hey there. im a level 12 tempest and recently decided to buy me a +4 metalline scimitar. my standard gear at the moment are a +3 holy scim of righteous and +3 shoking scim of righteous. i wanted to have the metalline in order to get the invasions tokens faster.

turned out, i dont bypass the damage reduction with metalline.
why is this?

What DR are you looking to bypass? Metalline is a transmuting weapon which will bypass the metal DR's some mobs have. Are you refering to the Flensers.....they have DR Cold Iron and Good, so need a weapon that does both. I am not familiar with the quest, but if it is a red named devil or demon chances are the damage reduction on normal difficulty is 15/good,silver for devils and 15/good,cold iron for demons. This means you must have a Metalline of Pure Good to overcome damage reduction.

a Holy Silver/Cold Iron x of Evil Outsider Bane works beautifully too.

Flametouched Metalline of Evil Outsider Bane can do the job pretty good as well. (yes, Flametouched can come with metalline)

You don't actually need the Holy Silver/Cold Iron parts of that weapon, since one of the features of Bane is that it bypasses the DR of the chosen foe. Note that DR based on weapon type (piercing, slashing, bludgeoning) is not bypassed in this manner.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that Bane weapons work like that in DDO. Anyone else care to enlighten us?

for invaders (fleshrenders, ice flensers and fire reavers) you need cold iron/metalline + holy/pure good. there is a small selection of possible cold iron + holy/pg named drops in invaders. greataxe, rapier, sickle among others.

bane property bypasses nothing.

Renders, Flensers, Reavers need Good+Cold Iron. Hounds need Law (via Axiomatic or True Law). Bane helps bypass nothing...although the bane damage itself ignores DR.

You may have noticed that metalline X of pure good weapons tend to sell for a lot in the auction house. That's because they break any demon/devil DR, as well as other monsters with pure metal DRs like mind flayers (byeshk), iron golems (adamantine), and vampires (silver).

For Invaders! and other quests that feature demons, you want one of the following to break DR:
Holy Cold Iron X of Y
Metalline Flametouched Iron X of Y
Metalline X of Pure Good
Y Cold Iron X of Pure Good

The best possible weapon for demons would be a Holy Burst Cold Iron X of Greater Evil (or Chaotic) Outsider Bane....unless you just vorp them.
