Tired of rolling solo? Frustrated with rude powergamers and angsty teenagers in your pugs? Looking for a casual group who's just here to have a good time in good company? The Unrepentant is the place for you!
The Unrepentant are a bunch of casual cats who like to keep it simple. No DKP systems, mandatory events, class restrictions or playtime requirements. We're not here to farm end game content or be 1337 PvPers. We're here to relax and have fun. Grab a drink, hop online, and go kick some butt. That's what we're about.
But wait, there's more! We're not just some fly-by-night group of smart-assed misfits. We're part of an entire gaming community of smart-assed misfits! The Unrepentant Gaming community (http://www.unrepentantgaming.com (http://www.unrepentantgaming.org)) is a group of people who believes in one thing: playing games in good company. We have active guilds in half a dozen MMOs and we're all over Steam games such as L4D2, Borderlands, and TF2. (We even have our Minecraft server!) Chances are if you play it, we have people to play it with you.
Sound good? Cool - here's the deal. We only ask two things of you: 1) you have to be over 18, and 2) You need to go drop an application on our forums. Why do you have to put in an app? Well, just go look at our app; if you think answering questions like "Tell us about the most annoying person you've ever met" is too much work, then you definitely aren't the right person for us.

Totally agree with you Dao Jones. It is nice to be in a group that is always there for you. Plus I'm no expert but that's what we have Pip for. For those of you that don't know. Masterpip is the leader of Unrepentants DDO guild. Which, in case you haven't figured it out, is called The Unrepentants. Not only do Dao Jones and Masterpip know DnD like the back of their hand. Pip still plays the Pencil and Paper version every Monday night.

Yes Dao and myself have a good knowladge of D&D. Dao loves the old school D&D and well as said I still play 3.5 every monday and yes even Eberron every once in a while. The Unrepentant is the best gaming comunity I hve ever been part of and Im honored to have them let me run The Unrepentant in DDO. I encourage anyone to come and look at the Unrepentant. We love to kick back and chill while playing great MMOs as well as a ton of other games!

You going on vacation, or are you just not willing to join a guild that hasn't been around for three months?
If it makes you feel any better, our gaming community has been running strong for almost two years. We had enough people interested in DDO that we decided to put a guild together, and maybe pick up some new cool folks to roll with us in this game (and beyond). :)

I have a few characters on Sarlona that I rolled up for Dedicated Teams, but RL issues make it impossible to commit to the same time every week right now. I like to drop in about weekly for an afternoon or two when possible.
I have some lowbies and around 11-12th level. As we were strict team based, definitely not twinked either. Would these fit?
Also, would have to sign up for vent and get a headset to fit in. You do know that my wife will be calling me a geek?
Let me know and will finish up the application. Cheers.

However, such things are best left forgotten. You must merely accept that some of us Have Always Been, and Shall Always Be.

Linked up with the guild a week ago and have been having a blast. There's lowbies and some high chars in the guild right now. High volume of play so lots of these lowbies will be mids shortly and we'll be able to fill out any quest levels.
Great bunch of guys with sense of humor and adventure. Come on out - the worst thing that might happen is you fail the application. I barely squeaked by and had to give at least 3-4 embarassing stories to pass.
Best part is that most of the members so far are new/coming back to DDO and everything is still new. There's lots of MMO experience so they're good players, but still learning the ropes. Come teach us all if you're old school DDO or learn the ropes if new to the game. See you in game.

If you're looking for a relaxed group to hang out with and really experience DDO, whether it be as a new F2P player or a returning VIP, it doesn't get better than this. I've been a member here for about 2 weeks now and count this as the best guild I've been a member of in nearly 6 years of playing MMO's. A great mix of players both new and experienced, an active guild forum, leadership that both listens and responds if there is a concern, and a roster of members (from the guild leader on down) that has a great sense of humor and a desire for everyone to just have a good time. Oh, and best of all? NO DRAMA.
For me, it just doesn't get any better than that.
If you're interested, all you have to do is fill out the app (and have some fun with it).

I started running with these guys in Champions Online, a game that was decimated by lack of end game content.
One of them commented on DDO, which I played for 3 months back when it came out, and convinced some of us to give it another try.
I'd forgotten how entertaining the game was and playing with these guys just makes it that much more fun.
We, myself included, have several F2P players so P2P is not a requirement and you can always find someone willing to help and lend a hand.
Great guys, relaxed environment and friendly to a fault.

