View Full Version : If you were translated into a DDO character what might it look like?

Being the unoriginal and uncreative person that I am (**** there's a hit to INT/WIS/CHA) I find myself thinking about how I would roll as a character in whatever D&D flavored game I happen to be playing. I did a quick search and found only that its hard to do a search involving the terms, you, as, and character in the class discussion forum without getting a ton of irrelevant hits. So I figured with all the new people around we could have an interesting time with a new one. So with no further adieu here is how I see myself as a DDO character.

I was actually thinking about making a spreadsheet for this that you could send to your friends and things, and fill yourself.
STR = (Maximum bench press + Maximum Squat)/(Highest reported Max bench + Squat of everyone in system) * 18
CON = (Largest # of miles runnable * # of scars on body)/(Largest # of miles runnable * scars on body) * 18
CHA= (Rating on some "rate my picture" place * # of people kissed in life)/(Top rating on picture place*# of people kissed) * 18 (unless 1st person kissed = marriage partner, then automatic 18)
INT = (Average INT score/ Top INT score of all people in system) * 18
WIS = (# of philosophy classes attended *[10% * # of philosophy books read]/ Highest # philosophy classes attended * [10% * philosophy books read]) * 18
DEX = Reaction speed/ Top reaction speed * 18
I think that most people would be pretty balanced. The athletes would be fighters, "intellectuals" would be wizards, philosophy majors/lawyers would be clerics, Hockey goalies, shortstops and speed addicts would be finesse builds, so on and so forth.
I'd probably be a tank since my int would be over 13, str would be around 14-16, and con would be waayyyyy up there.

Waaaaaaaaay back in college, I actually played in a campaign based on this premise. Was a blast :D . We couldn't do our own stats, but had the other players do them. As far as I can remember, what was given to me was:
Str: 16 (I worked doing a lot of physical labor at the time)
Con: 13
Dex: 10
Int: 13 (based in IQ/10)
Wis: 08 :(
Cha: 12

Determining your strength score is not so complicated. On page 162 of the player's handbook there is a character of light, medium, and heavy loads per strength score. On that same page it also states that a character can left as much as their maximum load over their head. Maximum load being the highest number of the heavy load ranged. So according to the chart a person with a strength of 16 should be able to left 230 lb over their head.

Hmm. Difficult one to answer. There would have to be Kenders in game to make it work better though. I'd be a Kender Rogue 17/Paladin 3 with a short attention span, an overzealous burning to do what is right, and the capacity to get in trouble while doing it.

Back when I was still playing dice D&D, my 10 person group decided to take a break and do this very exercise. We all rated ourselves and the group also rated each other. Your rating accounted for...hmmm, let me think, 30% and the group 70%. It was an eye-opening experience! Some soon realized that while they were experienced gamers, they made very poor characters...how many very smart, quite weak, gets ill often, doesn't work well with others( and not easy on the eyes) characters can you have.
The big thing was the discrepancy between some of the self evals and the group evals. Some people were very modest in there self evaluations while others were quite delusional! Yes, some arguments ensued. Luckily for our hard-core gamers in the group, we had two female players that were VERY nice to them in the evaluation.
When completing mine and doing the averaging...I ended up being a rather well rounded character with CHR being my stand out stat. Only I'm not really bard material. I can carry a tune but that's about it, lol. At the time, our DM was using a special class for some of the NPCs called the Witch, which (hahaha) I ended up being. It was an amalgam of Druid, Wizard, and cleric classes.

If you have friends over that are D&D savvy, try what we did. Rate yourself and others being as honest as possible. Discuss each person and why you gave the rating you did. It made for an interesting and entertain night!!!

Unfortunately the multi-class mutt that would truly describe my build includes monk/bard which is not an allowable combo in DDO.

Cute idea.
Actually my bard is probably a good "description" of me... making others lives easier without actually doing anything useful herself. :) And I *can* actually sing.
Stat wise ... hmmm. It's a high CHA toon. Maybe. :) I certainly didn't get into my guild on my twitch skills. Deathbot Mascot only. LOL

everyone's thoughts and comments are interesting. I have always felt that the characters we choose in D&D are either aspects of ourselves or who we would aspire to be like and wondered if others felt the same. Are your current toons parts of you or characters you wish you were?
I never in all my D&D history created a fighter type or a thief type...I feel that it's because i don't relate or it's not in my own nature. I've mostly been clerics and wizards. These classes I feel most closest to. I'm very helpful and in healthcare in real life. I also read alot and tend to be more spiritual than religious. The closest fighter type I could relate to would be the monk given my armed forces history and martial arts experience but even so....
So keep the comments coming....I'm enjoying this thread

I don't even know if those stats are possible. But that's what I'd have, I think. I'd also be a Pyromaniac.

