If I went VIP, gaining the ability to play Monks, Favored Souls, Warforged and Drow, and I made a Warforged Monk, or even a Human Monk, and several months later, I canceled VIP, would I now not have access to play the Monk character I had been working on?

Going VIP doesnt give you favored souls they have to buy or earn them with favor same with drow, and yes if you made a monk while VIP and then went back to free play you would loose access to the monk you had been playing

According to the DDO Unlimited Manual VIP play does get Favored Soul and Drow.
Just looking at things trying to determine what I want to do. I am considering either paying for 3300 Turbine Points, for 38.99 or going VIP and buying 1550 Turbine Points for 14.99+19.50=34.49. Basic reason is I want to have Veteran Status and 32 point buy. Which will be around 2500. I have only 200 now, so I will be brought to 2750 or so with the second option, and I'll be able to try out at least the monk and some other Adventure Packs and places I can't currently go now. Though, I won't be able to buy much more right away. However, if I stick around for another month, I will have another 1000 TPs and that would put the total over the first option. Though it will now cost more mnot less. Guess with the second option, I will at least get to try out Monk for a while.

monk is a purchase class. so if you go vip and get to play monk just save 795 points to buy when you drop vip.
Me I just bought monk right away as a F2Per. when I heard DDO was going free i made a trial account and immediately made a monk my old favorite pnp class. One that I have been trying to recreate in other F2P MMOs (and failed miserably)
You won't be disappointed. now I'm debating buying 32point build to compliment my monk. 28 is good enough for now still having tons of fun.
that and I'm just about 400 favor for drow so I'll play with one of them before I buy 32.

Fav soul is not free to VIPs unless you get 2500 favor. So it can be free but you ain't gonna get it anytime soon...unless you buy. Drow too...except you need 400 favor...that is attainable.
32 monks are so worth it.

If you made a WF monk as a VIP and then went back to f2p you would have to buy both the WF race and the monk class to continue playing that character, yes.
Even VIPs have to buy FVS unless they have enough favor for it, so whatever you read that says otherwise is incorrect.

Makes you wonder why both Monk and warforged are not unlockable by favor. I mean everything else is. Why shouldnt they be unlockable as well. Make them somewhere between drow and veteran status for WF and between Vet status and 32 points for monk. Makes sense right?
Oops did I just point out the elephant in the room?

I've got a 28-point PD monk right now at level 7. If he dies, I'm definitely buying 32-point builds before I reroll. Trying to squeeze a decent monk out of 28-points is hard.
