Why is it that one cannot immitate Gandalf from lotr onto D&D. Gandalf wielded a staff and a sword and he did fine. But NOOOOOOOO, you cannot duel wield a sword and a staff in DDO...It would be cool if you could...

Or we could all go play LoTRO....

Actually I am behind this only because I want to use my Staff of the Petitioner while shield blocking with Light of Darkness. :D

It's because it's really, really hard to use a polearm weapon like a staff with one hand.

If you want to imitate LOTR, go play Turbines other game, LOTRO. The lore-master can dual wield a staff and a sword.

Just 'cause someone's going to mention it eventually...

The feat Monkey Grip would allow that, if it's ever implemented.
It allows characters to use weapons as though they were one size-category larger, with regards to one hand or two hands.
So a medium-sized character (all the PC races in DDO, since they let Halflings be Medium) would be able to use a Large weapon (like a greatsword or quarterstaff) in one hand, at a -2 penalty on all attacks. So yes, you'd be able to dual-wield greatswords.

Might be kinda overpowered in DDO, since attack bonus isn't as important as in some other D&D-based games.

If they ever implement Monkey Grip as a feat my next character will be a Warforged barbarian with two-weapon fighting, monkey grip and over-sized weapon fighting (if they had it) so he will wield two fullblades while raging.

The only way I could see incorporating monkey grip into DDO would be taking a 1/2 STR attack bonus and 1/2 STR damage in both main and off hand. Yes, I know that isn't DnD rules, but DDO must pervert some things to adapt for a real time environment. This would however adapt such things as a caster simply holding two weapons (that would never be swung) or a melee awkwardly swinging two weapons that were never meant to be dual wielded.

As to the OP, Rambo dual wields machine guns.

Edit: thinking about it I'm not sure how much "glancing blows" would effect a feat like monkey grip.

I actually had a long conversation with my old DM about the feat Monkey Grip, and the way it is worded you actually cannot dual wield "Greatswords"

what you can dual wield is Large Longswords. These have the exact same stats as a greatsword, but for purposes (I.E. Kensai) you would have to label them as what they really were. Or at least thats how we handled it. Its exactly what the feat reads anyway.

DDO would HAVE to allow it to make greatswords and axes and mauls dual wieldable, since they have no "larger" weapons.