Apparently, I have a lot of unspent skill points :P (or not, but the skills don't exist in DDO). Off-class skills in healing (first aid and CPR training) and Concentration, I know how to use lockpicks, but I'm not great with them, I can still get some basic tumbler locks, I can swim, but not well, I'm not very intimidating. I think a 140 IQ is reasonable, maybe a little high, but (i'd like to think, at least) not by more than 10 points. those 16/17/18 IQs are like the characters on Big Bang Theory. Like being the caricature of a genius.

nice idea, actually something that floats in my head when I am bored.
I'd probably be a low level paladin, all 'rah rah god smite thee' but without any actually useful spells, so I'd just hit stuff. :P (like a space marine without the space marine)
Although skillwise I'd be more of a ranger/monk, because thats more actually what I'm good at.
Fun though, thanks

I'm an artist. I can't lift much over my head, but I definitely have the dexterity to draw accurately. I've had divine intervention happen 3 times in my life. I won't say I'm a "holy" man, but I'm out to look for others while doing my own thing. BEFORE I started my sales job, I would've said my CHA was 8, but after some training it's at 12.
IQ is 166, so 16 seemed fitting. I pretty much grew up around wisdom and depict it as one of my greatest traits. Because of my wisdom and understanding of the fundamental functions of birth of life and process of death, I'm extremely slow to anger, making me good. However, because of this understanding, I'm also close to nature, thus I am neutral.
If I had domains, I'd be Fire (Creation) and Time (Vision).
So, I'm actually a very well balanced individual. XD

I'd be a completionist TR with 3+ past lives each Bard, Sorc, Wiz... 2 or more past lives each Monk, Fighter, Barb, Cleric, Ranger, FvS... 1 each of Paladin, Rogue.

Half-Elf Female (body of a human, face in between human and elf, ears somehow seem pointy even though they're not ;) )
9 STR
15 DEX
12 CON

14 WIS

Where would that put me? I can't run at all -- well, I had not run in years so this particular combination of leg and heart motion is completely atrophied, but I can swim for miles.
DDO is about to introduce underwater combat, so will there be an underwater finesse build?
I would also have mid STR, low WIS, low-mid DEX and high INT.

Something along the lines of
STR 10
DEX 10
CON 10
INT 14
WIS 14
CHA 16
I'm not really charismatic per-se, but I tend to be pretty considerate towards others (or their ideas) and it seems to backfire.
I haven't done a lot of sports/exercise so STR/CON might even be lower, but I'm not really in a bad shape.
Beside that, I'm a pretty intellectual individual, so I would probably play something like cleric/wizard (man, this brings back memories from those few 2nd ED games).
As for what I would be in DDO if I were to be translated? Probably something like a mission giver who's 'quest' is pretty simple, but serves much greater plans!
Like, creating a conjuration spell which makes it rain food! ... or fire...
Otherworld
06-04-2010, 08:21 AM
Human wizard
STR 8
DEX 14
CON 12
INT 16
WIS 14
CHA 8
I'd probably be something wizard-like as I'm a technical artist (translation: I make games) and I always see games as something magical O.O
Not rly strong, quite dextrous, average CON, high INT, quite wise, low CHA.
Oh and I'm the 4th character I rolled as I already died 4 times since I started my life (4 times in my first year).
I'm probably gonna be Deva next time xD

Just want to note, the official Mensa IQ test only goes up to 163, but you can get tests that go up to 200. for the Mensa test IQ divided by 8 would be better.
and I would be about

14con
18int
12wis
8cha
which is a 30 point build

WIS = (# of philosophy classes attended *[10% * # of philosophy books read]/ Highest # philosophy classes attended * [10% * philosophy books read]) * 18
DEX = Reaction speed/ Top reaction speed * 18
Think that should all be *8 not *18. If i remember right, 8 is considered an average person in the D&D world. Hence all the adventures are a bit above average, and thats why they can go kill deamons ect.

