Yay, my first post!
Look for the gates near to where the general trader is - there's a whole wilderness out there - talk to everyone in the area with a chalice over their heads to pick up quests, and once through the gate go up the path and talk to the guy on the rocks to your left. Hope that helps!

Also, you can repeat quests.

I tried to go through the gate and it wouldnt let me. The gaurd said he "hadnt gotten word from his father yet, to let me through, and it wont let me do any other quests.

You should be able to do the other quests. Did you talk to the quest giver?
Talk to every npc with a gold chalice over their head.

Did you talk to Sigmund after completing the collaborator quest to get your end reward?
If so, something is odd there. After completing the Collaborator and collecting your end reward from Sigmund, you will need to speak with Ursa, near the gate. You should be able to venture into the wilderness area at taht point.
Good luck. :)

Also make sure you've done the other three Village Quests (Cannith Crystal, The Storehouse Secret and Heyton's Rest) before you do the Collaborator.

Did you talk to the general vendor. He will give you a tasty ham.
I got stuck and had to do that.
I don't know why he needed to talk to me but after I did it cleared things up and I was able to proceed.
I thought that was kind of goofy but computers do the strangest things sometimes.

I think you have to talk to the blond next to the gate... just run around and talk to every npc... cant do anything wrong there.

As I recall, the Heyton's Rest quest in the cemetery was a rather key quest. In Heyton's Rest, you learn that the missing Lars Heyton is not in town. Finding him becomes a key point, because he points you to another NPC, which eventually gets you to the Misery Peak quest, which is your ticket out of Korthos Village and to the main game city of Stormreach.
The bar-tender directed you to his daughter (edit: or was that sister? I forget), Kaja Bauerdatter, who's hanging out in the cemetery to start you on Heyton's Rest. (The odd places these teens choose to hang out in!) After that, he directs you to someone at the gate, Ursa Jernsvard, who supposedly spotted Lars out of town somewhere. Other key townsmen - the mayor, one of the folk hanging out at the docks, etc. - give you other out-of-town quests, and there's a couple of NPCs outside the gate that give you quests as well. However, until he gives you the OK to speak to Ursa (in other words, until you've completed Heyton's Rest), they won't let you out of the gate and they won't give you the beyond-gate quests.
It's worthwhile to do all the quests before doing Misery Peak and leaving the village because some of the quest rewards are quite helpful for low-level characters.
Add: remember that after a quest, you have to go back to the person who gave you the quest to get the reward and trigger the quest as finished. If you completed the Heyton's Rest quest but did not go back to talk to Kaja after, or talked to Kaja but did not then talk to the bartender as instructed by Kaja, the game thinks you still haven't completed the quest and won't let you progress to the Redemption quest.

Grab the new quests in town, some of them give rather detailed directions.

Usually yes, but if in a series (chain) of quests it will reset to the first one.

If I am at the little camp with the random general vendor, am I getting closer to Lars Heyton? (the camp is by/in the Cannith Ruins)

Post what server and your name so one of us can come help you. It would be a lot easy to show you in game than to play tag on the forums.
Edit: I take it your in the wilderness already?
