As my playing time is going to be quite sporadic and often interupted by kids, I need a character that can rock out on its own. I've been messing around with several things and have come to the conclusion that kamas are pretty awesome looking, so i would like to make the good, or at least playable in game.

The question is, how do i go about doing that?

I know I need at least 1 level or rogue to be my own trapsmith. More sneak attack dmg with unbalancing strike seems good too.

how would something along the lines of a halfling rog1//rgr6//mnk13 do? the halfling plus rogue gives 1d6+11 on the sneak attacks. monk freebie feats give most of the pre reqs for tempest. ranger gives the twf feats and +2 dex from enhancements. tempest + lvl 3 of air stance also seems to be the highest speed boost to melee attacks.

another thought was incresing the rogue levels for even higher sneak attacks esp since i dont need the unarmed dmg of mnk levels, but then i dont know if unbalancing strike will have a high enough DC.

Short of dropping the kama idea (since thats the whole point) any advice will be more than welcome.

You know what else looks awesome? Kukris.

Get a kukri!

Yes, they look nifty too. Do they take an exotic feat to use? I forget. Biggest problem I see there is looking at the dang "you are not centered" icon all the time.

This would be a fun build. You would have immunity to poison and disease and have spell resistance as well as improved evasion. Though you could do human mnk11/rng8/rog1 and take the healing amp enhancements (for a total of 60% increase)and get barkskin you would only lose spell resistance, the third tier of the wind stance, 1 ac and some backstab damage. Since you will be soloing, backstab isnt really going to matter a great deal.
Good luck with this, it should be fun.

Unbalancing strike lets you backstab a mob thats looking right at you. I figured I would need the 1D6+11 extra dmg to compensate for the fact that kamas looks great, but have sub average damage stats.

true, the issue i run into more often is healing when I solo on my monk, at least more so than killing mobs; but thats just my 2cp. the healing amp makes it cheaper to heal and increases the healing from fists of light and curse of healing. I wouldn't worry too much about the low damage stat from the kamas. there are plenty of ways around that: stat damage, elemental strikes, and/or elemental weapons. Let us know how it works out for you.

with the boatload of free feats that im picking up, i wonder if i will have enough feats to squeeze in the halfling dragonmark chain.

I'm currently leveling a human monk that is basically the same thing.

Right now he is 7 monk/6 ranger/1 rogue. He is a LOT of fun, and very solo friendly. I am pretty sure i'll be finishing out 12/6/2 with this guy, using the second rogue level to catch up on my rogue skills (search/disable).

Up to this point, I've solo'd 95% of the time, and short-manned the other 5%. I have only ventured into one pug, (madstone) and it gave me the willies. A few days before that awful pug, I solo'd it. Once you can get yourself a pair of wounding kamas, it's on!

The great things about the ranger levels:
1.) Ram's Might
2.) Tempest I
3.) 2x favored enemies (mine are currently giant and undead. Will be switching undead out for Evil Outsider soon)
4.) Able to wand whip yourself without relying on UMD (helpful for early levels before your UMD becomes more substantial)
5.) Able to use level 11 Resist Wands for 30 points of resist

The great things about the rogue levels:
1.) Full UMD Ranks
2.) Full Intimidate Ranks (having a decent midlevel AC would go to waste if nothing was paying attention to me. Negates the sneak damage, but if I can take the aggro from someone squishier like my friend's bard it works out well)
3.) Trap Abilities

I went human for the Healing Amp benefits. Human + Monk = awesome. I have tier 3 of human and tier 2 of monk, and a csw pot will heal me for 30-45 points. The curse of healing cures 1-3 points. I don't generally use wands cause I like the quickness of potions, but wands are a MUCH cheaper alternative. Also the human adaptability stuff is helpful to boost my stats up.

I fully admit to eating lots of tomes on this guy. Is it absolutely necessary to make this a fun build? No. But I certainly enjoy the extra stat points. Unbuffed with wind stance going my stats are
Str:24
Dex:24
Con:20
Int:12
Wis:24
Cha:20

Fort:22
Reflex:26
Will:21

AC:42
HP:288
SP:202

Poor little Niikolai will never be a DPS monster, but that's not what I set out to do. He is FUN and that's why I play the game :)

Enjoy your monk, and I look forward to hearing from you once he gets up in levels!

Edit: I'm also closing in on 1500 favor. So I've done tons of stuff on elite, and most of it at level for XP.
