Hello,

No answer from technical support for 4 days ! :-((((((

But the error seems to arrive from the server : "The underlying connection was closed: The server committed an HTTP protocol violation."

The question is : " DOES TURBINE & WOTC WANT MORE PLAYERS ?" DDO is not the only game in the world ! If they don't want me to play (and perhaps to subcribe why not), no problem, I'll look another game :-((

That error is generally proxy based, check Internet Explorer's settings:
Open IE and click on Tools > Internet Options > Connections (tab) > LAN Settings (button) and see if "use a proxy server" is selected. Run the settings there by your ISP if they're not needed try disabling it, clicking ok and then rerunning the game to test.

I would also give the steps here (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2214558&postcount=4) and the connection related ones here (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=501282&postcount=1) a run-through, if you haven't yet though I would definitely recommend that you open a support ticket (http://www.ddo.com/component/content/article/486-tech-ticket), troubleshooting connection issues tends to be alot more in-depth than can be done on the forums.

THANKS a lot !

I've waited for too many days for this answer but, at least, it solves my problem.
Effectively, I've a proxy set by a Parental Control Program.

Disabling it and all is OK !!

I cannot connect.

Was working fine although occassionaly froze whole PC before the downtime of 20th Oct 2010. Now trashed. I have not changed anything on my PC and my internet is operating fine. I have tried pretty much everything suggested on knowledge base and forums to no avail.

When i click on 'support' i get:
system.NullReferenceException: object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at com.turbine.launcher.Forms.Mainform.supportButton_ Click(object sender,EventArgs e)
at System.Window.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e)
at System.Window.Forms.ControlButton.OnClick(EventArg s e)
at System.Window.Froms.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs e

etc etc etc...

crazy nonsense to me...

hope you can sort soon as i have invested time and money in a character on line that i do not wish to loose because of technical difficulties which are nothing to do with me...

I was having a similar problem, wouldn't let me even update. I'd open the launcher and it gave some error about not being able to connect to the remote server.

Went into Internet Explorer like Mirthgar said, unchecked use proxy server, hit ok, ran the launcher, ran the update just fine, and i'm back in business.

Thanks!