Ok I'd definitely be a Cleric. I'm always helping others. I've been ordained and do lead spiritual discussion groups. I prefer healing/helping to outright fighting (though I'm capable of defending myself and others when needed).
Not sure if I'd be halfling or elf. I'm small (5'2" and about 80 pounds). So I decided halfling but I guess elf could fit as well.
Starting
Abilities Base Stats
(32 Point) (Level 1)
Strength 8 I'm not a physically strong person
Dexterity 12 I have fairly quick responses but it is not my strong suit
Constitution 10 I don't have a lot of ability to walk far much less run.
Intelligence 16 I'm very self taught and people often comment on my intellect so this seemed appropriate
Wisdom 16 I think wisdom is aquired through experience, with my life I should have MORE than this
Charisma 14 Chr is about BS as much as beauty. Well I'm not gorgeous but I sure can BS lol
So I think that came out about right. IMO Int and Wis probably should be a bit higher but it wouldn't fit and still get in the other attributes. I'm not strong nor fast but I am smart and quick ;) (and when all else fails I'm convincing)

Why dwarf? Though they are my favorite dnd race, I am anything but short, as I stand 6'7" and close to 350lbs. The two classes though are ... meh, don't have the self discipline for monk and sorcerer would be a bit of a stretch. The stats do seem to be about right, though from the 3.5 rules my str would be closer to 20 and my bench is close to 400lbs. Other than that, was fun, a nice diversion while at work.

Considering a score of 10 for the average person of my age, here's how I think I'd fare:
STR 9 - Just under average, as I can open a pickle jar and I've worked in a car service station, but the best I got to in my fitness days was bench pressing 60 kilos (weighed 65 at the time).
DEX 14 - My best position on a football (as in soccer) pitch was goalkeeper and I've trained handball for a couple of months, which still has benefits in snowball fights.
CON 15 - Pretty good at running (or at least I used to be before graduating from university and work having me to sit on my ass the whole day), not disease prone, love hiking in mountains and not going to hospital after some of the stuff I used to eat in my university days makes me think I'm pretty resilient. (Had listed this as 13, but most of the people I know can't spend an hour hiking with me, so the score is high because the average standard is low :D )
INT 15 - I like to think graduating Aviation Technologies with a maximum score on my bachelore's degree state exam means I'm smarter than the average bear
WIS 13 - Because of the fore-mentioned degree and my habit to spend free time on wikipedia reading about stuff from geology and astronomy to cocktail recipes and world records in ski jumping
CHA 12 - I've spent nights with women widely evaluated as 'beautiful' who were not desperate at the time, so I should be at least a bit over average :D

I went 32-pt build since I've been around a few years
14 str (not as strong as I used to be, but perhaps gained WIS as I aged)
10 dex (just how agile is 6'2 250lb normal-ish person going to be)
14 con (funny how health starts to fail if you don't keep on top of it)
16 int (not real smart but have the engineering attitude of I remember where to look it up)
16 wis (25 years of designing products and solutions for people has to count for something)
10 cha (my wife says I'm cute but I think she's biased or something)
What role would I be playing? Probably a dwarven engineer making siege engines or ballistas or seemingly high-tech stuff for the people with enough money to pay for them.

Neutral Good Human Ranger (6th Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength- 14
Dexterity- 16
Constitution- 13
Intelligence- 15
Wisdom- 15
Charisma- 14
Alignment:
Neutral Good- A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.
Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Class:
Rangers- Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

Alignment:Lawful Good A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment because it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest.
Race:Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Class:Monks are versatile warriors skilled at fighting without weapons or armor. Good-aligned monks serve as protectors of the people, while evil monks make ideal spies and assassins. Though they don't cast spells, monks channel a subtle energy, called ki. This energy allows them to perform amazing feats, such as healing themselves, catching arrows in flight, and dodging blows with lightning speed. Their mundane and ki-based abilities grow with experience, granting them more power over themselves and their environment. Monks suffer unique penalties to their abilities if they wear armor, as doing so violates their rigid oath. A monk wearing armor loses their Wisdom and level based armor class bonuses, their movement speed, and their additional unarmed attacks per round.
Got to say this is pretty accurate. I'm a computer programmer, have a near-photographic memory and attention to detail, but I'm also a martial artist and assistant instructor.

