View Full Version : Directx error 105 when loading

Yesterday I started getting a directx error when I tried loading the game. We've had no problems with it for over a month and yesterday morning it worked. Last night it didn't. Nothing changed except we logged out and back in later and now it tells us: Could not initialize Direct 3D. Please ensure that DirectX9.0c [Dec 2005] or higher is installed [105].

It tells us this after the servers load and then I get a black screen and that message.
I checked DXDIAG and it says that directx 10 is installed and that it's enabled and that there are no problems. Other games work and everything else is running fine.
I tried downloading Directx9.0 Redistributable as was suggested to someone else in another thread. This isn't doing anything and I have no idea what else to try.

I use Windows Vista and this pc doesn't support Directx 10 currently.

****I fixed this. Apparently there was an application that was running in the background that was using the directx even though I'd closed it. When I closed it with watchdog it fixed DDO. Thanks anyway :) ****

hey what program was running in the background that you had to close?

It was another game that was running. When I opened Windows Task Manager and saw that it was still running I closed it. After that it started running DDO again and I haven't had any problems with it since. If you're having problems try rebooting. If that doesn't work see if there are any games that the computer thinks is still running in the background.

You haven't really said what your problem is >.> All you did was ask me what program I had to close. You need computer information and more details about what's wrong. At least from my experience with tech forums.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I played this morning and then when I tried to play again this evening I began to get this error message and NOTHING has been changed on my computer. I have directx 11 running under Win7. I even ran the DirecX installer to see if it would update anything and I still get the error.

I got a solution now! Finally!
Okay, for other people,
go to My Documents > Dungeons And Dragons Online
then locate the text file UserPreferences.ini (or something like that) and rename it , for example oldUserPreferences.ini .
Then launch the game.
Look at the top right corner of the window.
You will see buttons such as closing the window, minimizing it and stuff.
The very first one, the one with only one arrow on it, click on it.
Under the Repair tab, click the Reset Game Display Settings.
Then try logging in.
This worked perfectly. If it persists, try doing it every time you log in. If it still persists, go email Turbine. I got it from emailing them.
Thanks for everyone who tried to help!

PS.
I think this error happened because of changing the resolution of the game during gameplay. :)

PS.
I think this error happened because of changing the resolution of the game during gameplay. :)

Sweet!! Thanks for the tip! I got it working again and I was actually messing with the resolution in game yesterday so that couold explain it.

Now if I can only find a way to do the exact same thing for The Witcher! That wont load now either. :(

I continue to have the same problem even after I reset my default display settings. Here is the error message:

Could not initialize Direct 3D. Please ensure that DirectX9.0c [Dec 2005] or higher is installed [105]

I am currently running DirectX9.0c. I opened DXDIAG and ran a DirectX Diagnostic Tool with these results.

No problems found.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 39 (SetDisplayMode to 640x480x16): HRESULT = 0x80004001 (Not implemented)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x88760827 (error code)

Any Advice?

Perhaps start a new thread describing the problem, and posting your DXDiag report?

In the meantime, make sure to grab this DX update:
