View Full Version : Named item drop rates

Has there ever been any analysis on the drop rates of named items such as:
Spectral Gloves
Bloodstone
DoD
DoQ
DoC
Boots of the Innocent
Firestorm Greaves
Icy Raiment
Cloak of Ice
etc, etc,
(Getting fed up of repeat running LotD, Cursed Crypt, OOB)

The drop rates are very random. There are literally people that can pull the items every 5 or 6 run, while with other it can take them 100 runs to pull 1.

Anectdotal but noteworthy; first pulls on a new toon always seem to be the best. My first pulls on a new server have yielded me firestorm greaves, boots of the innocent, ring of spell storing. My first two pulls ever from slavers were rez rings on consecutive runs (before they were exclusive).
Ddo seems to punish us named loot farmers, although it may just be that probability catches up with us. It has never stopped me though and its a good time sink.

You know it's funny you write that both times that I've pulled a bloodstone this has been TRUE. Coincidence maybe but worth a look at.

I didn't realize they made these exclusive, time to track down a new ring and image :)

It doesn't mean drop rates are any random. This would happen with a fixed drop rate too (which is most likely what's implemented).
In my own limited experience: spectral gloves are not too hard to get, bloodstone and docent of defiance are a pita, boots of the innocent are quite rare too, and I have no experience with the other ones.
Of course this may just be my own luck and be unrelated to the actual loot drops ;)
I usually buy this kind of stuff off AH since I hate such grinds. Except of course you can't buy Icy Rainments, which is why I'll never get one...

for me:
Spectral, 1 in about 20 runs
Bloodstone, 2 in about 20-25 runs (two in the same chest when i was 2man farming)
Ring of spellstoring, 1 in about 35 runs
Greaves, 0 in about 40 runs
Docent of Defiance, 1 in about 40 runs (found about 3-4 cloak of curses, and every other named item from the crypt before this)
Scourge Choker, 0 in about 40 runs (ended up buying it...)
Planar Gird, 1 in about 8 runs (two in the same chest)
Guard Mask, 0 in about 20 runs
Carnifex, 0 in about 40 runs... <- very bitter about this, farming deleras is a huge pain but its the only weapon im gonna be using when i reincarnate :)
until we get concrete statistics, take all of this with a grain of salt :)
- wanted to point out the docent of quickening is pretty much trash, alacrity doesnt stack with haste, and it's 5% less attack speed anyways (contrary to popular belief?) - it gets even more useless towards endgame, when a dt docent or dod would net you far greater benefits

I'd say either you are exceptionally lucky or I am exceptionally unlucky. I've pulled one Bloodstone (in Europe) from
opening those chests well over 200 times.

Pulled a scourge choker on my first ever run (in Europe). I've pulled nothing on Thelanis yet and boy am I sick
of the cursed crypt ;-). Got Carnifex though!

It's for my FvS. Haste currently comes in pots only - I mostly solo as RL intrudes too much on gaming. I find Hirelings
too braindead to even bother with the hassle.

Agreed for some reason it seems like there is an increased chance for a particular toon to pull a named item on the first try. Not sure if this is perception or not... We can only guess at drop rates.. dice rolls are fickle, and computer generated dice rolls are even more so.

Now that is hilarious, too bad I ran out of rep for today.

Bloodstone: 0 in ~30 runs
Spellstoring: 0 in ~25 runs.
Planar Gird: 1 in ~20 runs
Chaosguarde: 1 in ~20 runs.
Haven't really run anything else.

A friend pulled a bloodstone on his very first attempt. A week later he did the same thing on a different character.
He also pulled beholder optic nerves on consecutive runs the first two times he ran Invaders.

After reading all of this: do I understand correctly that I can expect difficulties while farming particular items? I've just killed Admiral Ancker in Three Barrel Cove and that was the very first time I've ever met him there. No named item in 'his' chest, though :-/ I wanted to get a nice armor for my low level toon ;-)

Yes. By the time you have that item you're way past level 4, tho there are some very nice items that drop there.
What helps the farming is doing the quests so you can teleport and run to a spawn spot quickly.

The best way to get a named item you want from a chest is to switch to a character whose class has absolutely no use for it. Never fails.
Chest loot is geared to give scepters to fighters and bastard swords to wizards and the like.

Icy Rainments, .
? It's a 10 minute run for Garamols' chest in sub-t, heck get a few mace of the wraith while youre there.
