What if everything you did in life required a die roll according to DnD rules

Want a raise from your boss

Heh man, I've been working my tail off, and I deserve a raise:

Roll 1d20

Ok, Boss DC 30, my haggle skill plus charisma modifier and roll....**** a 4...No raise for Joo

Your driving down the road doing twice the speedlimit....some dumbarse cuts you off...roll a D20

19...wohooo avoided the accident...but **** a cop saw me ...damned low haggle skill

Wife is ****ed you forgot your anniversary again...roll a D10 for initiative...

Then this world would not be recognizable. It'll be very alien.

Whenever anyone did anything, they'd have a 1/20 chace of killing themselves somehow...

...So sayeth the Funk...

The world would stay the same. You might add the die rolls, but you forget the modifiers. It all balances out in the end.

I already look at the world that way so not much would change. Now if it had d20 and automatic success/fail on 20's/1's then THAT would certainly change some things. For starters I'd be asking for a raise at work every 5 minutes...gotta roll a 20 eventually. ;)

Yeah, but then wouldnt you need to roll for a reaction check every subsequent time. Unless you roll that 20 fast there's a good chance he could become hostile and attack...well, depending on his alignment.

If we did, middle management would decide the die type and they'd specify 1dPi with a crit range of 1/1d√-1.

OMG dude... the world is like DnD. You ever used the restroom and rolled a 1? You ever use that same restroom and crack the porcelain with a 20? You hear about people all the time with insanely high attribute modifiers that clearly have a major dump stats. example. Nerds with Int have little to no CHR/STR. Buff bastards with str have lil to no INT WIS, or CHR. When your spitting game at someone, no matter how Charismatic one is is it not still possible to **** up and roll a 1? OMG RL is soooo much like DnD. Just go to your nearest walmart and watch my friend, watch. You'll see CR:30 ogres and CR:0.25 kobolds :D mages, fighters, pali's, and clerics. Our workplace is our dungeon :) our homes are our taverns.

It's a diplomacy check, not attack roll, so you wouldn't stab yourself. Also, 1 is not an automatic failure for skill checks. Failing skill by 5 or more might result in a demotion though.

I think my boss would be upset that I brought a guy with a fiddle into his office trying to inspire me with competance... on second thought... he'd probably just hire the bard.

I guess it would make warfare interesting too. I mean would there be whole divisions of highly trained die rollers in command and control centers rolling for successful landings in a amphibious assault?

Or would each soldier have to wipe a flat spot on a beachhead to roll a d20 before he fires his m16? Or what about when someone fires back? Does the bullet stop in mid air until you roll for a reflex save? God makes you roll...

I remember being at Gen Con a few years back with all the SCA and LARPs people hanging out in a room and dueling each other. One of the guys is talking with a group of friends and explaining some fight (either about himself or something he saw). The whole room seems to be practically watching this guy talking the whole time. So the guy is acting out this fight and proceeds to do a spinning heel kick. Upon coming around with his leg, he throws off his center of gravity and takes his other planting leg out and ends up landing flat on his back. As he gets up and brushes himself off acting all cool like doing it, I say, "So that's what rolling a 1 looks like".

Endless laugher soon errupts afterwards as I watch the guy try to find a corner to hide in.... :)

I rolled a 20 on my diplomacy check... :D
