In May of this year I posted:
However, it is time to say goodbye. My account runs out on May 19th and I will not be returning. My family and I are starting down a new path in life and I’m starting down a new career path that will take 100% of my time and concentration. We are all very excited about the opportunity and the adventures that are in store for us in the future.
Well as some of you may have noticed I’ve been lurking around the forums and playing a bit here and there, ok playing a lot here and there. :)
So why am I back?
In December of 2008 I took, and passed, the US Border Patrol entrance exam. I then followed that up with six months of hurdles and steps in the hiring process until in June I was admitted to TSU (Training and Scheduling Unit) with a 60 day (expected) wait till I would get my call to report to the academy. This spurred my exit from DDO with no plans of returning to Stormreach and only plans for the future. Well that 60 day (expected) wait has blossomed into what has now been 165 days, with notice recently to expect another 4-6 months before receiving the call.
I tried a few different games during this time away to pass the time since I had made a statement as drastic as “I will not be returning” and didn’t want to seem like so many of the other ‘I’m leaving, I’m back players’. LotRO was ok and a distraction for a month, WoW was boring as always for a week, and I loved Left 4 Dead until I ran out of content and played it all on the top difficulties. But none of it really compared to DDO, so here I am again. Biding my time till “the call” comes and I start my feet down a different path.
Do I regret deleting all of my characters?
Yes and No.
Yes because I enjoyed playing several of them, but even more so no. This time around I have really played the game, not ground the game for what I wanted and left a trail of 25 tangleroots behind me. Simply running each quest 2-3 times (once on each difficulty) and mostly within the quest level I haven’t had to grind anything at all. I’m currently level 16 and didn’t have to hit Gianthold till level 15 I had so much content to play through. Not to mention I really enjoy the new build I put together for this latest trip.
What of the future?
Well that we will see. I won’t be deleting my character when/if I have to leave again, lesson learned and all. :p But I will be in and around Stormreach questing and raiding and maybe even pugging  for the foreseeable future. I continue to wait for ‘the call’, but have also started to look for work outside of the state and am weighing my options of re-enlisting. So only time will tell. But until it does, let’s get to questing.
And I’m looking for Tome Page 2. :D
Hurry up and wait,
Shyvik
