Had a go with Quickfire and Fraps and couldnt get either to 'activate' in game (or in windowed mode)

I am running with the DX10 drivers on Vista 32bit, and having looked at the forums of xfire it appears they dont support DX10. Has anyone managed to find a half-decent way of recording the game?

I'm not planning on recording entire missions but my friends and I are having such a ball we'd love to have some vids of the fun :)

Any ideas or apps warmly welcomed. I realise DX9 is an option, but I'd rather not if possible!

Hmmm... interesting, I would have assumed both xfire and fraps would have worked.
I know fraps v2.9 added more support for Vista and DX10, are using an older version?

Other then that, I don't have a solution for you:
like you said, you could always run it in DX9 when you want to record.

I use Fraps to record in game video all the time. I use Vista 64 and DX 10 with no problems. I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling Fraps. All I do to get it to work is launch Fraps, then launch DDO.