Guild run of STK with 4 guildies on Friday night. 2 of the 4 pulled the Ring of Feathers. When was the last time you ever heard of 50% ultra rare pulls on any run?
Not one to begin a conspiracy theory, but I think the Awesomesauce Potions have skewed the loot tables in our guilds favor. On top of the action and great times with The Unrepentant, we also have 50% ultra rare loot pulls. What more can anyone ask for?

In what other guild is it perfectly OK to play single-handed while drinking some amber ale? Been with The U from AoC, WAR, LotRO, and now DDO and it's always been a great community. Nothing like knowing you can jump into whatever game you're playing and be able to group up with laid back cool cats that realize RL > than a game and understand if you can't be on the next day (or several days) or even if you need a month or three off from gaming. If you're looking for a place you can call home away from home and are ready to jump into any number of games with mature (though not always readily apparent! ;-) ) bunch of folks, then this is the place you've been looking for.

Update to our latest exploits (and no, not THAT kind of exploit!):
We had 3 different groups running around knocking out quests the other night, with 19 people on. And that was without any kind of organized start time; that was random log on and bam, 3 groups were rolling.
We're now working on planned group quests just about nightly; and on any given night you will be able to group up with someone your level should you be anywhere from 1 to 10. We do have a few higher level members, but they have been playing their alts to help out us lower leveled folk until we catch up, so if you're 15+ we still have a few that can group with you now, and the rest of us will catch up soon enough.

Was reading a thread about people not wanting to team with Rogues in pugs (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=219652), and the first thing that came to mind was: "man, I'm glad I had a guild coming in to this game".
I understand looking for certain classes when building a group, but the amount of anal retentiveness some people have in this game is redonkulous.
Three cheers for an awesome guild (ours) that *doesn't* get all up in your grill and exclude you based on your class.
Hell, we did the Tears of Somethingsomething quest last night in House P with two Ranger/Rogues, a Rogue, two Bards and a Wizard. There was some dying, we nearly wiped once while fighting the Clay Golem, and it took longer than it needed to, but you know what? IT WAS FUN. Yes, dammit, I had fun - even when I was the only guy left alive, I had three soulstones in my inventory and 25% of my health left, and I was sprinting through mobs and burning heal pots to make it back to the shrine (which was all the way across a map full of respawning monsters).
It's not about doing quests "the best way". It's about having fun with whatever you are doing. Sometimes, that means a perfectly executed dungeon. Sometimes, that means a royal mess with a lot of dying that generates many amusing stories for the future.
Last night, for example, we learned that our newest member has the jumping skills of a midget with a bum knee. (I like ya, Sil, but I'm not picking you for my basketball team. :D)

Quick update on The Unrepentant in DDO. The guild continues to grow with more peeps and characters applying daily. The level progression has made it up to around level 12 for many characters meaning:
a. Despite our approach to challenging runs, we're still progressing meaning that the awesomesauce either makes us indestructible, extremely lucky or we've actually built a core of pretty darn good DDO players.
b. We have a wide variety of guildies in all levels from start up to 12. A collection of F2P and P2P as well. No matter your circumstance, there will always be at least a few online to group up with.
The best thing about the guild is the complete lack of BS. We all have fun and run. What more can you ask from a party?
DaoJones
12-20-2009, 11:39 AM
We're getting our people set up for our first raid (VON). We expect there will be dying, but more importantly, we expect that in the process of all that dying we will have many new stories with which to make fun of people for a good while.
Because really, isn't that what it's about? You may not even remember whether or not you beat a raid on a given day (we'll beat VON, no doubt), but you'll *definitely* remember teasing someone for something hilariously embarrassing they did while on that raid.
Making fun of each other: it's the Unrepentant way! :D

I've been using "Dao Jones" for a decade now. Barring those places where some tool is already using it, It's always me when you see it.

I started using Kiserai a few years ago. "Bekkar" wasn't a name I'd used much before that, though--I made the mistake of using my usual name as my account name for DDO, which meant it wasn't a valid name to use on the forums (couldn't be the same). I just picked a random character name when I registered here, since the only DDO players I knew at the time also knew me IRL and didn't use forums much.
I played as Tain on Argonnessen, iirc. That's a name I have used quite a bit before.

We were running Desert slayer/loot on New Year's Eve in duo. I wish I took a screenshot so I don't get the "prove it" chants, but here goes another example that DDO loot tables favor the U.
On the mephit chest with the Bloodstone, one pull by my guildie he received a Bloodstone and a Con Tome. Once again, not only is the Bloodstone rare but when have you ever heard of pulling one with a tome. Of course, I pulled **** loot so I have to jump back into line for a refresh of Awsomesauce.
I'll be providing some screenshots of our Dragon loot tonight. Expecting some +3 tomes going by our loot luck to date.

