When I try to log on, it gets past the first screen then goes to log on. For the past couple of hours when I have tried to log on when it gets to that point a box pops up and says connection to server failed, then there is a one minute countdown until it tries again, and again, and again. Is anyone else having this problem?

Have you tried rebooting?

I had this happen to me when I installed DDO.
Check you Iexplorer settings. I had my useless exploder set on offline mode, as I´m using firefox. And the whole fricken game wouldn´t connect.
For good measure put the DDO.COM in the secure zone of your IE.

I use Firefox. Everything was working well until:eek: today when the servers went down

Double-check you got no firewall (possibly integrated within Windows) blocking your client?

The game uses I.E.'s global connection settings to connect, if IE can't reach the web neither can the game launcher. Often its just the "Work Offline" option under the file menu is often a culprit but also just make sure it can connect in general as well and isn't incorrectly set to use a proxy server (Tools > Internet Options > Connections "tab" > LAN Settings "button")
IE doesn't have to be the default browser just installed and able to reach the internet.
Also run through the steps here (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2214558&postcount=4) and the connection related ones here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=202636)
If it keeps up though definitely follow up with a support request (http://www.ddo.com/component/content/article/486-tech-ticket) ticket.

The game was working fine yesterday morning. In the evening after the post about log in problems said they were fixed. When I try to start it the first visual screen comes up then it goes to a box says connection failed and starts counting down for 60 sec. I did nothing to the computer between the time it was working and the time it stoped working. Trying the suggestions brings up text different than that displayed and I don't have enough computer knowledge to know whats happening.

I too am having this exact problem. It worked fine this morning, but now i get the countdown....i thought that maybe the servers were down, but i have no real way of knowing as there is no server status available anywhere to my knowledge.
also here is a pic i snipped of the error when hitting community, account, or support tab. http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/725/capturerz.jpg

I'm having a problem logging in too. The game tries to load, but when the turbine symbol comes up, the spinning wheel stops and I get a bunch of different colored squares all over the place. The error I'm getting says dndclient error.
It wasn't doing this before. I'm downloading and usually get the dragon and girl as my first picture when logging in. This is the first time I'm getting the turbine logo and it is this thing that's screwing things up. Anyone know a solution?

Checked for a virus lately?
I´d just unistall the client, download & install the newest one.

How unistalling the client and downloading it again?
I'm sure I have the newest one since I've only started downloading the game this week.

Are you using the Turbine Download Manager? It has the Turbine logo when you start it up.

Yes, I'm using the Turbine Manager.
I've been playing. This problem started after the last download. I've completed the beginning quest to defeat the dragon. I was waiting to download some more stuff so that I can sail off the island. But now I can't even log into the game.
Edit:
It's working now!
Boy, my dwarf ranger is much weaker than my dwarf fighter!