I'm built like a Dwarf (5'6' 210lbs, not fat) and hairy as hell, but I guess it couldn't get that.
I thought I'd get Bard though, Sorcerer is suprising (singer/songwriter) (Studied Engineering and Philosophy at University - I was expecting something like Bard/Cleric/Ranger)
Scores seem really high, I answered more towards the middle of most questions and honestly. Maybe I just have a lot of below average friends as reference points :p
CON 18 has to be from never getting sick (haven't had the flu or a cold lasting more than a day since I was a kid, have perfect vision/hearing, etc. . . no diseases or conditions). I can only run about 2 miles straight, but as I said, I'ver very muscled and stocky like a dwaf and it just really works against my frame. My leg press and squat weights are just absurd though.

Class:
Clerics- Clerics act as intermediaries between the earthly and the divine (or infernal) worlds. A good cleric helps those in need, while an evil cleric seeks to spread his patron's vision of evil across the world. All clerics can heal wounds and bring people back from the brink of death, and powerful clerics can even raise the dead. Likewise, all clerics have authority over undead creatures, and they can turn away or even destroy these creatures. Clerics are trained in the use of simple weapons, and can use all forms of armor and shields without penalty, since armor does not interfere with the casting of divine spells. In addition to his normal complement of spells, every cleric chooses to focus on two of his deity's domains. These domains grants the cleric special powers, and give him access to spells that he might otherwise never learn. A cleric's Wisdom score should be high, since this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

Having attended quite some number philosophy classes and a number of books, I can attest you philosophy as been taught has nothing to do with what DnD undestands under "wisdom".
Heh.. id say it affects charisma more, since bluff (and maybe diploacy) is pretty much what you learn in philosphy classes, least the ones i have taken. BTW Gilbert Ryle's "The concept of mind" is a great philosophy book if yer interested in such things.
Many years ago (highschool, early 90s) there was a webpage that would roll up your stats for a DnD character. It might have been on a BBS.
Seeing as 10 is average for every stat to a normal person, im wondering how so many ddo players arent breaking their keyboards with their 18 strengths, or solving the cold fusion/unified string theory/global(warming/food/population) debates with their massive int's...
My stats would probably be:
STR - 12. im not a bodybuilder, but my job keeps me in decent shape.
DEX - 14 spend my time working climbing around on roofs and inside HVAC equipment
CON - 18 im allergic to painkillers, so have developed a massive pain tolerance over the years.
INT - 14 this one is hard, as i have spent the last 20 years killing off my braincells.
WIS - 10 im sure i would have made better choices in my life if i was wise.
CHA - 6 Being misanthropic this wouldnt be very high, i do receive a +10 bonus when drunk tho!
My alignment is probably chaotic evil, as many times i wish i had gotten a degree in microbiology instead of anthropology so that i could create the virus that destroys the human race.
Class.. id say monk, since i have spent more than half my life training in various martial arts. My alignment would restrict that tho, so barbarian i guess!

My table top group did this once as well, assigning each others stats. These are roughly what they gave me if I remember right. The class / skills etc chosen by myself, come from the fact that I was an army medic. I took ranged wpn focus - for firearms - but obviously they are not in this game. I am also a qualified sword fencing coach, my melee weapons would be rapier, knife, short sword, clubs and maces, in that order.

I am not to sure on that one, I couldn't take the job seriously. Picture your toon sneaking around in a giant cavern and the voice over yelling "Look Out!' and then "wooooooooooooo jumpy are we?" LMAO
LOL....Had something similar to this in another game, NWN. Being a player run world you of course had player run DMs running around unseen. My brother and I played a couple of halfling rogues with the last name of Squirrel, hence the Squirrel Brothers were born.
Long story short, we ended up getting quite a reputation for sneaking past others in a dungeon and looting the chests before they could get to them. Now imagine gaming late at night, your sneaking down a hallway towards some tasty loot when all of a sudden...BAM!!!! There is a loud noise and your dead. Since the DMs could sneak around behind the scenes they would occasionally find us on loot runs and kill us out of the blue for fun. :D They'd always rez us right after but it would be a bit before my heart stopped racing.:o

First thing I thought of was Coyle because I know alot of people that would rather knock me out than deal with me. But after careful consideration I found that I would actually be a soul stone at the bottom of a pool of deep lava. The reason being that I tend to just jump in feet first only to end up getting burned.

