So my nephew ran a quest solo yesterday with a Hireling, he told me how much this hireling kicked ass and couldn't keep up on the kill count. So then we team up, 3 of us all with a hireling. What he noticed was how much more passive and how much harder it was for them to do orders. He said when solo he didn't even have to give the hireling orders to attack with magic, they just did aggressively. But in the group he was much more passive.

I never knew about this because I was always in a larger group when I brought a hireling out. I ran one solo today and they do seem more responsive in a solo group then in a larger one. Anyone else seen this to agree or disagree?

I'm still pretty convinced to order your hireling to use a spell you need to immediately target an enemy right after you order the command to have it work more often then not.

Hirelings have options... you can order them to be aggressive or be more passive, you can order them to guard a person or place and you can also control them immediately - cast x or y, intimidate... etc...

Yes I know that. Beyond that, the game within a game. The Hirelings are known to have response issues.

No joke. I do normal instances on my fighter with a cleric hireling and when the fight gets tough, they seem to STOP HEALING all together. I have to do extreme mico managing while trying to fight a boss and his mobs just stay alive. If I don't, mr. cleric runs in and starts swingin' his little mace while I die (unless I micro manage hardecore).

What i would like to see is better AI control. Take the cleric for instance, if put on defensive another option should be made available along the lines of Defensive Melee and Defensive Healing. same with offensive: Offensive Melee or Offensive Magic.
