View Full Version : Rogue Feats, Special Abilities

Directly from the D&D PHb:

Special Abilities: On attaining 10th level, and at every three levels thereafter, a rogue gains a special ability of their choice.

Feat: A rogue may gain a bonus feat in place of a special ability.

Why is this still not in the game?

Wizards now have the ability to take non-meta-magic feats for their bonus feats.

Monks can take additional feats for their bonus feats as of this update.

I think it's about time rogues get an update, don't you?

Not entirely ready to say if it's good or bad yet...but I do feel like it'd open up a ton of neat Rogue build options...the fact that they don't open up until higher levels prevents the normal splash benefit of bonus Feats, which is cool. Probably a good way to reward 10+ levels of Rogue, especially with that capstone, hehe.

Well 2 of them will almost always be taken anyways , Improved evasion and Sinster strikes. Quite a few will take Slippery mind because that extra chance on enchantment based spells is always useful hehe. Skill mastery is just under that and Dodge roll is probbly taken just as often as a rogue going to level 20 pure hehe.

mainly cause it's a rogue SPECIALTY feat. Why can't FvS take any feat, instead of their faith feats?

Errr...because the source material says they can't?

DDO made a diversion from the source rules here, OP is just asking for a return to it. Certainly things have changed to fit the MMORPG system, but source rules at least provide some basic justification.

Crippling Strike is pretty awesome, I agree on that...but I could easily see using the other three to implement some other build choices.

Good idea. I know that some Rogues after Improved Evasion and Crippling Strike would consider a regular feat better then the rest of the rogue list.

Let's get a move to the suggestion forum T.

A long time ago the dev that created the selectable rogue feats (originally the system picked which one you got for you by level) said that they knew the rules and would like to allow it to be "any feat" but that there was a technical problem that they would have to get back to one day. I guess one day never arrived.

Rogues, like elves, are iconic...there will always be people playing them regardless of how they perform. So, when the numbers are tabulated by Turbine to sort out which class gets a buff, they'll end up low on that list.

No squeak, no grease.

Ha ha. I imagine you've read more forum posts then I... and I've read enough to know that isn't true on these forums.

Everyone squeaks on the forums, about everything. Devs are busy people; if your argument is an iron clad no-brainer, then sure, they'll pick up on it.

I find it more likely that they track database numbers more, tho.
