View Full Version : Alias not working completely

First, the built-in alias don't work. Typing ;loc and ;target result in my character saying ;loc and ;target.

Secondly, there seems to be very limited functionality of alias. You can make an alias to have your character say something but cannot have an emote tied to alias. I even tried the example from the knowledge base.

/alias ;1 /sheathe

Results in my character saying "/sheathe"

I had just started playing with aliases and I thought some of them had worked. I think this is a very valuable ability to foster better communications with groups. I specifically wanted to alias the stop emote while saying there is a trap ahead. Its a lot easier to type a couple of keystrokes to warn everyone before they stumble into it than to try and type faster than they can walk into trouble.

Did the developers strip even the ability to have an emote as part of alias? I didn't see anything in the release notes (or known issues). I know there is concern about making macros to automate certain tasks, but not being able to emote is a bit much I think.

The only time I see people use emotes is when they are bored waiting for other players. I would love to see people be able to use them for more immerse roleplay. Heck, even alias ;lol /laugh would be nice.

That doesn't seem right.

I've made aliases before like

/alias ;1 /angry flips you the bird.

Which results in the /angry emote playing, with the words

(emote): Cedwin flips you the bird.

As far as the ;target, I don't think that has ever worked.

Just tested it in game.

/alias ;1 /sit

Works fine. ;1 <enter> causes me to /sit

;loc returns a string table error, and ;target just plain doesn't work.

You can, however, target someone or something and do an emote, and it will put that name in the emote text.

Thanks for the response.

Very odd indeed. I just tried /alias ;1 /sit. I don't sit, I say "/sit". If I type /sit I sit properly.

Well, I tried a validate and repair to no avail. I still can't alias an emote.

I'm a premium player on Thelanis if it makes a difference. Anyone got any ideas?

I've tried clearing the alias list--no joy.

Odd I just tried another machine (same account)--no joy.

Not sure what's going on there, you could submit a bug report in game, or open a trouble ticket, but they will probably just tell you to submit a bug report.

You tried "/alias clear" and then "/alias list" to make sure everything was gone?

I contacted support. Apparently, this is a known issue despite not being listed in the "known issues" of the release notes.

Yeah, there are quite a few of those. I think if they added every known issue to the known issues page, it would be 8 or 9 pages long, so they keep it simple, and only put the major issues on there.

Still a known issue i take it?

i tried making an alias to activate an ability on the 3rd slot of my 5th shortcut bar and saying: "Bladesworn Transformation, i am immune to healing spells for 2m30s"

but i couldn't do it.

Could anyone explain to me how its done? Or if its even possible?

Unfortunately  there have been problems with them for a long time....

an excerpt from
Aliases & You ( Text Macros ) (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2350419)
"To clarify with an Example say you have an alias ";s" that simply just does /sit - in the default chat window you type ";s" and it performs the emote as expected but the same alias command does not get parsed correctly in any other window output stream - it prints out "/sit" it does not perform the emote."

So alias commands work but alias macros with emotes don't work in every chat window ( or based on your particular window's output text type )
Maybe that is your issue?
