Ok bracers of armor increase the "armor ac", which doesn't stack from any actual "armor ac" from armor.

Now given that, lets say you have bracers of armor ac +5 and you are wearing a non magical chain shirt. chain shirt grants +4 base armor ac so combined with +5 armor bracers you should be at a total of +1 ac with the bracers as opposed to the armor by itself.

Now my understanding is that "armor enhancement" is a different bonus from "armor ac", so using +5 bracers of armor and say, a +3 chain shirt should still net you the same +1 ac advantage over just the chain shirt by itself, right?

No. The enhancement bonus increases the armor's bonus, and it is not treated as a separate bonus. So a +3 Chain Shirt gives you a +7 Armor bonus, which is better than the +5 Armor bonus from the bracers.
