Hello, I was reading this thread:

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=226582

And I think I miss a couple of things.

First: when I open a chest, I normally see loot reserved for other party members. Is there a way to assign my loot to them?

Second: I have only done a Tempest Spine run till now. Of two end chests, no one had anything interesting in it, but I have not seen any different looting system there. Are non free raids different? And what should I expect? I'd wish to avoid an incorrect behaviour should I ever complete a Raid, what am I expected to do with end chests?

Your loot is your loot but if you wish to assign to someone you can in the chest there is a pull down menu on the loot that yoiu can use. some people will try to convice you other wise but it is your loot, some of which though is better used by some classes and builds then others. Do what you wish and the better players will think nothing of it.

Most raids have a 'Raid' chest that possibly drops a named raid item instead of normal loot.

This loot binds to character (not account, so can not tbe sent to an alt). This loot is yours. Do with it as you please.

Generally, if you can use it, loot it.

If you can't use it, put it up for a roll (/roll d100) and assign it in the chest to the winner.

By now I've done a good number of raids, pulled a few things I could use and were clearly oriented at my class and nobody commented when I looted them.
Pulled a few things I couldn't use, people were happy when I put them up for roll and they generally got snapped up quickly.

However my question is, to all the characters with a shorter blue bar, eg. rangers, paladins (as opposed to sor/wiz/clr/fvs, and please note that I'm not saying the ranger or paladin's blue bar is worthless at all), has anyone ever moaned at you for insta-looting a Torc you personally pulled from the chest?

If this was another MMO I'd be quite sure that I'd get a lot of hate whispers and whining along the lines of "my wizard could have made so much more use of that".
Anyone had any experiences like that?

I didn't see it mentioned here, so:

Tempest Spine is currently the only raid quest in the game that has no so-called "raid loot" (i.e. special named items that bind to character).

Thank you, it's all clear to me.

My view depends a great deal on how well the group has worked together (subjective, I concede).

If the group has done well, I have absolutely no problem reassigning my loot if there is someone in the group that can better use it even if that loot is pretty valuable. I will generally ask if the person wants it just to make sure before I reassign it but not always. My feeling is, if someone else can better use it and therefore the capability of the group is increased by some amount, why not pass on the loot?

If the group has 'had its problems' UNRELATED to just a run of bad luck, then I am much less likely to share the wealth. You just should not reward stupidity.

Also, the new "completionist" mindset can throw me off. Nowhere before a run does someone say, "I'm going for completionist, so I'll be keeping whatever falls for me no matter what and I will also roll for whatever falls for anyone else."

Pretty much the norm is, if you can use it keep it, noone will fault you at all. If you see something that you probably won't use in the next 6 months, wouldn't hurt you in anyone's eyes to put it up for roll. Also, it's not a bad idea to look at named drop loot from raids BEFORE you go in. For instance, in the Subt raids they have a Levik's and Lorrik's set that can drop. Being a cleric I was always going for Lorriks. The Levik's set is nice but since you can't wear both sets at once, it would have done me absolutely no good to pull it for myself. Being familiar with the items that drop and making a little personal "wish list" before hand will make the decisions a bit easier and take a bit of the stress out of the situation.

While everyone here has given more than enough advice on the matter, I just wanted to add my last 2coppers i guess.

And not meant to be preachy (or well...i guess it is), do unto others as you would like others to do unto you. DDO is not as huge a population like some other games and if you may end up raiding with similar people often enough, being a loot-****** may limit your raid invites.

Or if you find you tend to be raiding with all <Guide de Loot ****** a la Completionist> anyway...loot away.

(Re: red text)
There are exceptions to this (Chattering ring, etc.) when the item is so rare that You may never see one again......