Actually, I suspect that all the awesome lot drops I would normally get are re-routed by the game to someone else in the guild. For the same reason I seem to look like an attractive pin cushion to every mob whenever we're running a quest. Simply put, the game hates me. I must be a masochist on some subconscious level…

Bad News - After 4 months and painstaking efforts to keep The U going in DDO, we're going to be shutting this thread down. We have gotten many of our characters to Lvl 20 and have begun recruiting some top level peeps into the guild - the demand is so high, we're almost out of +6 awesomesauce.
Good News - We'll be coming out with the +10 EPIC Awesomesauce thread shortly. After 4 months in DDO and going from lvl 1 28 ptrs to lvl 20's and 32 pt characters (and more with the tomes and such), we felt it was time to post a new thread highlighting some of our top achievements, newest members and Unrepentant updates. The U DDO oldtimer's (started 4 months ago) are level 20 with alts, still having a blast and running the high-end raids (although the new, updated Velah kicked our asses Tuesday - revenge will be sweet on her epic tail).
We're still recruiting in DDO Sarlona for the guild (all levels) and keep the sense of community going via Ventrillo chat. The Unrepentant is a MMO community with branches in a wide variety of MMO's and provide that sense of community in DDO and other games. If you're interested in a guild, check us out at unrepentantgaming.org and watch for our new updated guild post in the next few days.

One and all, new and old, old and young. Veteran and newbie alike...
'Sup.
Seriously, though. Feel free to come check us out. We're a decently sized presence here on Sarlona, with guildie groups running most nights around prime-time, and various level alts available. Feel free to drop a PM my way for sure (as I don't want to speak for the rest of us out of turn). It's very likely that you'll see me in the Wayward Lobster smacking around capped toons picking on lowbies in the PvP arena, or slinging random heals at folks who've just rez'd out of a dungeon.
Don't be afraid to shoot a PM at me if I'm about. I'll happily answer any questions, provide guild links, and give my own brand of (albeit woefully lacking) advice. If I can't answer it, I'll find out for you and get back as soon as I can.

Or perhaps everyone likes this old thread. It seems that our crazy nordic Cerwan (politically correct term of slightly unhinged bardic singing soul) has discovered a method of making some new +6 awesomesauce. It involves potatoes, copper tubing and some open flame in his closet, but more of that in another thread.
If we start breaking out the six packs of +10 sauce on our Saturday night raids, we'll make sure to share some with everyone raiding.

+6 AwesomeSauce Xtra Hot ~ The New Flavor
William_the_Bat

Extra Hot?
No no no, you've got it all wrong...
AweseomeSauce tastes like taking 4 of your buddies on Durk's and getting 3 muckbanes, and showing your disbelieving friends how to do STK part 3 without a rogue, and knocking out running with the devils so you are shroud ready and nearly party wiping in rainbow after the hierling cleric despawns for no reason but still jumping in the teleport trap on the shrine to save your friends and kicking fire elemental butt, running wrath of the flame on Shavarath solo at level 15 just for the heck of it while your guildies tell you on vent you are insane, and planning out your greensteel items (haste clicky gloves and concordant opposition cloak and two min II khopeshes with diferent tier IIIs) and checking your ingredients and realizing you've got enough for the gloves to tier 2 (+10 HP, +50 SP, +2 cha skills, haste clicky) and just need to hop in the shroud and get a tier 1 shard to make it happen.
Oh yes, yesterday was a good day on Ebberon!

I hear you Batman, but to me, the AwesomeSauce is much more like this:
Realizing it's 8 o' clock in the morning, the guildie you've been playing with is nearly falling over dead from lack of sleep (as are yourself) and no matter what, you just can't do anything else.. It's time to call it the night and go to bed..
Then, you happen to look at the experience and you realize you're just 833 away from level 18, new spells, feats and what not.. aww man.. What are you gonna do? You don't even WANT to ask your near-dead guildie for help, as both he and you can barely even see the screen anymore... So you just make a joke about it and prepare to log off, trying not to think about the annoyance of being....just.....there....but....so....far....awa y....
1/100th of a second later, the reply ticks in: "Let's just do one more then..."
Now THAT is how AwesomeSauce tastes..
;)

