View Full Version : Cut the froobs some slack

Make it a New Year resolution.
I am posting this because I saw some pretty nasty froob hate this morning.
Some guy was trying to sell a +3 khopesh on the trade channel. I know that to most players it is annoying to see what they deem as vendor trash scrolling down the trade channel.
But the snide, nasty comments that this guy got for that were way over the line. And they were by a player that I know has been playing for a good amount of time... so it was not froob on froob crime. Why would you want to make someone feel like that?
I've been seeing more and more of this lately, and I think it sucks.
The guy is new. He is just trying to figure out what is going on in the game. We want him to continue playing, don't we?

Then report that player for harrasment and get over it.
I tend to ignore trade channel as what I want comes few and far between.

So I think you vets should be patient with us. You too were once froobs, just explain that nobody actually wants the kopesh, and that this kind of stuff should be sold to vendors, not players. This way anybody who reads these helpful answers will never have to ask this kind of a question again, which in turn means less annoying froobs and questions (which is what you vets want, I presume).

many vets have been very patient. i once let a newbie who was spamming trade for +1 longsword know that the longsword isnt really worth the price he was quoting and also repeatly posting the same stuff is consider spamming
i got a retort full of expletives saying that if i'm not buying then i should shut up and that he can post anything he wants spamming or not. i duly reported him

It's not a matter of cutting them slack, it's a matter of this being vast undertakings with half vast ideas. The bulk of the F2P people are entirely unfamiliar with Turbine NOT doing things that make the remotest sense, much less doing things on demand, and DDO's resultant skewed scheme. What we're getting from the froobs is a massive magnification of everything we vets went through, all our reactions, our annoyances, our frustrations, our misunderstandings... F2P is a prescription for seeing the reinvention of the wheel a thousand times over every day.
It's like the cast of Cube getting near to the end, and instead fifty more people are tossed in and all the characters who'd already been through it spend the rest of the movie going, "we know, we know." I'm nice and say nothing. I ignore the chatter silliness. However, Turbine has just instigated an increase in players who are NOT given to understanding how things have been and probably will remain around here. So we get aggravation, AND Turbine slits the throat of DnD by showing a whole new bunch of people how slow and clunky their way of doing things is compared to pretty much every other company.

I've found that turning off Gen Chat and the Trade Channel helps in curbing my frustrations somewhat - and I can focus on helping newer players who are in the group with me. One on one, most newer players show a desire to learn the game. But, when faced with the cacophonous barrage that has become Gen/Trade Chat - I rapidly run out of not only patience and a desire to help, but also my desire to be logged in. I can't answer a question only to see the same one asked not five seconds later anymore.
/advice is almost as bad, and I'm probably a week or so away from killing that one too.
There is never any call for abusive treatment of new players. To me, that goes beyond a plea for patience... But, I'll keep teaching and helping folks in my groups. But there is no way in hell I'm going to reenter Gen and Trade chat.

Actually, I have never been a froob. I was a newb once, and at times I am still occasionally newbish (usually the level is directly proportional to number of beers consumed), but I have never been a froob.
Newbs do not make me angry. Questions do not make me angry. Ignorance does not make me angry. Persistent idiocy makes my hair hurt.

Actually, all of us vets were never froobs, we paid to play the game from day 1.
Newbs are ok for the most part, when dealt with in limited quantities, although the quality can affect this either way.
Like Arlith, questions and ignorance don't bother me. Unlike Arlith, persistant idiocy doesn't make my hair hurt, it makes me want to toss a tactical nuclear device into the gene pool.

What category do I fall in being an F2P who was previously a subscriber on a different account, beta tested the F2P model, and now apparenlty has a F2P and a Premium account? Am I a Froob because of my F2P nature?

Im not anti froob I wish I could convey this for others but speaking for myself I do not hate the free to play community. I do not think of them as free loaders I think of them as free advertisement because they in turn (well many of them) will go and tell others about the game. And many who like the game at least become premium.
My problem has always been with dumbarses or NOOBs as they are called. Their is a big difference between a Newbie and a Noob a Noob will never learn a newbie is new to everything and deserves a chance to learn.
Noobs may have been around since almost day one and wont change. When you see me rant against the share plz mentality I always shake my head because many think im targeting new players and you know what? Ive met more new players who get annoyed at being shared off the bat then thankful to some people actually do want to learn to play this game and they get my utmost respect.
But noob someone who joins sits on the game just to spam general chat whether they are new and have no respect for the game or just a bored vet who thinks "meh what else is there to do?" is annoying. Ones who join a group with the lfm clearly stating something and then not bringing anything to the group but a headache.
So even if there are some long term ddo players (wont call myself a vet not been around that long and vets to me are war heroes) That hate free players im not one of them. Once again I hate dumbarses and those come in any form free or paid.
