On the other hand, I have noticed a recent pattern that if I say something in response to an offensive remark it is more likely to receive an edit than the offensive remark comming from someone with a recent start date. In that, Aranticus is right.

And yes, he is leaving the forums.

Yup. He's done quite a bit of "community relations" with his build threads/Conversational Chinese etc.....I may not always agree with him, but he is an asset to this community more then 95% (myself included) of the people active on here. This current selective "heavy hand" moderating business is getting old really quickly.....and the occasional snarky comment from T isn't helping. Three running, highly viewed threads that should have been closed by now aren't....
