Downloaded DDO this weekend on Saturday night. Did the one that lets you play while it's finishing. Made a toon, played for a couple hours Saturday night, was laggy but not too irritating. Sunday night, played again for about 6 hours. Was a bit more laggy than on Saturday, and began to have the screen go all fuzzy on me. A couple times an hour all the graphics on the screen would just wig out, but when I would Alt+Tab out and back in, it would clear itself up and I could continue playing. Then I decided to make another toon and try something different. After logging out, I could not get the game to stop lagging long enough to even get to the skills screen. Once it froze up a couple of times, the graphics would go all wonky again and when I would Alt+Tab out, my desktop graphics would be off colored and larger than my settings. I would then get an error message that my "nv4_display.dll is not running normally." I would have to restart my computer to get this error to clear. When I came back on it would say that windows had to shut down after a serious error and wanted me to send a report.

Since then I have downloaded the latest drivers for my vid card, uninstalled and reinstalled all new drivers for my vid card. Tried to turn the settings down on my vid card and in game. Uninstalled and reinstalled DDO, first the high res version, then the standard res version.

Nothing. I can't get the game to work now and I have no idea why. I have a GeForce 9800 GTX+ with 256 megs of ram, Intel Core2 Duo motherboard, and 3.5 gigs of ram.

There is not another MMORPG out there that even makes my system heat up when I run them on the highest settings. So *** is going on with this one?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Especially since I purchased points to buy the monk class and the 32 point creation, it would really suck not to be able to get this figured out.

The last time I saw that issue it was from a stick of RAM going bad.

Is there a way to check that other than just unplugging and replugging the sticks to see if that's the case?

You could run a mem test, but the good ones require that you make a boot disc. It would probably be easier to just unplug one stick at a time and try it out.

At this point, I'd pi55 on a spark plug if I thought it would do any good. Thanx for the advice.

Well if the game was working, and then started acting weird, then you had display errors, now it doesn't work at all, it's definately hardware related. Software doesn't tend to "get worse" over time the way you described. Hopefully it's not your video card, and just one of the sticks of ram.

Well, I put my old video card back in and it runs fine for now. I've only had my new one for about 5 months so hopefully the warranty will cover it and I can get a replacement.

That sucks, best of luck to you.

Sounds like you fried your video card to me.

But don't feel bad, your video card sounds underpowered for DDO anyway. 256MB of video memory is a bit on the low side.

Ah, looks like you figured this out already. GL.

Actually I was mistaken about my vid card ram, it was 1024.

Much better. I was actually a bit curious as to why a 9800 would come with 256, that just didn't sound right (after all, the 8800GT came with 512).
