View Full Version : How can you resize/change the group window for healers?

I could be blind but I cannot seem to figure out how to either resize or change the way that the UI displays health bars.

The way it is set up right now does not facilitate efficient targeting and monitoring for healing purposes.

If this doesn't exist I would ask that it be looked at.

Being able to just make the health bars larger WIHOUT making the rest of the UI larger would be an improvement.

Now in order to preempt the naysayers this is MY opinion and I would LIKE to have this option. If you were rabidly against this idea you could keep your setup as-is and would not adversely affect you in any way.

As I am posting this at work ... >.> ... <.< ... I don't have access to the game. That said my answer may not be entirely correct but I'll try.

As far as I am aware there is no option to scale / resize the bars. And believe me I feel your pain. I play on a very high resolution so those bars are rather small. Now I can't say for certain but there might be a UI Scale option. If not, I agree that there should be a way to resize the HP / Spell Point / Ki bars.

And as I'm sure plenty of other people will post here, this is yet another one of many GUI enhancements that the game needs. I'm sure it will be done eventually but there's no way to know how long it will take as this is a minor improvement (in the grand scheme of things).

Try playing with the skins for DDO. Some of them have scaled toolbars, but to be honest, I'm not sure if there is one to increase the size or not. Good luck.

no way to scale the current UI.

and fyi you can hit the F keys to select the proper party member as needed.

Not sure how well this hits the OP's concern, but when I'm playing my healer the part of the health meter that is under the name is a big issue for me. I don't see through the name very well to the meter underneath and, as a result, I can't heal as well as I think I ought.

In other words, if I'm healing you and your name is 'verylongname' I can't see the difference between when the bar comes out to the 'a' versus it coming out to the 'r'.

Thanks for the replies. I am aware that you can use the F keys to move between allies. That's ok and it's what I have been doing but there are times that it isn't optimal.

I run at max resolution. I think the game allows 1920X1600. This makes those group health bars TINY. As far as I can tell I can't even MOVE the bars to a better location so that I can at least see them better.

I'll take a look at some of the UI skins and see if that helps. I'm suprised that this has never been brought up before.

I much prefer being able to separate the bars so they are horizontal rather than vertical (as the keys you press to target them are horizontal (i actually use esdf in place of wasd so my hand can reach more things and is in a natural typing position as well) but this game doesn't seem to support making them horizontal. (I also have qwrty as the ability to target everyone in my party as well)

But it does support moving it. I don't know why it's so hard to unlock, but if you click about 10-20 times on the top of the party bars you'll eventually be able to drag and move it to another place just like any other UI element. I do this with all my characters, even the non-healing ones because it allows me to see how my party is doing. If someone needs something killed quickly it helps to know who needs help.

I play on 1920x1080 on a 24" monitor as well.

Thanks Kitten! That's been the most helpful/useful response that I've gotten on the topic. I usually get slammed for wanting to turn DDO into another MMO just because I want to resize/move the group window... Amazing!

I knew it was a bug that was causing this. It doesn't make sense why this one portion of the UI isn't movable considering everything else is. I'll try your solution tonight when I get home.

Thanks again.

The way it is set up right now does not facilitate efficient targeting

And how are you targeting players? By clicking on them? By clicking on their name?

At higher levels you will use mass heals, centered on a specific person (typically melee). If you need spot healing you would do what every other decently played cleric does and use the F keys to target the character in question. If you're not using the F keys then you need to start right now.

The amazing fact that there are 12 F keys and raid parties can have up to 12 members is absolutely astounding. You can target anyone in less than a second without having to move your mouse.

It's also astounding how many people seem to forget you might want to move (especially sideways strafing to avoid inc ranged attacks such as annoying kobold shaman fireballs) while trying to target someone for a heal. Obviously we all move with left hand, use mouse to control view and thus find it faster to just klick on someones name/HP instead of looking for the F6 or worse, F11, to toss a buff or heal.

You should not take for granted that everyone has the typing skill of a squid that has 12 "fingers" instead of just 5 available - well 4 in reality since the thumb is to far down on the hand to be of any use for anything above the spacebar. :D

What DDO need is a completely scalable AND movable UI. Every element of it!
The way it is now, it is as foolish as if all the cars in the world would not have adjustable seats, just assume everyone has exactly same length of legs and arms to drive with.

There is no point in DDO not having scalable/movable UI. Seriously, it's to easy to do with the coding. There is no reason to have the UI so ... limited... They are just lazy developers.

Just came back after a year/year and a half off from this game and I am extremely surprised that there is no scaleable UI. What gives? This is a no brainer and has been asked for since we were in the first stage of Alpha Testing! (yes I am an oldie).

Please get a scaleable UI in!
