Which wizard spell you should choose when leveling up?

For wizard, we can inscribe spells from scroll. But not every scroll is available in the market. The following is a list of spells that you cannot buy a scroll except in auction house:

Spell Level:

Acid Spray
Electric Loop, Snowball Swarm
Acid Blast, Chain Missiles, Frost Lance
Dimension Door, Wall of Fire, Solid Fog, Symbol of Flame
Cloudkill, Mass Repair Light Damage, Symbol of Pain
Acid Fog, Create Undead, Mass Repair Moderate Damage, Symbol of Fear, Symbol of Persuasion
Delayed Blast Fireball, Otto's Sphere of Dancing, Prismatic Spray, Mass Protection from Elements, Mass Repair Serious Damage, Symbol of Weakness


L1-2, L3, L4-5, and L6-7 scrolls are sold in the marketplace, House P, House J and the portable hole respectively. (Portable hole is a place that you need to use teleport spell/scroll to teleport to) There are a few exception, please see remarks. all level 8+ spells are available only in auction house.

Best advice i ever got was to buy the next levels spells when i can afford it and inscribe them before you can get that level so it will just show what you can't buy.

I do wish there were at least some level 8+ that you could buy and not have to rely on the ah or drops. (not that i'm that level yet, but oh well)

thx. you are right, both Prismatic Ray and Merfolk can be purchased in the portable hole. I didn't realize the Marketplace and House J shop sell less scrolls than the portable hole.

Protection from Elements (the level 5 spell) can be purchased in the Portable Hole. This is a recent change, I love carrying 100 of them on my bard.

I wondered this for a long time, too, when I was new. It is a tavern that is only accessible by teleportation, like from the Teleport spell or the rods you can buy in the DDO Store. There are many vendors there useful to arcane casters.

You can do it yourself. Click on thread tools on the upper right, and click "subscribe to thread." You can access your subscribed threads via the USER CP at the top of the forum. If the thread drops off your CP, you can "view all subscribed threads."

You can buy both Death Auras and some other necrotic based spells from a vendor who appears to someone who's in an undead form, so there's vendors for them, though you might want to pick Lesser Death Aura if you're going to be using undead helpers before you can get Lich or Wraith Form, or you can get a Pale Master friend to buy it for you to scribe.

The AH prices (which I've never bothered looking at for those spells) are unsurprising, it's someone trying to scalp from lv 20 wizards who don't know how to get the spells on their own yet.

well some of us don't know who this vendor is or where? As far as not being a palmaster you can redo your enhancements once every 3 days so if you want theses spells re-enhance to palmaster then switch back in 3 days if you don't like it.

Behind the open palm in House J. Talk to the collector back there when you are in undead form.

How do you become undead? I am only level 16 does it matter.

You can get undead form on a wizard any time after level 6 by using the appropriate enhancements:

although you do need to have the feat Spell Focus: Necromancy.

And no, I'm not getting this confused with Burning Hands. I've got a low-level wizzy that I'm using to run with newbs in the guild, and I'll generally run to a scroll vendor, purchase as many scrolls as I can, and inscribe them so that my picks for spells are limited when I level up.

And if recent memory serves me right, I could have sworn I saw Acid Spray on sale at a vendor store. It stuck out with me because that's one of the spells that I've read you can't get through a vendor.

Granted, this was a few weeks ago, so my memory may be a bit hazy.

I believe this was changed in a recent(ish) update and the information in the OP is somewhat dated. As far as I know, the information at DDO wiki is correct on what can be bought and what can't.

Dannato (summoned by Verisgante if you talk to him in undead form) in house J. Not really a vendor but he provides different options for some of the collectibles.

For clarity, Donnato does not take the same collectibles as Verisgante. He takes the same ones as Yannick Drumdoom, the market Dwarf who loiters near the pawnbrokers.

Best deal for a PM is the 3 Funerary Tokens for 3 Inflict Serious Potions, the tokens are very common and the potions were only recently added to the Store. The only other source I know of for inflict potions.

In relation to the topic, 2 Marks of the Keeper will get you a random scroll or 2 from the Necromancy spell school.