You Are A:
Lawful Good Human Wizard (1st Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength- 11
Dexterity- 14
Constitution- 12
Intelligence- 17
Wisdom- 13
Charisma- 13
Alignment:
Lawful Good- A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act.
Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Class:
Wizards- Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks about right. I would've guesstimated slightly lower Dex and maybe Int. Figured it'd be wizards, only other class that even had the potential was Sorcerer. Pretty average so Human is not surprising. Elf was one point behind, which would've been my only other guess. As for alignment, I would've said Chaotic Good, maybe Neutral Good, which were 2 and 1 point behind LG respectively.

Alignment:
True Neutral- A true neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. He doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most true neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil after all, he would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, he's not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. Some true neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run. True neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion. However, true neutral can be a dangerous alignment because it represents apathy, indifference, and a lack of conviction.
Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Class:
Druids- Druids gain power not by ruling nature but by being at one with it. They hate the unnatural, including aberrations or undead, and destroy them where possible. Druids receive divine spells from nature, not the gods, and can gain an array of powers as they gain experience, including the ability to take the shapes of animals. The weapons and armor of a druid are restricted by their traditional oaths, not simply training. A druid's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that they can cast.
i as well had a DM in highschool make a campaign like this where our stats were based on our own and the perception of others - as far as the intel stat is concerned rememer 2nd ed. has max # of languages which is a good guage of INT i think - not how many you speak but rather how many you COULD speak fluently.
- in addition to all of the things on the questionaire i dont think i would carry over to ddo well as in true multicalss form i would have levels that i gained in college as a bouncer/ barbarian unlawful that i have sense forgone and taken levels of monk in. as well took 3 years of fenceing in college as well as 3 years of archery. degree in plant pathology - so i very good working knowledge of - at any time- being able to find at least three things that could poison a person to death. im also 6-4 250 and fairly strong and as well ran a hald marathon this year 13.1 miles. as far as al o fthese things together? idk maybe some sort of bard prestige class? - HA! this thread is fantastic !!

I'm not that smart, though i ain't a fool neither. I'm short of being totally charismatic, though i can talk my way out of sticky situations, and charm the people that fail it's will save. Not a strong or a dexterus guy, sometimes i can take a punch, and i'm not really wise. Stubborn as a bull, and i can focus on the things that i want, from time to time xD

I would be a gimpy permadeath impossible multiclass 28pt flavor build.
With a bit of monk, rogue and wizard (perhaps a melee monk/artificer?). And suffering from acute multiple attribute dependency.
I still need a lot of tomes!

You Are A:
Chaotic Evil Human Rogue (1st Level)
Ability Scores:
Strength- 14
Dexterity- 15
Constitution- 15
Intelligence- 13
Wisdom- 12
Charisma- 12
Alignment:
Chaotic Evil- A chaotic evil character does whatever his greed, hatred, and lust for destruction drive him to do. He is hot-tempered, vicious, arbitrarily violent, and unpredictable. If he is simply out for whatever he can get, he is ruthless and brutal. If he is committed to the spread of evil and chaos, he is even worse. Thankfully, his plans are haphazard, and any groups he joins or forms are poorly organized. Typically, chaotic evil people can be made to work together only by force, and their leader lasts only as long as he can thwart attempts to topple or assassinate him. Chaotic evil is sometimes called demonic because demons are the epitome of chaotic evil. Chaotic evil is the best alignment you can be because combines self-interest and pure freedom. However, chaotic evil can be a dangerous alignment because it represents the destruction not only of beauty and life but also of the order on which beauty and life depend.
Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.
Class:
Rogues- Rogues have little in common with each other. While some - maybe even the majority - are stealthy thieves, many serve as scouts, spies, investigators, diplomats, and simple thugs. Rogues are versatile, adaptable, and skilled at getting what others don't want them to get. While not equal to a fighter in combat, a rogue knows how to hit where it hurts, and a sneak attack can dish out a lot of damage. Rogues also seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to avoiding danger. Experienced rogues develop nearly magical powers and skills as they master the arts of stealth, evasion, and sneak attacks. In addition, while not capable of casting spells on their own, a rogue can sometimes 'fake it' well enough to cast spells from scrolls, activate wands, and use just about any other magic item.