Join the Unrepentant: More latent homosexuality than any guild in Sarlona!
Wait, did I do that wrong?
William_the_Bat
05-24-2010, 02:09 PM
Are you saying the homosexuality in our guild is more latent (i.e. those in our guild who are homosexual hide it better), or that we have more than our quota of in-the-closet types?
I'm not really sure what that means, but I'm fairly sure we'll be getting a call from some anti-defamation league or another.
And please, awesomesauce is enjoyed by both men and women, without regard to the gender of the guildies in the party, or their preferences, except that we all really like our awesomesauce.
And really, good quests with good friends are what this is all about. We've got enough people to have two guild groups going at once now, maybe when some of our lowbies level up a bit, it'll be all-guild raid time!
And nothing says awesomesauce like a guild raid that includes at least one party wipe and another near wipe recovered from by a combination of luck and a well-prepared Bat saving the day.
Oh come on, it could happen! (grin)

Bump for great justice.
Folks, we have some solid grouping options for new members. Not only do we have a core of 16-20 players looking for people to join on end-game content (they already know it all by heart, the dedicated buggers), but we also have a large group of people either TR'ing, or making alts to run through the low levels. So if your characters are 4-9, 16+, or anywhere inbetween, we have people looking to group with you. ;)
(And fer chrissakes, would *someone* roll a Rogue or Rogue splash for the lowbies? When we were leveling our old mains we had six Rogues and two healers. So I rolled a healer, and now we have ONE Rogue and 3-4 healers...)

Guild renown is fun, and is a visible indication of our awesomesauce.
But we'll never load up with any old annoying playground reject (Student does not work and play well with others) just to up our numbers.
If you are looking for a casual gaming guild that brings the awesomesauce without turning members into numbers you might check out http://www.unrepentantgaming.org/
We do have an application process. We don't care what kind of character you play, or what kind of equipment you have, or how many hours you can raid. All we care about is that our guild members are fun to hang out with. That and your zombie plan. The zombie plan can be a deal-breaker.

Just thought Id stop by and say hello.
Im a returning player to DDO. I played briefly back in 2007, and have just decided to give it a whirl again. My GF and I have just made newb characters and are getting a feel for the game. I have a few old characters such as a level 8 cleric and a 3/2 ranger/thief, GF is fresh out of the gate.
I was wondering if you nutcases have room for a couple of experienced mmo players? Ive pretty much forgotten most about this game and my GF has never played it, but we're excited and enthusiastic to play again, like a pair of eager puppies (potty trained, dont worry).
Sound like a fit to you? Wed like to know more about you too. I'll do the forum thing as well and post there at some point, just wanted to get a feel for your current needs.

We're pretty casual as far as it goes.. we do require you to put in an application our our website at
http://www.unrepentantgaming.org/
Why do you have to put in an application to join an online guild?
We really don't care about what type of character you play, or how powerful they are, or how many hours you can play, or how much you know about DDO (or any other game, it's a multi-gaming community)
We just want people that are going to be fun to hang out with, and who can commit to the grueling and demanding task of filling out an application online.
And make sure you don't skimp on the part about your zombie plan. We take that very seriously.
Also, look us up on the "who" tab of the social panel (the O button). The guild name is "The Unrepentant". If you see someone with "bat" in their name, it's me.

Now I can hang out on the Trapfinder and enjoy a glowing blue vial while beating on a training dummy!

Well... My GF and I spent some time checking out your forums, especially the "rejected apps" section. Wow.. for a guild that spends so much time saying how laid back, casual and fun you are, you guys sure are picky!
We saw a lot of really positive comments about your guild on the DDO forums, and our initial thought was.. COOL. A really relaxed cool guild!
We were going to spend some time posting some great apps ourselves, but after reading your forums for a while and seeing how hard folks worked to get invited, we just thought, why bother? My girlfriend and I are, I believe, mature, smart, funny, skilled mmo players, loyal and great fun to hang out with. But we dont feel like we should have to entertain or amuse you just to get a chance to join, and frankly we have no desire to post a bunch of personal information about lurid, crazy events in our lives just to scratch some jaded itch of yours.
Yeah, your application process, especially the way you dug for really personal information, rubbed us the wrong way.
I feel a little dirty now, and not in a good way.

Sorry to hear you don't like the application process.
For us, the application process helps in several ways.
First, if a person can't articulate well enough to make it through the process, they are probably painful to play with.
Second, if they go all flaming internet rage on us, they probably aren't people we want to hang out with either.
Third, it breaks the ice. After surviving the app process, the new members are more likely to be open and friendly with everyone else who has also survived the process, and vice-versa.
Fourth, after going through all that, we're all just that much more invested in our community.
Fifth, some of the questions make clear some of our expectations, such as asking if you are willing and able to install and use vent for communications.
Generally the people who's apps fail are those who don't try, are unwilling to fix their apps, go flaming internet rage on us, or (rarely) people who's apps are fine but we get in game with them and they are completely obnoxious.
Really, we don't care how embarrassing your embarrassing story is, or even what it revolves around, but we do care that you are willing to share something personal.
It's not about being cool enough to hang out with us, (I assure you, we're just as big of nerds as everyone else playing MMOs) it's about being open and friendly.
It's true that we miss out on some great people who get turned off by the app process... but the end result is a closely-knit group that is friendly, open, and trusting, as well as remarkably low on drama.
These are people I'd love to hang out with over a beer or three and just BS... and the app process gets the ball rolling.

