View Full Version : Are Int tomes going to function retroactively now?

Since Turbine has not only removed the possibility of reading an Int tome at level 1 to increase skill points as we level, but also has retroactively altered already read tomes to space their bonuses out over our level progression, and are introducing respec systems which impact the way existing tomes are applied, will the bonus granted from an Int tome grant retroactive skill points?
If we read that +2 Int tome at level 7, will we gain an additional 10 points to spend somehow (4 x at level 1, then 1/lvl for 2-7)?
Also, if they are not retroactive, at what point during reincarnation do the bonuses get applied? That is, if a character who has read a +1 Int tome reincarnates, does he get an extra skill point at level 3 (tome applied before skills are selected), or level 4 (tome applies after skills are selected)?

At this time skill points will not be applied retroactively, and the reincarnation types that keep tomes (lesser and greater) will have them apply at the minimum level of the tome (level 3 for +1, 7 for +2, 11 for +3).

I know that they apply at the minimum levels (3, 7, 11, etc...), but at what point in that level do they apply? Before skills and feats are purchased, or after?

We've done some more investigation, and here's what we're going to do:
Currently on the servers, inherent bonus suppression is applying to all characters. If you ate a no-minimum-level tome two years ago or today and are under the current minimum levels for the bonuses, the inherent bonuses that the tome applied being clamped. (+1 for levels 3-6, +2 for levels 7-10, +3 for levels 11-14, +4 for levels 15-18, and technically +5 for levels 19-20.)
We're going to go implement what was our original plan.
If you ate a no-ML tome (or eat one over the next few days), on patch day the entire bonus will express itself fully, regardless of your character's level. On patch day, any leftover old tomes will be replaced with new tomes (that possess standard minimum levels).
You have a little bit of time to voraciously consume any no-ML tomes you might possess before they're replaced. They'll temporarily be suppressed, but they'll express their full bonuses on patch day. (If you ate a no-ML Intelligence tome, you may want to hold off on leveling until after patch day to get the full bonus.)
When you lesser or greater reincarnate a character, all tomes will be applied using the rules that new tomes follow. (+1 at level 3, +2 at level 7, +3 at level 11, +4 at level 14, +5 at level 19.)
So if you are hoping to get the most benefit, create your character now, and eat your tomes, and on patch day(rumored to be days away), then you can start levelling and you will have the full effect of the tome applied at lvl 1. Any tomes you do not eat will end up being turned into ml type tomes on patch day

Currently on live, they're applied before selecting skills. I had a character that had used a full set of +2 Tomes and reached level 5 before update 1. Afterwards he only had 9 Int instead of 10, so when gaining level 6 I had one less skill point. The other +1 was applied before selecting skills @ level 7, so I only lost the one skill point at level 6.
