and I run over to kill his trash while someone raises him. Everyone screams "WE'RE GOING TO LOSE THE BRIDGE GET BACK HERE." We didn't lose the bridge (I assume since it was still there). All pillars go down, we run to Velah. This is a good time, I think to tell you our party composition. 6 warforged, 3 casters, the rest are fighters or rogues/bards. There are no clerics or FVS. Well we get Velah down to about 20 and there are only 2 people left. One of them goes hero and takes velah out, then says "guys I don't have raise dead." We collectively groan since there is no rez shrine and no cakes are allowed. The only guy left gets his loot the rest of us leave sorely disappointed.

I (ever light-hearted) go off (around 9) and make a shroud group. It fills with primarily barbarians and paladins. Portals go down super fast. Stage 2 ends in about 10 minutes. No one has problems with puzzles and I ask, "are you guys sure you don't want to farm with me." Most of them say they will, a few are finishing. We take out harry in 1 (about when the DM says "you see a blur in the air"). Part 5 we take out harry with minimal casualties and I say "AFTER WE KILL HARRY GET OFF THE ALTAR PLATFORM SO NO ONE ACCIDENTALLY CLICKS THE ALTAR." We kill him, 3 people linger on the altar platform so I say "please step off the platf-" "you have completed the shroud."

Swearing abounds.

2 people hit the ddoor in an attempt to get out and were cut off from loot. Oh well I got 2 larges that I needed.

It's about 11 and some of the disheartened crew from the shroud hangs around and someone pipes up, " what's next boss."

And now I direct you to the final adventure of the evening http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2719276&postcount=10.

Yay for me!

In conclusion, even though people can be down about stuff (getting locked out of von loot, now having to run 9 shrouds in a day instead of 5, getting kicked from a group for your first time ever) if you persevere you'll probably be rewarded. . . once. . . maybe. . or not.

Side Note: Still looking for 16 large scales and 11 other large ingredients.

communication is the key.

All raids should start off with:

"who here has NEVER done this raid before?"

if no one says me, go to second question:

"anyone have any questions on how the raid works?"

Even vets will reply "what is the strat", but if no one pipes up when they should, and there is a wipe/loss of loot because of it, you get "the list".

I actually said that when we we're in the 4 person group in VoN 5. One of them was the group leader. He did tell me to read the "are you raid ready" forum, but we were in the midst of solving the puzzle so I forgot about it.

I agree with Shaamis, in each case there was someone who obviously didn't know the quest (you in Von and someone else in Shroud) that didn't speak up and the leader apparently didnt ask.

Lesson learned (hopefully).

On a positive note, at least your bad night consisted on completing 3 raids.