I find it questionable that you were "going" to write these stellar apps and were turned off, it seems far more likely you submitted a mediocre app and did not appreciate the peer review that followed.
That said, our app process works and works well, we don't want people that are unwilling to make an effort to be part of our community, skill and gear don't mean much to us, commitment to the community does.
I do want to thank you for posting, it helps to clearly define for anyone reading the thread what we are looking for an what we aren't.
If you perused the rejected apps and were truly aghast at the harsh treatment of those poor innocent folk, then your sensibilities are not what we are looking for. If you instead recognized a community feeling out and then rejecting someone who was obviously unmotivated to take the effort to join, then maybe you are.
Either way, this is another example of our app process functioning as intended, it prevented you from wasting either our time or yours by pledging to a community that obviously does not share your perspectives.
Have a good life...see you in game.

Yeah. Letting in any knucklehead that wants to be in is a great way to ruin the awesome atmosphere we maintain in The U. As we like to say: the only thing we're *not* casual about is our application process. Keeping the bar high ensures we only get interesting, articulate people, which is exactly what we want.
[We were going to spend some time posting some great apps ourselves, but after reading your forums for a while and seeing how hard folks worked to get invited, we just thought, why bother?Translation: we probably aren't capable of making ourselves sound interesting.

Sorry for the double post, but I just had to add: how big of a toolbag do you have to be to come in to our recruitment thread and post how much you didn't approve of our application process? Do you go to people's houses and tell them how much you don't like their rugs or wall hangings?
I mean, my god. You have to be just about the most trite, petty, narcissistic person on the planet to feel obligated to come all the way back here to the DDO forums and **** in our thread just because YOU, anonymous internet guy, were most likely rejected by our process.
But thank you all the same, because you serve as an excellent learning experience for other potential members.
New members, heed this well: if you are the kind of pathetic drama-twinkie that would take the time and effort to post a diss of a guild's recruitment process just because YOU personally didn't approve, then you are seriously not the kind of person we are interested in running with.

If you can't take constructive criticism then you shouldn't be posting your ad on this forum, rather post it on your guild forum so you get lots of fanbois responses about how your guild is awesome.

So if he'd remembered to post it the first time...or thought to use the edit function (there is an edit function DAO, you pwned wowtard), you wouldn't have made this post?
Not sure how constructive that nebulous criticism was...right up there with saying "the government should do something about health care".
Lucid clear constructive criticism is ALWAYS welcome at the Unrepentant...whiny attacks from an obvious reject of the process aren't.
Posting this to our recruitment thread was the move of a (feminine hygiene product, apparently that other word is censored) or a tool...maybe a (same feminine hygiene product) tool.
Defending it...well not sure why you would defend it, or possibly consider it constructive.

Plus, seriously? This first dude came into our recruitment thread to whine, and then this Hambone dude who has no stake in the discussion at all came in to defend the first dude?
It's just shades of creepy, man. I felt like if I engaged Hamhock he'd be the kind of dude that Google searches where I live, and posts pictures of himself standing outside my apartment while I sleep. (I live on the second floor, so he'll have to settle for pictures from the patio outside my living room.)
Anyway, I figured it was best to just skirt around possibly enticing Lambchop's weird stalker tendencies any further.
And for the record, I realized I could have edited the first post after I had already submitted the second post. And since I can't delete the second post, I'm kinda stuck with my double-posting shame.

I don't see any whiny attack. That "first dude" just told you his opinion on your apps. I see no whining because of rejection as you constantly claim it to be. And I would have probably still made the post, even if that guy of yours hadn't have made the double post. The reason I made it is that the first guy of yours decently replied to that guy that it probbly isn't for him etc. Then, this fanboi comes around and starts tossing insults on him. I mean, why?
And btw, this is public forum, everyone in here has a stake in the discussion. If you don't like it, don't make a thread here.
PS: And yeah, I know where you live, I know what kind of donuts you're into, I know when you get up, what you do the whole day and when you go back to bed, and with whom as well. So think twice before you post a reply!

