I've been up and down builds and suggestions, annoying /advice, and everything, learning all I can from the different aspects of things. Trying to get things right from the start, y'know? Now, I've started off as Arcane ranger and fancied it well enough. But now I'm sorta likin' the idea of trap-monkey and the sneak bonuses of rogue. So, I'm coming here, to you lovely people, for input or assistance. It's just another class' build post, but hey, helping others is always wonderful, right? RIGHT?

Anywho.

Stat-wise, I've gotten as follows.
STR - 14, DEX - 18, CON - 10, INT - 14, WIS - 10, and CHA at 8, of course.

I already got the 14 INT to start as rogue down-pat. And the general idea of not needing/wanting full WIS spells. At level 4 of ranger, I'll add the free AP into WIS, to get the level 1 spells available, then maybe 1 more at level 8. Boombadaboom. Now..... The question is: How do I get stat tomes? And would they even COUNT to spell level if I added WIS ones?

To be properly thorough, here’s stat points, too:
Balance - 5, Bluff – 2, Device – 6, Hide – 7, Tumble – 5, UMD – 3, Jump – 2, Listen – 6, Silent – 7, Lock – 8, and Spot – 6. At first I was just going for efficient trap-work. But then I’m debating to have decent combat buffs, such as more Bluff and perhaps Diplomacy? Not really liking the low jump either, but once ranger there’s a buff for it, I guess. Not sure a stable place for UMD, as well. Advice?

(Sorry for not using/knowing the coding for setting up a mini-chart thingeh.)

Level 17 is the last new-ability stage, so I'll get there as ranger. 1 of rogue to start, keeping SP in the rogue skills wanted. But what about the 2 filler? I was thinkin' fighter, since both 2 first levels are free feats, basically. (Unless the fellow readers think the 6.5-10 difference of sneak is really important enough to do 3 as rogue, instead?)

Finally, feat-wise this would mean I'd get 8 feats by level 20, if fighter is chosen. (It took Me awhile to realize that Rangers get BOTH Rapid Shot AND TWF, seeing as I was looking at P&P rules. Yay for internetz.) What's left to decide is feats, and the order I should choose them to be most beneficial as I progress in the game.

Alertness (+2 listen, spot.) Dodge (+1 AC.) Hamstring (Slow enemy.) Sap (Stun, back?) Stun Blow (Stun, front.) Stealthy (+2 hide, silent.) Nimble (+2 dev, lock.) Point Blank (+1 Ranged, 30ft.) Quick draw and then Weapon Finesse and Focus are all the main options I looked into. So I have 11 to choose from. [I’m thinking I can go without one of the stuns, and maybe Hamstring, since I’m more direct combat-orientated anyway.] The question I have HERE is, it takes a feat to get Finesse, but how does it work? Does it then let you choose the weapon-type Finesse effects? Or is that the Focus, a –second- feat?

As a play-style, I’m looking to be a thorough trap-monkey ranger who can get enough damage out of a target before taking it Myself. But also good enough to take some damage, too, maybe use stuns or skills to stop enemies. [Stealth ranged, stun and bash, or stun and more ranged, etc, yet still be efficient in direct TWF combat.]

For those of you who took the time to read this, let alone create a decent response, I thank you. :P Best regards, and have fun out there!

Let's get to the point... what's your planned class split exactly? what's your race?
You want to max out at least UMD/search/disable device. Open locks at least half ranks. Max out Spot if you got the Int for it, otherwise can still drop it. Hide/Move silently mostly useful to have sneak fun solo. Some points into balance (can stop when you reach 15 with buffs), some into jump (can stop when you reach 10 with buff before jump spell). 1 rank in tumble will be enough.

Don't even think of putting stat increase points at L4/8/... into Wis. Big waste. Use wis items and tomes when you get some.
