If a character has things like tharne's goggles, bloodstone, etc - I would assume they could also manage to acquire some GFL and fortification - instead of running around on a 0% fortified 160HP rogue - yes?
If a character reaches level 20 and literally gets oneshot by nearly every mob they fight - they might realize they are doing something wrong - yes?
I'm just really trying to understand where some of these folks are coming from. Are these joke characters or do they really not realize how bad they are failing.

Not long ago I was running with a L7 sorc who had I think it was 60 HP (drow) and no fort. He died, A LOT and when I complained he said "sorcs are SUPPOSED to be squishy and die a lot".
So OP, I think we just have some ill informed players out there....

I would believe that.. Not everyone played PnP DnD before, and even if they did they might not have been to the forums to find out what might be good gear, or heck even know of where to get good items. Not everyone starts playing this game knowing 100% of everything that is to be known, and well the documention.. ok lets not bring up documentation there is already enough threads on that one. Some folks like to just get online and play, not read forums for ever trying to figure out what is the best. My only advice is since you seemed to "inspect" that character and see what is lacking, why not offer that person some helpful advice like hey you know there is an orchard quest for the mino's legon helm that can give you heavy fortifcation and 20 hitpoints, hey you know you mihgt want to respec one of your feats so that you can pick up toughness and also take the corisponding racial enhancements for toughness. Hey starting a character with 10 con really isn't a good idea, you won't have the hitpoints to really survive. Type of things.

I think there are those that simply don't realize the importance of fortification. There may be a few that simply don't know anything about it because its often assumed that one has a fort item and really isn't discussed further. There's lots of people looking for +search, umd, ect...items, but I don't see people looking for fort items at all. This may be the case for those people getting one shotted. I'm thinking that there may be some lvl 20's out there that don't even know where the orchard is, soI can see someone forgetting or not knowing about fort items. I agree though, fort is a MUST and its crazy to see high lvl toons without it.

Fortification has been one of the top three things I look for in devices from the outset and one of the reasons warforged are so preferable for fighters in the early days when kobolds seem to have magic luck with critical hits. The tapestry runs are well worth it for the helmet until you can craft a Mineral II helmet at the Shroud.

Min2 helmet and loose 20hp? why? you can go with other spots for a shoud hp item and keep the Minos on...

Because 20hp in and of itself at endgame doesn't even mean one attack swing. It becomes a number for ego only.
Mind you what I stated. In and of itself. If you are actually combining it, with a GFL, and a HP shroud item. (doesn't have to be min 2) then you have a combo worth keeping it around.

Let's (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?p=2480046#post2480046) think about random generated belts and such are not always a pretty thing on the AH people jumping at... often they sport some silly +1 con or **** on them and usually higher level then when heavy fort starts to become needed...
Then we have...
Electric Haze,
Ancient Band,
Full Plate of the Defender,
Docent of Defense,
Nightforge Gorget, (easy but tucked far away from sight - many vets never go here anymore)
Minos Legens (easy)
or shroud crafted (pretty heavy farming, especially when one is looking at all the other things they may need)
or SoS DT... (Extreme heavy farming in near end game quests)
Of the guarenteed item slots only the Nightforge sits available to every F2P the rest is restricted unless they buy the packages... i.e. The minos which is an easiest to have comes from the necropolis and not neccessarily accessable to everyone... the rest is farming for raid loot...
Now aside from newbies - not being informed - also many will have a restricted access... i.e. not every f2p who buys the vale or sub would have bought necropolis. Fact is if they asked a Vet many of them would push them towards the shroud for the crafting... yet do we know, with shard drop and ingredient drop dependancies ... they are not crafting anything without running all the vales and shrouding at least 5-15 times.
If a character has things like tharne's goggles, bloodstone, etc - I would assume they could also manage to acquire some GFL and fortification - instead of running around on a 0% fortified 160HP rogue - yes?
We're in month five since the gates openned and the dams broke... it is quite understandable there are level 20's with no fort and are sporting tharne's goggles, bloodstone, and raid loot... The Veterans run them thru helping them get xp and gear, are you personally pulling these people through quests where heavy fort items drop? .... How many of us vip's are actually taking their hands and gearing them up?
I will be the first to admit - I buck the system! - I build a new character and I'll go farm taps out of the orchard in an hour on my cappeds for that little level 1 which is too small to even use it yet... also I build a Nightforge at that time if it's going to be a melee.

If your very first try at a character gets you to level 20, why would you think you did something wrong?
Everything is relative. A player cannot know "bad" unless he has a "good" to compare against.

dude that guy is a server treasure
shut up.
I take him in shrouds and tell the clerics not to heal him more than any other player to see how often he'll die.
The high score so far is .. high.

Yeah but if they have the tharnes set bloodstones and the like and still no heavy fort thats an awful lot of being carried by other players. Come on I play elves I love them they maybe squishy to some but even I know that if your going to make squishies be smart enough to put heavy fort on them. Nothing says gimp like being one shotted by a troll at level 20 because "uh I didnt know I was supposed to fortify myself"
I wont even get on the hp kick because all the hit points in the world wont save ya if you play stupid and dont have a dedicated healer to save your butt. But by the time you reach GH someone would have had to mention at least a few times how important heavy fort is on anyone.
man alive this stuff makes my mind boggle.

Ive found he doesnt seem to use voice, so 'stop raising him noobs let me carry the stone' is a viable technique.

That was my plan, being the only cleric. Told the 2 people that had gone back with me to get him to just grab the stone and go, and one of them raised him.

It's not who you are thinking of.
For the fortification - ya, in theory, I could potentially see that maybe they just never realized thought about it. Fortification only starts dropping in the Kobolds New Ringleader.
The HP is amazing though. False life items also start dropping on what korthos island - but at cap you aren't wearing any? And con4 was the best you could come up with?
What I don't buy is that if it's their first toon it's not possible for them to realize how bad they are. If they solo only - yes. If they group ever, though, they have to realize that they are spending their time dead, and no one else is. I don't think this build exactly had the capacity to solo to 20.

Wait wait, this is F2P? Where is the quest for this located? I picked up a planar gird a couple nights ago and lost what little Fort I had (light) so I am genuinely interested in this nightforge thingamajig. Current lv11. Thanks.

Black Anvil Mines or BAM for short. Quest name is relic of sovereign past. Pick it up in house D and do it in House K.