True enough, this thread is verging into the "get the popcorn" area.
But if nothing else, this latest exchange has inspired HuntGod to coin the phrase "pwned wowtard".
I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of that one... and it's going to be almost as amusing the 437th time as it was the first time.
Incidentally, I've always felt there's an art to -really- advanced trolling. The stealth trolls, the condescending "I'm sorry you are such an idiot" move, the "I'm totally above all this name calling" ploy, there's a lot of ways to go for the true master flamer.
HuntGod shows definite promise, but Dao did appear to be off his game. (grin)

Just a couple thoughts.
First, no I didnt post an application that was rejected. I was being honest when I said that we spent some time reading the applications, especially the ones that were rejected. I was being truthful when I said we were GOING to fill out apps but changed our minds when we saw how harshly some of the applicants were treated.
Listen, I understand some of the negative reaction. Im a stranger who came onto your guild thread and kinda hijacked it briefly, saying some unpleasent things and offending some of you. Some of you probably felt blindsided and were wondering, who the bleep is this joker coming onto OUR thread and saying those things? And why would he bother posting what he did unless he was rejected and just angry?
I get it. The responses are predictable under those circumstances. "Hes a whiner." "Hes a troll." "You gotta be petty and narcissistic." The instinctive reaction is to belittle the person, tear down thier credibility to bolster your own argument. Although to be fair, the very first response from your founder was none of that, it was decent and thought out. Thanks for that. Some of the other replies, however, just seemed to solidify our initial perception of your guild, unfortunately.
But I still stand by what I said. We really were excited by what we read about your guild, and motivated enough to carefully read your forums. We are picky about what guilds we join in games, simply because when we join, we are extremely loyal and involved, we participate and take the responsibility seriously.
I guess thats why I was so weirded out by some of the things we saw and read on the forums. For example, on one of the rejected application threads, one of your guildies posted a picture of guys asleep at a table to emphasize just how bored they were with the application. ***? Really? Was that necessary? It seemed like a perfect example of exactly the kind of mentality we DONT look for in a guild. Who would want to be a part of a community that ridicules those who dont make the grade? As my GF observed, feels more like a frat then anything else. Which may be a compliment or an insult, depending on your outlook.
I guess what I would hope is that you step out of the fraternity bubble for a sec and maybe think about how you treat others. Im sure theres some great people in your guild, but we just didnt see much of them on the forums. But in any case, we arent here to flame or tear down your guild, we just saw some stuff that really bothered us and felt a need to say something about it.
We'll continue our search for a great guild to join, and good luck to you in your travels!

I just can't resist a good troll...sigh.
Just a couple thoughts.

I was being truthful when I said we were GOING to fill out apps but changed our minds when we saw how harshly some of the applicants were treated.
You can make that assertion all you like, coming to our recruitment thread is petty, no other way to really characterize it. In general, that type of pettiness is illicited by rejection, so my assertion is, you did apply and were rejected. I believe my assertion is more consistent with the situation than yours. I also love the repeated need to stress that you have a girlfriend...
I didn't find anything you posted unpleasant or offensive, it was 100% accurate, what I found irritating, and continue to be bugged by, is the implication that there is something faulty in our app process and that we are not the guild we present ourselves to be, which is completely inaccurate. I am honestly amazed we don't have more rejected players doing this...so no I was not blindsided.
Why would you bother posting to our recruitment thread, other than an attempt to dissuade people from taking the next step and looking at our forums to make their own determination...seems petty to me.
I get it. The responses are predictable under those circumstances. "Hes a whiner." "Hes a troll." "You gotta be petty and narcissistic." Of course the responses are predictable, doesn't mean they are not accurate. You are a whiner and a troll, the post itself is petty, I wouldn't call you narcissistic...
Accurately identifying the nature or reasons behind a post does indeed bolster the strength of the opposing argument, that's how a debate or argument works. There was no actual factual content in your post to be disputed, so the only area of debate was the reason you posted it.
Dao's rants are usually more cogent and entertaining, for that I do apologize, I think he's getting old.
But I still stand by what I said. We really were excited by what we read about your guild, and motivated enough to carefully read your forums. We are picky about what guilds we join in games, simply because when we join, we are extremely loyal and involved, we participate and take the responsibility seriously.
We are picky about who we take, you are picky about who you join...seems to me that's the way it should be. Again coming to our thread and criticizing our process is petty, though you of course have every right to do so...
I guess thats why I was so weirded out by some of the things we saw and read on the forums. For example, on one of the rejected application threads, one of your guildies posted a picture of guys asleep at a table to emphasize just how bored they were with the application. ***? Really? A post of a sleeping dude, seems a humorous and on point way of prodding the applicant that maybe their app is boring...do you want to hang out with boring people? I don't...
If that is the kind of behavior you AREN'T looking for in a guild, then great, the process worked, because people that are so thin skinned to find that offensive are not folk I want to deal with on a daily basis.
In the REJECTED apps where you saw this, what was the reaction of the applicant? Did they whine, or nerdrage, or did they say "oh, well here is something interesting about me"...if they did the first two they belong in the REJECTED section, if they did the third then they probably weren't.
If that is the most egregious abuse you saw in our rejected apps, you didn't look very hard...
Our current model has grown our community over the last two years to participating in around a dozen games with an active membership off around 400+ people...and with a very few exception I'd have a drink with most all of them, which is pretty darn amazing.
You are most definitely here to belittle our apping process and dissuade people from checking out our forums. If you had been interested in actually addressing our app process (which is a pretty darn presumptuous thing to do) you would have done it on our forums and not in this public venue.
We'll continue our search for a great guild to join, and good luck to you in your travels!
Do PETA, Greenpeace or the NAACP have a guild? You might like those better, they are more considerate of peoples feelings and pretty much take anyone...

