View Full Version : Char name misspelled after True Reincarnation

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I just true reincarnated a character that I originally had back on the now extinct Riedra server. My character's name had "-Riedra" after it. After the TR, it became "-riedr"

To be honest, I felt it was kind of cool to have "<name>-Riedra" floating above my character and part of my decision to TR this character was to enjoy the effect of the hyphenated name with the tr wings. Now I have a character with nonsense for a name <name>-riedr (instead of <name>-Riedra).

Yes it's a little thing, but I have also just started wondering if all the auctions that I had posted before the TR will make it back through the mail since those were posted under <name>-Riedra and not <name>-riedr. I am still on Korthos and have to decide if I want to forfeit all the lowbie quests in order to check on my mail/auctions.

I have tried submitting a help ticket, but it appears that portion of the in game service has been down (for 2 days now) due to web maintenance.

might have something to do with the 13 character lenght and after the merge your name had 14 characters with the serveraddon and got now corrected back to 13 characters

(the actual character number might varie, but you get what i mean)

That is it, people who named themselves with rename tokens have the same issue (which tell you the 13 char name limit it artificial).

The thing is Turbine made a contract trading real cash for a TR which included a statement that your name was going to be kept through the TR process. Either they have to correct the disclosure or honor the contract and offer people rename tokens have have this happen.

Long ago, when they merged the servers, everyone who had "-<server name>" after their name got a free rename token. Most people who came back after some time had no idea they had such a token, the information was available when the merge occured, and shortly after, but all who got their name changed have it and still have it. I have no idea if this token survived with your TR, but if it did, you should still have it, and maybe you can use it to get back the "-Riedra" in your name.

I tried out of curiosity to see if I could create a new character using the same number of alphanumeric spaces as my TR'd character but ran out of space the second to last letter. My TR's character originally had a name with 6 letters. With the addition of the hypenated server name, it rose to 13. Now it stands at 12.

This character actually merged with a different server twice now. The first time it merged (2007 I think) I never got a rename token. I left overseas for alomost 1 1/2 years and when I got back, discovered my characters on yet another server -Khyber. To be honest, this is the first time I have ever heard of a Token to rename a character. I have not found anything like that in my character inv's/bank accounts, nor have I found anything referencing this on my Turbine account page.

I seriously don't think I would have TR'd this particular character had I known the name would be screwed up afterwards.

But then again, there is no reference to this possiblity in the article about TR or during the in-game process, so how could I have known?

The rename token was just a free name change which uses the ui commands. I believe it is something like /changename "new name" or something close someone that used their rename might know for sure what the command is. And this isn't well known at all for people that come back after the server merge. They only really pushed this and made it know for a month or two.

Your characters had only been merged once, but when they merged characters from 3 servers into one (Riedra, Aundair and Khyber into the present Khyber) all character who havn't logged in for more than 6 months were subject to lose their names, that's why you can see -Khyber for people who were originally on Khyber, -Aundair and -Riedra for the two other servers.

Like Juni said, the rename token is only the /changename command that is available for you to use once in your UI, but there's nothing to tell you anything about this. You won't find anything in your inventories or bank, and no icons will inform you about this like free feat change rogues recieved, it's there, and available, bot you have to know about it.

I went in game and to try /changename <name>, and apparently that is one way to solve it at my expense, but have a question...

Let's say my character's original name was Big Johnson. After the merge to Khyber, it became Big-Riedra Johnson. After true reincarnation it became Big-riedr Johnson. If I change name to, let's say Lulu, will the final character name be Lulu, or Lulu Johnson?-since in parties, in group lists, and for sending mail, the first name matters only (and even in character creation, only the first name has to be unique).

In the meanwhile, I have discovered that trying to send mail to Big-riedr doesn't work. I have to enter in the previous name of Big-Riedra. So unless I specifically tell a friend about having to add an "a", I won't get mail. And if I send mail from that character, it shows as having come from Big-riedr, not Big-Riedra which makes it even more confusing for recipients who may wish to send the items or other item back to that character.

It seems internally, my character is still acknowledged to some degree by the previous name.

Worse part is, I still can't get a resolution on this (not even a reply from anyone at Turbine)...

Alas, it seems I am stuck with the name (for now).

I gave in and tried to use the /changename and /changesurname commands and got the message "Error: you do not currently have any rename credits"

Just great.

Just been informed there is an upcoming fix/remedy to the TR name issue. Yay!

Foiled again! It seems that the help ticket I submitted on this website (since the in-game help function is out of service at the moment) has been reviewed and I have been advised that this is a matter for in-game help. Apparently the left hand doesn't know that the right hand is broken....
