Just for fun, I wanted a mage that takes advantage of the Warforged damage reduction and combat tactics so I created this build.

Presenting the Tactical Nuke! With self buffs he is somewhat of a Battle Wizard, perhaps a bit sturdier than most. Stuns and blindness = autocrit so I plan to use a Maul for 3x crit damage.

Interesting idea. One comment I could make is that blindness does not equal auto-crit. Hold person does, stunning blow from a fighter does, I am not sure about the power word stun and symbol of stunning. I say this because the stun from either sound burst or electric loop do not grant auto-crits. Just something to keep in mind. Blindness grants -4 to attack and auto sneak attacks for rouges.

Oh, my bad then. I thought it did from reading about how radiance gives auto sneak attacks, but it was the crippling strike that followed, brining strength to 0, that granted the auto crits. That might help if there is a rogue in the party tho. The trip feat should work better with this guy too, so that might be useful.

If nothing else, he should be a bit more effective with the stunning blow and DC bonuses from fighter enhancements and WF enhancement. The DR may help a bit with surviveablity, expecially when he gets stoneskin. At least he has more strength and constition than most wizards and with self buffs can improve those stats by 4 more each (bullls strength, bears endurance, cat's grace too for dex). He will still have a wide selection of spells since he is mostly wizard, and can change spells when he needs to per situation if there is a shrine near by. Oh, and self repair is nice too!

I agree this may not be a build for most people as this makes a wizard that can melee at lower levels anyway. I may be giving up some end game power, but it will make him more playable to get to end game. This is not a power gamer build or even one that I recommend to anyone else, but I am enjoying it *a lot* so far. The strength gives me a bit more damage. the 15 dex becomes 16 with the +1 tome of supreme ability (+1 to all stats) I used and gives me +3 to AC, helps reflex saves without having to take a feat for insightful reflexes as well.

True, most wizards don't melee, but this one at least CAN do so for a while.

The stat buffs come in very handy at the lower levels to activate runes and such, do more damage, etc. I will eventually get +6 stat items, but that is a long way down the road, and then it will only free up spell slots for other lvl 2 spells instead.

If I made him the way you suggest, he would be like all the other cookie cutter wizards, more powerful at end game sure, but I believe my build will be more fun and more surviveable. I love being able to smack down stuff when I choose. I can always switch to caster mode with the change of a few spells memorized to play the more traditional wizard role but this build gives me some diversity, and I am loving it so far.

Well, it seems the Stunning blow and trip are not as beneficial as I thought, so I swapped a couple feats to go TWF instead and gain more spell damage with enhancements instead. I get a lot of sceptors as quest rewards, and wands. But I can always use other weapons too with this build now. TWF should give me better DPS overall too, I think.