I'm not sure how you don't characterize his OP as a whine...also his assertion is that he wasn't rejected, mine is that he was...not really sure how you prove or disprove that. I believe his behavior is far more consistent with a jilted applicant that a "looking out for the community" individual.
And I would have probably still made the post, even if that guy of yours hadn't have made the double post. And btw, this is public forum, everyone in here has a stake in the discussion. If you don't like it, don't make a thread here.
I've never understood people falling back on this, it is a public forum, not sure how that precludes us from disputing someone who comes to the thread with an obvious attempt to besmirch our community and dissuade people from visiting our forums. It is public, if you come here an post things that we take umbrage at, by the same token we will respond...it being public doesn't mean you can come here criticize us and our process then not be held accountable for it...

It's good to see you had an interest in the community and even went to the website for a little research. As you've seen by the posts, some of The U are very passionate about the group. Posts such as yours are brought back to the community and discussed to see if we need to make changes. Had you carried through with the application and been approved, you would have seen the community website in larger detail. I think you would have been impressed once you got in.
Our application gets rewritten every 3-4 months but the main intent has always been to maintain our credo of openness, fun and community. What does a make believe zombie survival plan have to do with DDO? Your most embarassing story you're willing to share? Absolutely nothing. But not having the imagination or energy to complete it? It tends to show that the applicant is not a good fit for our group.
This is DDO and we're recruiting DDO players, but the end goal is to recruit good natured people into the community. We play, have fun, make new friends and travel across multiple MMO genres. We hope that every applicant turns out to be a future leader of the new XYZ MMO Branch. That's why we have the application - we get to know every applicant a bit before they get into the community - our guild in DDO is just a sub of this. As the others put a bit more passionately, thanks for your interest.
We have always been open to input from applicants, regardless good or bad. We provide access to a limited portion of the site for applicants specifically for this reason - you could've posted there and called us all kinds of narcissistic names that get filtered here. You might have even changed the community for the better.
But coming into the open forum to vent about an app process was offside. Regardless of what guild you find in DDO, coming to the DDO forums to vent about guild policy or decision won't help your cause. If you need any other info, feel free to PM me or any other Unrepentant DDO officers to discuss. Back to our previously scheduled recruiting thread.

