Is it possible to play this game completely free? Or will I eventually have to shell out some money to advance to a certain level? Or are there any perks you just cant do without that require cash?

your free stuff ends at about level 11. If you willing to grind for TP, then you can play the game for free. BUT: it is a grind. A MAJOR GRIND.

There are several guilds floating around this forum telling you how to do it.

HOWEVER: some smart playing and buying only a few adventure packs, you will be able to get to 20 easy. Vale of Twilight and Ruins of Gianthold are recommended.

ultimately it boils down to a time versus money for content...it depends on how much time you want to spend in DDO, compared to giving Turbine a few dollars for their hard work. ;)

Vale of Twilight, golden and platinum sigils purchased with your free TP are enough to advance to level 20.
However you will require either HARDCORE GRIND or some dollars to get any non-essential but still nice-to-have additional content.

Yeah its possible, but what others have posted is right.
Im at level 10 now, havent paid a cent. And i still have quite a bit i can do..but im definately getting to the point where im repeating alot of stuff over and over. Might be enjoyable for some, but i kinda get bored of it and want something new. So up till now its been great. At the moment, in regards to quests/raids..i got enough new stuff to do for maybe a level, then its gonna be more repeat grinding.

I hope this isn't another "I want something for nothing thread"

Yes you can do it but it's hard. A lot of grind and repitition.

An easy way for some free TP is to get a character on each server to 25 favor which nets you 75TP each time. Add in what your "main" character is accumulating and you have some TP to spend on leveling sigils and adventure packs. The only other things that might be worth buying IMO would be the races/classes if you don't want to grind out favor for them.

Personally I have not paid anything yet, but I plan to spend some money on adventure packs so I don't have to grind away. I don't have a whole lot of time to play every week so I don't want to pay a subscription, but I don't want to take a year to grind out enough TP for a few extra packs either. That and the game is a lot of fun so I'll support the devs with a little cash.

The core problem here is the word "possible"

If by "possible" you mean "permitted by game mechanics, given no upper bound on time and effort expended" , then Abso-freaking-lutely it's possible
If you mean "Is it likely that I (or, indeed most people) will be willing to make the requisite level of effort ?", then I'd say not bloody likely.

My 2 cp worth, YMMV
