My friend is looking for a build along theese lines.

race:halfling
class: rogue
path:
The Dark Blade

He wants to be able to scout good, and be able to do some good damage, and assassinate some guys.
Any ideas on a good build that you think would fit his needs post please :)
If you want anymore details on what he wants just ask and I Can tell you.

Well, a pure rogue going with the Assassin PrE seems like the logical choice.

Rogue Assassin I
Usage: Passive
Cost: 4 action points
Spent: 16 action points
Requires All of: Rogue Damage Boost II, Rogue Sneak Attack Training I, Rogue Sneak Attack Accuracy I, Rogue Hide II, Rogue Move Silently II, Rogue Subtle Backstabbing I
Available to Rogue class level 6

Grants a +2 bonus to damage on critical hits (before multipliers), a +2 bonus to Bluff, Hide, and Move Silently skills and Fortitude saves against poison. Also grants the ability to expend a use of Damage Boost to gain a large bonus to confirm critical hits, a bonus to hit while sneak attacking, and the chance to apply poison on sneak attacks for a short period of time. You may possess only one prestige enhancement line at a time for each class.

Rogue Assassin II
Usage: Passive
Cost: 2 action points
Spent: 42 action points
Requires All of: Rogue Sneak Attack Training III, Rogue Sneak Attack Accuracy III, Rogue Assassin I
Available to Rogue class level 12

Grants an additional +2 bonus to damage on critical hits (before multipliers), +2 bonus to Bluff, Hide, and Move Silently skills and Fortitude saves against poison. Also grants the ability to make devestating melee attacks that can kill a living target instantly on a successful sneak attack made from stealth if the target fails a Fortitude save, DC 10 + Rogue Level + Int Modifier.

This enhancement automatically grants the following: Assassinate

Assassinate
Usage: Active
Cost: 0 action points
Performs a melee attack that on a successful sneak attack can kill a living target instantly if the target fails a Fortitude save (DC 10 + Rogue Level + Int Modifier). Even on a successful save, the target takes 10d6 additional damage from the sneak attack. Can only be used while stealthed.

So there are requirements for the enhancements and you should have a really decent Int score to help the assassinate DC.

Build a rogue any way he likes and go after these enahancements and the stealth skills... with high Int he'll have all the skill points he could hope for.

Are you working with 32 point builds or 28?

My basic 28 point setup for a halfling would be

str 14
Dex 16
Con 14
Int 14
Wis 8
Cha 8

To satisfy what you speak of I would probably make him dex based using weapon finesse, put level up points into Dex enhancing combat and sneakiness.

For 32 points you could put the extra 4 points towards whichever aspect you wanted a boost to... +2 Int for more skills and higher Assassinate DC, +2 Dex for more sneaking and enhanced combat through weapon finesse plus boost to reflex save and AC.

Only weak spot here will be your spot skill... with no racial boost to Spot and -1 from 8 Wis, you would want a decent item with +spot.