For the curious bystanders who wonder what "extremely personal information" we're rudely demanding of our applicants, I shall repeat here the questions that we ask of applicants that might verge into the "personal":
1. Tell us the story of the dumbest, funniest or most embarrassing thing you've ever done
One of the current applicants told us about how he got the Japanese staff at the school where he teaches English (in Japan, natch) to sing "I'm a Little Tea Pot". No one asked for more, because that's a great story. Wow! Such painfully personal information! Its like we're dating his mother!
2. What is your Zombie Plan?
Unless your zombie plan involves deeply personal moments with your family and loved ones, I think you're in the clear here.
3. Tell us something cool about yourself that has nothing to do with gaming
Note how open this question is! One guy makes balloon art, and posted pictures. He actually made a balloon art model of our mascot Uey. He was immediately approved and made a member. All this question requires is that you prove to us that there's something to you beyond just "gaming gaming gaming"; if I'm sitting in vent with you, and ALL you can talk about is the game we're playing, I'm going to get super bored of you really fast. We wish to recruit people with a more diverse discussion palate, as it were.
4. If you were us, why would you vote you into The U?
We added this in to weed out the slackers who submitted crappy apps.
We then ask your favorite music, book, movie, and non-MMO game.
So yeah, Menethenes, I did find your curious post here rather petty, because in fact we ask ZERO personal information about applicants beyond the kind of information you'd share at a party with strangers. We don't ask your exact age (just "over 18?"), we don't ask if you have a family or kids; hell - we don't even ask your gender! Many of us are family types, or work in sensitive arenas (business, military, public sector), so we understand that not everyone wants to share profound personal information about themselves, and we don't ask it.
End of the day, here's exactly what happened: you misunderstood our application, our recruitment process, and our community. That's fine - we don't need to win over everyone. But the *minute* you came here and felt the need to **** on us publicly - which is *exactly* what you did when you came here to our recruitment thread and decided to bash us - you indicated how woefully ignorant you are about us, and truthfully how much you do not belong in our community. What you did here was childish and petty of the highest order. Had you simply PM'd one of us to express your concerns we could have allayed or addressed them. Instead, you planted this cheap drama in our thread that all future applicants will now read.
I suppose we should thank you, as I said before. People may read your trite complaints and feel uncomfortable applying. That's good for us, because people with thin skins and overinflated opinions about themselves* are not welcome in The U.
To Hambone: the ability to comment on matters of which you are ignorant of and are not your concern is definitely yours, but I might suggest that simply being able to do something is not a compelling argument that you should do that thing.
FYI: balloon art representation of our mascot Uey: http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af61/dbpoe/DSC02208.jpg

I am a new member of The Unrepentant and I wanted to toss my 2 cents into the mix. Like many, my interest was grabbed instantly by how the guild was advertised. The members had a flair about them, and I know I will probably be thrashed for saying that, seemed very different and mostly like a fun bunch of people. I work full time, have a family and other responsibilities in my life and want to be around fun people in my free time. When I do play, I don't want to be around people who take themselves and everything else too seriously.
Anyway, I put in my initial application. Admittedly, it was a bit unnerving, for they do analyze, criticize and prod you for more details during the process. However, I decided to see it through, and I realized they were trying to find out if I was a fit for them. Honestly, I can appreciate them taking interest and taking the time to screen their members. I do not want to be part of a group that just lets anyone in and is desperate for members. The people that do make it through the application process are definitely people you will enjoy playing with. So I have to say their application process works.
So far I have grouped with many of them, they are helpful, open minded and fun to be around. I am proud to be a member.
Ultimately, if you are unwilling to give a little, you won't get very far. A guild is a two way street. It is not only about what a guild can offer you, but what you are willing to contribute to it. If you expect to offer nothing and reap the benefits, you will be disappointed.
Anyway, if you aren't asleep by now... feel free to check us out if interested!

I figured it was just because Chef was back in town. I'm not sure I want that hours of practice buff anymore.
I've been running with the U for the better part of a year now and the application was the only thing ever asked of me. The members have been great in every game I've played since joining, and I think it's all due to the app. In DDO specifically, folks are easy going, always willing to answer questions, and there's usually a group or two going at some level range at just about any time of day, wherever you are. It's also nice to know that if DDO gets old, there's some U to group with in just about any other game.
Full disclosure, Dao: I am, in fact, dating his mother.

Well, let's just say we expect HalfUeys to be a possible racial choice in a future update. +2 Cha, +2 Con, -2 Wis, -2 Dex. Specials include a -10 to Spot skill for the purpose of detecting traps, and immunity to mind control effects.

But back to the awesomesauce!
I think I got a pack of +7 epic awesomesauce the other day.. but Tesseus showed up and drank it all. Then Huntgod took the bottles. And now all I have is a bent bottlecap and the feeling that if i'd gotten a taste, it would have been the bestest awesomesauce ever!

With all the changes that have gone on since I took a break back in... June? I'm rather looking forward to getting back into the game in a week or two. Plus, we've picked up a whole slew of new guildies I haven't even had a chance to harangue yet!
Sooner or later, we're going to have all the cool people on the server in our guild. So you might as well just apply now, and get in before we start charging*.

The Unrepentant is the DDO guild branch of the Unrepentant Gaming (http://www.unrepentantgaming.org/forum/index.php) community. Our current members' ages range from 18 to sexagenarian, though we would not discriminate against supercentenarians who could hang with the younger rapscallions. We are a global guild whose members span the time zones and characters span the level ranges. We even admit folks with funny accents (e.g. Canadians).
Aspirants are required to submit an application (http://www.unrepentantgaming.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2271) with zombie plan and survive an initial forum hazing ritual. Survivors find the guild and community to be worth their time.
