View Full Version : Anon a reason to get turned down?

I was turned down joining a group the other day. I've always run a couple characters in particular anon so they don't get tells for parties. They never were turned down for quests. Maybe once in a great while but not for quality of play issues.
I read a post not too long ago about guild membership being an issue lately for some which is nothing new. I have sometimes picked one group or player over another if I can expect better play from a guild I know.
But, there are some classes that don't have much trouble finding a group, and I was turned down. Maybe it was just a bad day. Maybe running Anon is no good anymore? Is guild affilition a big deal now?
Is being a member of a small guild of very good players who like to pug with many guilds a drawback? Personally, being able to get into groups with many different guilds has always worked well for me. No guild to guild hate politics, which happens but not often and I run anon in the forums for the same reason. No reason to inadvertently upset someone and get banned by some group. Personal differences are put aside as far as I am concerned when the time comes to play the game. I don't think I'm alone there. I have no difficulty playing and having a good time with someone I might not click with or rub the wrong way other times.

The reason you are now getting declined for groups while are anon is because when you hit someone's lfm, all it says is "Anonymous". Before Mod 9 it would say who was wanting to join and the party leader could make an informed decision usually by the name and/or guild.
Try unchecking "Anon" before hitting an lfm, you will more than likely not be turned down as often, if at all.

or send a tell so they atleast know your name when they see that anon sticker in the LFM window. If you've been around the block long that should b enough.

Although I have a few on anon it was changed recently so the leader of the lfm didn't know who they are getting in the group due to the person being anon. I can say there are a few players out there I would highly prefer not to have in my party and woulnd't know one way or another if the anon person applying was one of those I wouldn't normally invite.

I have (2) thoughts on this subject.
1st thought is, if I cant right click and send you and invite, Im not going to bother.
2nd thought, If you cant tell me who you are, then Im not going to bother accepting you.
It is hard enough already dealing with being specific in a LFG when I put one up. " levels 10-13 for "XXXX run" This is Pay to play content, and specific needs listed for classes."
Then you get 12 tells for "if it is ftp I will come!" "Can my lv 5 barb come?" "invite requests from a lv 12 rogue, when needed classes checked are cleric/FS/Sorc and Wizard.
Toss in your 'Annon' requests to join group, you get discarded like the rest.
There is no reason to run around Annon, I have sorc/rogue/cleric/bard classes all 10-20 in level. It doesnt take much to ignore random tells. If the person is polite, I will always respond.
Just my 2 cents

1. Correct. IMO, if you like joining groups, and hitting up lfms, then Anon. is not a good idea. Let those party leaders know who you are.
2. Guild affiliation: There will be times that a guild can bring you up or put you down. It just happens. Just remember that you are a part of the guild, and if you do your best to keep them in good standing, then they will be. If your guild name has hamstrung you from joining groups, maybe it is time to change tags.
3. Nope. I pug out A LOT. Been in the same guild for 3 years. We have guild activites here and there, but I quest outside the guild plenty. Never have a problem. Again, if this is about joining groups, just stick to doing your thing. If players on the server like you, then keep it up. Imo, running quests with many guilds is a good thing, if they like you, but if you are not liked, then you are simply spreading the knowledge to more players that you need to be avoided. But if you are a good players, nice, ect ect ect....Then none to worry.

I had no idea this anon thing was going on. I took a little time off and haven't put up an lfm of my own since I've been back. I would be leary of inviting someone into a group too knowing now the way the system works. There is not a reason I can think of to expect an invite from someone without giving my name and guild. That's just common courtesy I think. It's one thing to turn off the tells from players I don't know but quite another to expect to get into a raid as some kind of wildcard.

Major suckage abounds these days. About the third time I accepted an anon Caster who ended up with 150 HPs and no ability to move, think and mash buttons at the same time, I decided accepting anons was a bad idea.
I only do so if;
a) I'm desparate for a healer or bard
b) I'm feeling generous and could finish the quest/raid with a lvl 2 warforged Rogue/Monk in that last slot.
Recommendation:
1) If you are from a known guild then turn off anon.
2) If you don't suck then turn off anon.
3) If you are guildless then turn on anon.
4) If you suck and are a healer or bard then turn on anon.
5) If you suck as other classes then turn off anon and hope the leader appreciates you having ballz enough to suck yet turn off anon.

My clerics and Bards tend to stay ANON as a default. No issues with guild runs or things like that. IF, I am going to join LFM's I turn it off. Since I have a personal policy of not joining ANY group that has someone ANON in its party makeup, it would be rather hypocritical of myself to not uphold that same standard.
If forming a group, I WILL NOT ACCEPT anyone who is ANON. If you won't let me know who you are, I don't need you.
Much of this dynamic was well discussed when they made the changes to how ANON functions this past year, and the outcomes were commonly predicted.

:D i was going to say that. :D I pug sometimes alot and sometimes not. Sometimes more than most of my fellow guildies from time to time, but i have a rep around the server and it is all build of my own. Some people love me :D and some dont *if they dont they dont tell me* :D I know when i have an anno person hit my lfm if i have time i send them a tell asking who they are because sometimes it could be someone i dont want to run with or someone i know i will need a 2nd person of the same class to keep up with the party. Not saying in any way it is you or your playing style but that is what comes to my mind when i see an anno person hit my lfm.

Just accept if it's the class you want and kick if it's not a person you want.
I leave my cleric anon and seek out parties listed as "no anon" just to make them violate their own rules.

IMHO, if somebody is hiding behind Annon and is of a non-healing class, then yes - it is perfectly reasonable to not accept them into a group. Why should I group with you if you don't want to tell me who you are up front?

Too many "unknowns" out there to accept anonymous...

If someone hits an LFM of mine and is Anon...and they don't send a tell to let me know who they are within 5 seconds...auto decline :)

To avoid issues I actually select the quest from the drop down menu. This will stop all the players who do not have access to the quest from clicking join.
I also put this disclamer in the LFM: "If anon send a tell"
Reaver If anon send tell <Level range><Quest name><Quest Difficulty>
This does not stop people who have access to the quest and cant.

ty, I found this thread

What a mess.
1. Would be nice once in awhile for the devs to explain why they do some things lol just so we don't have to rack our brains trying to figure out why they did it.
2. I'm not joining any group anon whether I am on a cleric or not.
